  • Patent number: 4258602
Abstract: In an electronic keyboard musical instrument, the operation of a key causes a corresponding frequency information signal to be read out of a frequency information memory. The frequency information signal represents a counting number and is repeatedly accumulated in an accumulator at a first clock rate. The accumulator generates carry signals at a frequency defining a tone frequency. A wave shape memory stores sample values of a wave shape, and a counter addresses this memory to read out the wave shape. The counter is driven at a second clock rate to successively address the sample values one after another, but is reset by the carry signals to restore it to its initial state. Thus the memory generates only those sample values of the wave shape which fall within the carry signal period from the beginning. The tone colors will vary from one tone frequency to another.

  • Patent number: 4258608
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a snubbing device for use with traditional braided cordage. Traditional braided cordage exhibits a certain elasticity when tensioned by having the longitudinal axis of the braided cordage pulled in such a manner that the braid and resulting diameter constricts itself. In a double braided environment, an outer braid would constrict upon an inner braid, which would in turn constrict upon itself. A resilient elastic insert is provided within the inner core thereof, thereby causing the inner braid to constrict thereon.

  • Patent number: 4258609
Abstract: Liquid fluid pressure applied to a piston causes advancement thereof at a rapid rate until an external resisting load applied to the piston rod exceeds a predetermined value producing a corresponding increase in the pressure within the opposing pressure chambers to which the piston is exposed. Bi-directional flow, conducted between the opposing chambers during rapid piston movement, is automatically blocked by a differential circuit pressure operated piston valve to cause a rapid increase in the differential pressures acting on the piston, and an increase in the value of the external piston rod load with a corresponding decrease in its rate of movement in the same direction. A modified embodiment permits the piston rod to act under pressure and with a force in both the extending and retracting phases of the stroke with the same rapid extending rate until the external resisting force is encountered.

  • Patent number: 4258621
Abstract: In the use of pigment coated foil, e.g. so-called "gold leaf" being a common example, in the imprinting of pens, there is unavoidable slippage between the pen, supported on one or more idler rollers, and a rotationally driven printing slug, which detracts from the clarity of the imprinting indicia. This is obviated herein by using a stationary heated printing slug and converting a pen-supporting roller from an idler into a driving roller to, in turn, cause corresponding rotation in the pen. The pen is thus caused to rotate or "roll" across or along the printing slug, and such movement in turn causes the gold leaf to transfer onto the pen with a high degree of clarity.

  • Patent number: 4258624
Abstract: A small-sized printer having print characters circumferentially disposed around a plurality of print rings rotating by a motor on a common shaft, includes a detector comprised of an integrated circuit board rotating on the same shaft. The rotating circuit board incorporates conductive foil contacts which are sensed during rotation by fixed brushes, thereby providing a series of pulses indicative of the rotational position of the shaft and of the print characters which are in position for printing. An auxiliary signal, generated by additional contacts on the rotating circuit board, indicate positions between the print characters on the print rings. Logic circuitry combines the actual position pulses with the auxiliary signals to output converted position pulses which are free of noise and irregularities in waveform normally associated with brush contact switches. These converted pulses provide accurate timing as is required for the print cycle. A motor stop signal is also provided.

Abstract: A device for supporting and guiding a folded workpiece to the stitching needle of a sewing machine by advancing the same between a pair of cylindrical members mounted on the machine for rotation in opposite directions. Each of the cylindrical members is provided with circumferential grooves on their peripheral surfaces with the grooves of each being in general alignment with those of the other. The configuration of the grooves in combination with the spacing between the cylindrical members causes the folded workpiece being advanced therebetween, to become deformed to the extent where portions thereof enter the grooves to effectively support its weight while accurately guiding it along the level of its intended path of travel.
