Patent number: 4148137Abstract: Method of making at least two different electrical interconnections with at least two wires extending from windings supported on a dynamoelectric machine core. The method includes moving the core, windings, and at least two wires toward a wire connecting device; orienting and positioning a first one of the at least two wires relative to the device; and thereby conditioning the device to establish a first one of at least two different connection configurations. A first electrical interconnection involving a first wire and having a first connection configuration is formed. A second winding lead then is oriented and positioned relative to the device, thereby to condition the device to form an interconnection having a second connection configuration, and such interconnection is made. Indicia that indicate the relative orientation of the stator assembly (or parts thereof) are utilized to condition the device to establish connections of desired different configurations.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Alan L. Patent number: 4148138Abstract: A hand-operated tool (50) for assembling stackable elements (52, 53 and 54) of a multicontact electrical connector (51) and for assembling conductors (56 and 57) to the connector includes a head (125) which is automatically positioned for effectively applying forces to the connector at each step of its assembly and to the conductors. An installer causes the head to be moved downwardly through a first incremental distance toward a support (109) into engagement with an element or conductors which are to be moved into secured engagement with an element held on the support. The movement of the head through the first incremental distance and the initiation of its movement through a second incremental distance causes the head to be spaced from the support a predetermined distance which is automatically determined as a function of the number of elements held on the support in that step of the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignees: Western Electric Company, Incorporated, Bell Telephone Laboratories, IncorporatedInventors: Edward W. Patent number: 4148172Abstract: Blinkers and blinker methods for horses which employ a mirrored inner surface. These blinkers and the method of employing such blinkers have been found to be highly successful in overcoming running problems of thoroughbreds.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1976Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Inventor: Pete Fer

Patent number: 4148173Abstract: A lawn mower blade mounted coaxially at the bottom of a vertical engine drive shaft is normally de-clutched from the shaft and stopped by a brake. When the engine is accelerated, the blade is released by the brake and clutched by a centrifugal clutch to the engine driven shaft. The blade carrier and clutch and brake drum are included in a compact assembly on a hub and mounted as a unit on the engine shaft. To replace the flywheel effect normally provided by a blade fixedly mounted on the engine shaft, the unitary assembly also includes a flywheel mounted on the hub. The assembly and flywheel are protected from blade cuttings by a protective bowl shaped to surround the flywheel and form a mounting platform for a brake band about the drum.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Hoffco, Inc.Inventor: Stephen J. Patent number: 4148174Abstract: A flail type shredder for farm crops employing an elongated frame which is adapted to be mounted at the front end thereof on the three point hitch of a conventional farm tractor and which travels along the terrain supported by a pair of wheels mounted at the rear end of the frame which are adjustable with respect to the terrain to adjust the distance between the terrain and the frame. The chopper has a central elongated flail type crop severing unit mounted on and below the frame at the rear thereof and two elongated wing flail type crop severing units extending outwardly from opposite sides of the frame. The two wing units have housings open at the bottom and provided with a top, and each of these units is mounted on one of the side rails of the frame by a hinge located at the top of the unit, and each of the wing units is provided with a rotatable wheel adjustably mounted at the rear thereof to determine the distance between the terrain and each of the wing units separately.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1976Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Mathews CompanyInventors: Bernard C. Patent number: 4148175Abstract: A self-propelled combine includes a corn picker head having a corn stalk harvesting and windrow attachment on its underside which includes gathering guide fingers for each row of feeding stalks into a sickle cutter and paddle reel forwardly of augers which convey cut stalks to a centrally positioned discharge, whereby the stalks are dropped onto the ground in a windrow.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Inventor: Kent A. Patent number: 4148176Abstract: A haymaking machine has two side-by-side rake wheels that are driven to rotate about upwardly extending axes and move crop between the wheels. Converging guide walls of horizontal rods are positioned in front of the rake wheels and some of the rods extend rearwardly to intersect the working paths of the wheels. Preferably the walls are located above the wheels. Each wheel has arms pivoted to a central portion and groups of tines are pivoted to the outer ends of the arms to turn about horizontal axes. Each group of tines is mounted on a carrier by coils that surround a tube so that the coils can be turned relative to the tube about a vertical axis and set in swath or tedding positions. Swath guides can be positioned at the rear of the rake wheels.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: C. van der Lely N.V.Inventors: Ary van der Lely, Cornelis J. G. Patent number: 4148177Abstract: Juxtaposed, closely spaced, first and second drums are provided, one of which is approximately as large as the other. Said drums define between them a triangular space adapted to receive textile fibers approaching on one side of said drums in a freely flying state. Suction-exerting means are provided only in said first drum and operable to subject said fibers in said triangular space to suction. Said first drum has a suction zone adjoining said triangular space and communicating with said suction-exerting means. Said second drum has a structured outside peripheral surface. The first and second drums are operable to rotate in the same sense so that said first drum revolves away from said triangular space and said second drum revolves toward said triangular space on said one side of said drums so that said fibers received in said triangular space and subjected to suction therein through said suction zone are twisted together to form a yarn when said first and second drums are thus rotated.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Inventor: Ernst Fehrer

Patent number: 4148178Abstract: Devices are described for determining the helix angle of twisted threads during false-twist texturing. The thread passes over a convex spherical surface at the top of a two-armed lever pivoted between the arms and having a vertical zero position. Magnetic means act on the lower arm to bias the lever to the zero position. In one device the lever is pivoted about a diameter of a vertical cylindrical tube rotatable on a second vertical tube, a scale being provided to indicate the position of the tube about its axis which, in turn, depends on the helix angle of the thread traversing the spherical surface, which has a radius of curvature equivalent to the length of the upper lever arm. In another device the two-armed lever is carried by a ball in a spherical bearing and has a pointer at the lower end that indicates the position of the lever with respect to polar co-ordinates on a flat surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Heberlein Maschinenfabrik AGInventor: Josef Raschle
