  • Patent number: 4241500
Abstract: A safety razor incorporates an apparatus for substantially vertical displacement of a blade carrier and the shaving edge carried thereby with respect to a skin guard. The blade carrier includes a circular hub retained by a circular receiving portion of a cover member used in the razor. A circular interfacing device, between the hub and the receiving portion, incorporates two eccentric segments. A first segment receives the hub, and the second segment is engaged by the receiving portion of the cover. Rotation of the interfacing device in the cover provides displacement of the blade in accordance with movement of the centers of the two segments of the device. Such displacement specifically causes movement of the razor blade with respect to the skin guard formed in the cover, and is used to provide a height adjustment for the blade.

  • Patent number: 4241504
Abstract: A pocket sized record album opener that is adapted to be held in the hand and contains a recessed cutting edge that slidably engages the cellophane bridge over the open mouth of an album jacket thereby opening the same, all the while, the cutting edge being free of the actual record and the user's hand. In one embodiment, a pair of serrated disk-like cutting wheels are mounted on spaced apart parallel axles such that their lateral surfaces are at different distances from a flat fence-like guide surface. The fence-like guide surface may be moved relative to the position of the pair of serrated disc-like cutting wheels, thereby permitting the apparatus to be utilized in cutting covers, whereby the cuts in the covers to be made vary in distance from the surface on which the fence moves. A cover is pivotably secured to the housing carrying the axle, acting as a cover for the fence-like guiding surface and the exposed portion of the serrated cutting wheels.

  • Patent number: 4241505
Abstract: A dust shroud for a portable circular saw is described comprising an upper blade housing, a lower blade housing, an external connecting link connecting the two and aligned with the saw blade, and flexible sealing means attached to the upper part of the lower blade housing. The thickness of the connecting link is not greater than the thickness of the saw blade and since the link is aligned with the saw blade it follows the saw blade through the kerf created by the blade in the worksheet. The upper blade housing is attached directly to the saw's motor housing and moves therewith while the lower blade housing is attached to the upper blade housing through the connecting link and is thus kept aligned with the upper housing as the saw cuts through the workpiece. The flexible sealing means keeps dust from escaping from the lower blade housing since it continuously conforms to irregularities in the surface of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4241507
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for detecting the presence of, for measuring the magnitude of, and for determining the location of, variations in the distance between the tenter chains in a carpet drying oven. Such apparatus facilitates the measurement of the distance between the tenter chains at various positions along the length of the oven without the need for prolonged shut-down of the oven as has heretofore been required for manual obtention of such measurements. In addition, the instant apparatus allows such measurement to be made while the tenter is under tension due to the weight of the carpet thereon.

  • Patent number: 4241513
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for the drying and preheating of coking coal is described, in which a coarser grain fraction of the starting coal is separated out at least at one location in a flight stream tube through which the coal and a heat carrier gas are fed, and in which this larger grain fraction is subsequently reintroduced into the main stream containing only the finer grain fraction of the coal and the predominant portion of the heat carrier gas. The method and the apparatus through which the method may be carried out allow for a single-step process for both drying and preheating of the coal, make it possible to substantially reduce the length of the flight stream tube necessary, and increase the uniformity of the degree of pretreatment of the variously-sized fractions of the starting material.

  • Patent number: 4241515
Abstract: The moisture content of tobacco, particularly greenleaf tobacco, is reduced to an accurately determined value by conveying a continuous tobacco stream through three successive sections of a transporting system wherein the tobacco is contacted by air currents. In accordance with a first embodiment, a relatively hot current of air is conveyed countercurrent to the direction of tobacco transport in the first section of the transporting system; in the second section, the flow of hot air is concurrent with the direction of tobacco transport; in the third section, the tobacco is contacted by relatively cool air having a relatively high moisture content. The air which is conveyed through the third section can be withdrawn from the first section, and the temperature of air in the second section is regulated as a function of deviations of moisture content of partially or completely conditioned tobacco from a desired moisture content.

  • Patent number: 4241538
Abstract: A pair of lever arms are hinged together at one end and disposed beneath a plant container, compression spring being disposed between the other ends of said lever arms and a flexible water supply hose being sandwiched between said lever arms intermediate their ends. Thus, when the soil in the container is dry and thus light, the spring opens the arms and allows water to flow through the hose to the soil; when the soil is moist, and thus heavy, its weight overcomes the force of the spring and compresses the hose to cut off the supply of water.

  • Patent number: 4241540
Abstract: A hinged screw section for a worm drive garage door operator which allows the worm shaft to be assembled at the factory and folded back upon itself so that it can be shipped in a smaller and shorter package. Two different joints have been developed, one of a "I" type in which the connecting link between the two sections of worm shaft is merely a flat metal section with a hole in each end which fits into a slot in the ends of the two worm shaft sections and the assembly is pinned together with two rivets or bolts and the spacing between the two threaded shafts is such that a rack driven carrier will mate with threads of each portion. A second configuration utilizes an "H" joint and the link contains slots and flat tangs are formed on the ends of the two threaded shafts and joined with rivets to the link.

  • Patent number: 4241543
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing a concrete manhole casing and plugs for use therein. The method comprises fabricating a form for the manhole and securing a plurality of retractable arbors on the inside thereof. The arbors are extended through the form and a sealed plug is inserted on the end of each arbor. The concrete is poured into the form; vibrated and compacted. The arbors are withdrawn leaving the sealed plugs in place. The plugs carry a threading on their periphery and a novel locking structure on the inside surface.

  • Patent number: 4241544
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for sharpening ice skates, which includes means for supporting the blade in a fixed location, and means for moving a rotating grinding member along the blade, with the grinding member rotating about an axis parallel with the plane of the blade. The guide means are provided to allow the grinding member to follow a predetermined profile. The guide means include a gearing arrangement which rotates a cam shaft as the carriage supporting the grinding member moves longitudinally of the blade. A pivotal arm supporting the grinding member has a cam follower which is raised or lowered by the cam surface, to cause the grinding member to follow the predetermined profile.

  • Patent number: 4241548
Abstract: An improved gutter hanger is disclosed of one piece construction having an elongated body portion which horizontally spans the open top of a trough-shaped rain gutter, an upstanding support portion which projects upwardly from one end of the body portion above the gutter, and an upwardly and rearwardly facing hook portion at the other end of the body portion which interlocks with an oppositely directed hook-shaped front edge portion of the gutter. At least one upwardly projecting tongue, struck out of the upstanding support portion, engages under an inwardly and reversely bent rear upper edge portion of the gutter. A nail receiving hole extends through the upstanding support portion at a position above the upper extremity of the one or more tongues so that when a nail is driven through the hole into a building wall, the nail cooperates with the gutter hanger to support the gutter from the building wall and to securely lock the gutter against displacement without the nail piercing the gutter.
