A new and distinct cultivar of Mandevilla plant named ‘Bahwhite’, characterized by its compact and broadly upright plant habit; moderately vigorous growth habit and moderate growth rate; freely branching habit; dark green-colored leaves; freely flowering habit; and white-colored flowers with bright yellow-colored throats.
Botanical designation: Mandevilla sanderi.
Cultivar denomination: ‘BAHWHITE’.
STATEMENT REGARDING PRIOR DISCLOSURES BY INVENTOR and APPLICANT/ASSIGNEEAn European Community Plant Breeder's Rights application for the instant plant was filed by the Applicant/Assignee of the instant application, Vivero las Fresas S.L. of Vicar, Spain on Feb. 3, 2023, application number 2023/0319. Foreign priority is not claimed to this European Community Plant Breeder's Rights application.
The Inventor and Applicant/Assignee assert that no publications nor advertisements relating to sales, offers for sale or public distribution occurred more than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application. Any information about the claimed plant would have been obtained from a direct or indirect disclosure from the Inventor and/or Applicant/Assignee. Inventor and Applicant/Assignee claim a prior art exception under 35 U.S.C. 102(b)(1) for disclosure and/or sales prior to the filing date but less than one year prior to the effective filing date.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Mandevilla plant, botanically known as Mandevilla sanderi and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Bahwhite’.
The new Mandevilla plant is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in Vicar, Spain. The objective of the breeding program is to create new compact and freely branching Mandevilla plants with numerous attractive flowers.
The new Mandevilla plant originated from a cross-pollination conducted by the Inventor in Vicar, Spain in June, 2017 of a proprietary breeding selection of Mandevilla sanderi identified as code number 411, not patented, as the female, or seed parent with Mandevilla sanderi ‘INMANWHIMP’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 28,276, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Mandevilla plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant from within the progeny of the stated cross-pollination in a controlled greenhouse environment in Vicar, Spain in April, 2020.
Asexual reproduction of the new Mandevilla plant by vegetative cuttings in a controlled greenhouse environment in Vicar, Spain since June, 2020 has shown that the unique features of this new Mandevilla plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONPlants of the new Mandevilla have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Bahwhite’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Bahwhite’ as a new and distinct Mandevilla plant:

- 1. Compact and broadly upright plant habit.
- 2. Moderately vigorous growth habit and moderate growth rate.
- 3. Freely branching habit.
- 4. Dark green-colored leaves.
- 5. Freely flowering habit.
- 6. White-colored flowers with bright yellow-colored throats.
Plants of the new Mandevilla can be compared to plants of the female parent selection. Plants of the new Mandevilla differ primarily from plants of the female parent selection in the following characteristics:

- 1. Plants of the new Mandevilla are more upright than and not as vining as plants of the female parent selection.
- 2. Flowers of plants of the new Mandevilla are white in color with bright yellow-colored throats whereas plants of the female parent selection are light pink in color.
Plants of the new Mandevilla can be compared to plants of the male parent, ‘INMANWHIMP’. Plants of the new Mandevilla differ primarily from plants of ‘INMANWHIMP’ in the following characteristics:

- 1. Leaves of plants of the Mandevilla are broader and darker green than leaves of plants of ‘INMANWHIMP’.
- 2. Flower petals of plants of the new Mandevilla are not as pure white in color as flower petals of plants of ‘INMANWHIMP’.
Plants of the new Mandevilla can also be compared to plants of Mandevilla sanderi ‘QD2’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 32,504. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Mandevilla differ primarily from plants of ‘QD2’ in the following characteristics:

- 1. Plants of the new Mandevilla are more compact than plants of ‘QD2’.
- 2. Leaves of plants of the new Mandevilla are smaller than leaves of plants of ‘QD2’.
The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new Mandevilla plant showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the actual colors of the new Mandevilla plant.

The aforementioned photographs and following observations, measurements and values describe plants grown during the spring in 9.5-cm containers with two plants per container in a polyethylene-covered greenhouse in Vicar, Spain and under cultural practices typical of commercial Mandevilla production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from 12 C to 40 C and night temperatures ranged from 8 C to 20 C. Plants were six months old when the photographs and description were taken. In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 2015 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.

- Temperature tolerance: Plants of the new Mandevilla have been observed to tolerate temperatures ranging from about 5 C to about 40 C and to be suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 13.
