Abstract: A novel Eriobotrya having large panicles of distinctive, light pink blossoms, and leaves which are coppery-red when new, turning to a shiny, dark green.
Abstract: A new cultivar of Paeonia lobata distinguished by its profuse production of large, scarlet red flowers held high above an abundant display of mint green foliage carried on large, tall canes, the imbricated flower petals forming a fiery red bowl surrounding a central mass of bright yellow stamens to present a spectacular color effect. This new peony plant has an abnormally early spring blooming habit and its growth is vigorous and rapid with above average strength and sturdiness.
Abstract: A new peony plant variety particularly distinguished by the vibrant orange-coral color of its buds and newly opened flower petals which gradually changes as the blossom matures to become an unusual coral cream color when the petals begin to fall from the stem. This plant is an early blooming variety of medium height, with average quantity of foliage and a profuse production of medium sized semi-double flowers.
Abstract: A new variety of peony lactiflora distinguished by a profuse production of medium sized flowers with petalage of the Japanese type providing large, white, rounded, and smooth guard petals surrounding a large central mass of yellow stamenoids, the flowers being further distinguished by the unusual appearance of white petaloids at the center of the bloom and by a high degree of peony fragrance. This plant is of medium height with average strength, a rapid growth rate and abundant clear green foliage, and a mid-season blooming habit.
Abstract: A new variety of peony plant distinguished by an almost perfect "bomb" type of white flower which is produced profusely late in the peony blooming season and which has an above average lasting quality, both on the plant and as a cut flower. The plant is of medium height with a rapid growth habit, above average strength, and abundant deep green foliage.
Abstract: A booster for a fluid pressure operated system in which relatively low pressure is used in the system and the booster is designed to be positioned immediately adjacent the fluid operated mechanism so as to eliminate the need for high pressure fittings and components. The booster has a spool which is shiftable in response to pressure build up in the mechanism. The spool acts as a sliding valve to direct fluid flow through a pressure converter such as a turbine or volumetric motor-pump located inside the spool.
Abstract: A variable capacity multiple compressor refrigeration system having first and second compressors with the first compressor to be always running when the system is operating and the second compressor to be cycled off or to vary the capacity of the system on while the first compressor continues to run. The discharge lines of both compressors are connected together in parallel to the system and a check valve is provided in the discharge line connection between the compressors to prevent discharge pressure from the operating compressor from entering the discharge port of the nonrunning compressor. A by-pass line connects the suction of the system at the inlet of the second compressor to its discharge line between the check valve and its discharge port and a solenoid valve in the by-pass line is arranged to be closed when the second compressor is running and open when it is cycled off.

Abstract: A glass making furnace having a preheater and recycling structure including a tubular housing having a lower gas receiving stack section, a top in the form of an inverted cone, a glass batch pellet containing intermediate section, having a lower portion over the cone and about the intermediate section, gas ports in the side of the cone, shield means over the ports, a discharge valve in the lower portion below the cone part, a hot gas stack extending over the upper portion of the pellet section, a fan or hot gas ejector at the top of the stack, a damper above the fan or hot gas ejector connecting with a pressure controller within the furnace for maintaining the pressure in the furnace slightly above atmospheric, an inlet valve outwardly of the upper portion of the pellet section to control the entrance of the pellets, a regenerator on each side of the melting section and port and burner means communicating with each regenerator, a reversing valve connected with the regenerators and the melting section, and a p
Abstract: Light stable polyurethane coatings with a considerably increased softening range and melting points coupled with improved resistance to perchlorethylene is obtained by using a chain extender comprising at least 80 mol % 1,4-diamino cyclohexane with a cis/transisomer ratio of from 10/90 to 60/40 .Iadd.and by using aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates wherein such diisocyanates consist of at least 75 mol percent of 1-isocyanato-3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethyl cyclohexane.Iaddend..

Abstract: bichromophoric compounds in which one of the moieties is a benzoxazole group and the second moiety is a hydroxybenzophenone group are excellent ultraviolet light stabilizers for disperse dyes on specific polyester fibers, and for both disperse and basic dyes on specific basic dyeable polyester fibers.
Abstract: a cutting element for mounting in a rolling cone cutter of a rock drill bit has a notch in the periphery of its base for improved retention of the cutting element in the rolling cone cutter. The longitudinal axis of the notch is essentially transverse to the direction of insertion of the cutting element into the rolling cone cutter. To maximize the effectiveness of the notch in improving retention of the cutting element, preferably the notch is sharp lipped.
Abstract: a scanner repeatability error determining apparatus for use with a line scanning apparatus which includes a galvanometer responsive to a complex signal having ramp signal and compensation signal components for driving a line scan mirror. The compensation signal is a function of variations in velocity of the line scan mirror from a desired velocity. The apparatus includes circuitry for defining a predetermined range for the compensation signal and when such compensation signal is outside of this range produces an indication that there is a repeatability error.
Abstract: saturated epoxy resin compositions, e.g., glycidyl polyethers of hydrogenated bisphenol A, may be cured in 3 to 7 days at ambient temperatures with aliphatic amines and polyamides in the presence of selected catalysts such as para-toluenesulfonic acid, boron trihalide complexes and stannous salts of monocarboxylic acids.
Abstract: metal chelating agents such as citric acid can be used to reduce color formation and decomposition of p-benzoquinone containing from 0.1% to 18% moisture level.
Abstract: halophenols of formula ##STR1## where X = halogen, are made by condensation of a compound ##STR2## where Z is OH or halogen with a phenol in the presence of anhydrous HF as a catalyst. The compound ##STR3## where X = F, may be made in situ by the reaction of ##STR4## with an alkali metal nitrite in anhydrous HF.
