Genus and species: Osteospermum ecklonis Norl.
Variety denomination: ‘KLEOE14243’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANTThe present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Osteospermum, botanically known as Osteospermum ecklonis, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEOE14243’. ‘KLEOE14243’ originated from a controlled cross conducted in summer 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya between the proprietary female Osteospermum variety ‘OE-2009-0827’ (unpatented), and the proprietary male Osteospermum variety ‘OE-2000-BA01’ (unpatented).
The seeds from the cross were sown and plants were grown in a greenhouse for evaluation, where an individual plant designated ‘KLEOE14243’ was selected from the group of plants in April 2011. In May 2011, ‘KLEOE14243’ was first vegetatively propagated by terminal vegetative cuttings. ‘KLEOE14243’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via terminal tip vegetative cuttings.
SUMMARYThe following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.
-
- 1. Yellow ray florets; and
- 2. A semi-upright growth habit.
This new Osteospermum plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows the plant's overall plant habit including form, foliage, and flowers. The photograph is of a four-month-old plant grown outdoors in Stuttgart, Germany in August 2012.
The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEOE14243’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on five-month-old plants grown in a greenhouse in Stuttgart, Germany in March 2015 using CCC 0.1% and 0.2% for growth regulation and artificial light, SONT and LED for 16 hours in alternation.
