Description

Latin name of the genus and species: Hoya ilagiorum.

Variety denomination: ‘JAD037’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The new cultivar is a spontaneous whole plant mutation. The new variety was discovered by the inventors in an existing population of unpatented, unnamed Hoya ilagiorum plants in May 2020 at a nursery in Chuzhou, China.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘JAD037’ was first performed in Chuzhou, China by terminal vegetative cuttings in 2021. Subsequent asexual propagation has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘JAD037’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘JAD037’ as a new and distinct Hoya cultivar:

    • 1. Stable marginal cream colored foliage variegation.
    • 2. Flower buds with distinct creamy white stripes.

PARENT COMPARISON

Plants of the new cultivar ‘JAD037’ are similar to the parent in most horticultural characteristics. The new variety, however, differs in the following:

    • 1. The new variety has cream colored foliage variegation; the parent variety has solid green foliage.

COMMERCIAL COMPARISON

‘JAD037’ can be compared to compared to the commercial variety Hoya ‘Amore Variegata’, unpatented. Plants of ‘Amore Variegated’ are similar to plants of ‘JAD037’ in most horticultural characteristics, including having creamy marginal foliage variegation, however, plants of ‘JAD037’ differ in the following:

    • 1. Foliage of ‘JAD037’ is narrower and glossier than foliage of ‘Amore Variegata’.
    • 2. Foliage color of ‘JAD037’ is Green 141A with marginal coloration Yellow 4D; foliage color of ‘Amore Variegata’ is Green N138B with marginal coloration Yellow 4D.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying drawing in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color the typical characteristic foliage of ‘JAD037’.

FIG. 2 is a close-up view of the flower buds. Plants were grown in a greenhouse in Chuzhou, China and approximately 2 years old when photographed. The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2001, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘JAD037’ plants grown in a greenhouse in Chuzhou, China. Temperatures ranged from 22° C. at night to 26° C. during the day. No artificial light, photoperiodic treatments were given to the plants. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
