  • Patent number: 4241562
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the automatic filling of plastic bags with, for example, elastic, soft and deformable contents. In order to provide for the automatic handling of empty bags without intermediate, especially manual, steps, the invention provides that the empty bags are attached by extending flaps to a plastic carrier web across a tear line. The apparatus of the invention places a quantity of goods into the bag by means of an axially moving filling piston which passes between spreadable jaws that hold the bag open. The continued motion of the filling piston eventually exerts a force sufficient to cause fracture along the tear line and separation of the filled bag from the flap which stays attached to the carrier web. The piston then moves the filled bag into position for sealing. A number of embodiments is presented.

  • Patent number: 4241563
Abstract: A heat-sealable foil is shaped around a shaping pipe to form a tube and during removal from the shaping pipe is provided with transverse seams by means of transverse heating jaws. The resulting bags are filled by means of a fill pipe and a dosaging worm or auger. A conduit leads from the lower end of the shaping pipe to a bellows and to a bottle of protective gas. The bellows forms a closed chamber whose volume is periodically increased and reduced in the operating rhythm of the bag forming apparatus by means of drive members. Thus the pressure conditions at the end of the shaping pipe can be influenced periodically, so as to avoid that the filled or sealed bags contain undesirable air inclusions or, when filling under protective gas, so as to avoid greater losses of protective gas from leaking into the open air.

  • Patent number: 4241576
Abstract: The gas turbine engine includes a centrifugal fan having radial blades for receiving inlet air through inner entrance openings to spaces between adjacent blades. The air passes through outer exit openings from the spaces between the blades. Stationary inner and outer circumferential segments define closure members which successively eclipse the inner entrance and outer exit openings of the centrifugal fan blades when the fan rotates to position adjacent blades between the closure members. The closure members and space between the blades thus define closed combustion chambers. Fuel is injected and ignited so that continuous combustion takes place at constant volume, the exhaust gases escaping through the outer exit openings when rotation of the fan positions these openings beyond the outer closure members. This continuous combustion at constant volume provides for increased efficiency in the gas turbine engine over the Brayton cycle constant pressure type turbine engine.

  • Patent number: 4241577
Abstract: The steerable wheels of a hydraulically driven vehicle are provided with auxiliary motors which are connected in parallel both with each other and with the motor which powers the main drive wheels. A selector valve permits the motors for the steerable wheels to be optionally connected and disconnected from the reversible, variable displacement main pump. Flow dividers in the hydraulic lines limit the maximum flow of fluid to any one hydraulic motor. The auxiliary motors are of the variable displacement type, enabling them to be destroked to neutral when disconnected from the main pump. Destroking to neutral eliminates energy loss due to the pumping of large quantities of hydraulic fluid through a closed loop when the motors are driven by the wheels.

The turbine control valve means are fixed at a predetermined percent open. The firing rate is increased to a predetermined percent of full load firing rate until the firing rate approximately corresponds to the percentage of full load flow rate of the fluid. The fluid flow rate is then increased together with the firing rate in a manner to increase the throttle pressure of the fluid to the turbine in proportion to load demand on the turbine until the load on the turbine reaches a predetermined percentage of full load.
