Patent number: 4185336Abstract: A deenergized solenoid operated valve normally closes the drain line of a sink, basin, tub or toilet bowl, the valve thus serving as a stopper. When a pushbutton switch is closed, the solenoid is energized to retract the valve and open the drain, a flow responsive switch maintaining the solenoid energized until all of the water has drained from the sink or bowl. A float responsive switch will also energize the solenoid to retract the valve and open the drain if water accumulates from a leaky faucet. Whenever water is drained, the low pressure or vacuum that results produces an accompanying venting action. The invention may be used with a P or S-type drain connection and/or with a conventional stack vent, but does not require that any of these be employed.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1978Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Inventor: Lyle M. Patent number: 4185338Abstract: A double valve construction selectively provides a full flush or a partial flush from the tank of a toilet. The apparatus, which may be utilized to modify existing toilet water closets, includes a hollow cylinder with a first valve on its lower end engageable with a first valve seat on an upper end of an outlet from the tank. The upper end of the cylinder defines a second valve seat and a second valve is engageable with the second valve seat. As an operating handle is selectively moved through a first range of travel, it disengages the second valve from the second valve seat for a partial flush and as the operating handle is moved through a second range of travel, it disengages the first valve from the first valve seat for a full flush. The volume of water utilized in a full flush is adjustable, and a mechanism is provided for holding the first valve in its open position until a full flush has been achieved.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1978Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Inventor: Nicholas P. Patent number: 4185345Abstract: A launching mechanism is provided for ejecting a small buoy from a high sd deep depth submersible. The buoy is held in place and constrained by a pair of latch levers that lock into a groove in the buoy tail piece. The latch levers are held in place by locking pins. On launch a solenoid valve is operated allowing ambient sea pressure to actuate a release system. The sea pressure retracts a release piston assembly to which the locking pins are attached. Upon withdrawal of the locking pins, the latch levers are released by the force of neg'ator ejection springs. The ejection springs accelerate an open ended cage containing the buoy through a four foot displacement. The buoy strikes a plunger actuating a muzzle plug release mechanism that permits ejection of the buoy from the launch cage.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1978Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Francis J. Patent number: 4185356Abstract: A door closer is connected to a door. The movements of the door cause a piston member in the door closer to pump a pressure medium through a flow duct. There is also a flow limiting member influencing at least the speed of the opening movement of the door, and this flow limiting member cooperates with an adjustable activating element which, at a desired opening moment mechanically sets the elements of the flow limiting member in a position considerably increasing the flow resistance of the pressure medium. This brakes the movement of the piston member, and thus, also the movement of the door.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1977Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Assignee: Oy Wartsila AbInventors: Markku Kuivalainen, Hannu Pehkonen
