Variety of geranium plant named ‘Pacamla’
A new and distinct early flowering zonal geranium plant with red-purple colored petals with a lighter colored eye, compact and vigorous growth and strong peduncles.
Pelargonium×hortorun.
VARIETAL DENOMINATION‘Pacamla’.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of Pelargonium×hortorum known by the varietal name ‘Pacamla’. The new variety was discovered in a selected breeding program in Dresden, Germany. The new variety is the result of a cross between two unnamed and unpatented selections from a collection of 12-15 unnamed proprietary breeding plants. The flower color and habit of the new variety are similar to its parents but with different color intensity and flower shape. The new variety was first asexually reproduced in January 1999 by cuttings in Dresden, Germany. The new variety has been trial and field tested in Dresden and has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics and remain true to type through successive propagations.
The cultivar, when propagated in January and potted in February in a greenhouse in Dresden, Germany is ready for outdoor planting in May.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSThe accompanying photographic drawing illustrates the new variety, with the color being as nearly true as is possible with color illustrations of this type.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANTThe following detailed description sets forth the characteristics of the new cultivar. The data which defines these characteristics were collected by asexual reproductions by cuttings carried out in Dresden, Germany of a 9 month old potted plant in a 12 cm container. The color readings were taken on a plant outdoors in the shade. Color references are primarily to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London.
