  • Patent number: 4267723
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of introducing a liquid into a measuring tube and to a device for use in the method. In the specific embodiment the method is used in determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate of a blood sample. This involves the steps of providing a device comprising a transparent tube and a cap fitted in airtight fashion to a first end portion of the tube and having a skirt which makes airtight sealing engagement with the tube. The cap is slidable along the tube from a first position to a second position closer to the first end of the tube, while still maintaining airtight sealing engagement. A second end portion of the tube is immersed in a blood sample and the cap is slid along the tube towards its said second position to draw a column of blood into the tube. The tube is then removed from the sample and the device is maintained in an upright position for a predetermined length of time.

  • Patent number: 4267725
Abstract: An arrangement for registering loads includes an elongated transversely flexible element having two end portions and an intermediate portion therebetween. The end portions are rigidly fastened so as to preclude all lateral movement of the end portions. A compressive force is directed lengthwise of the element and towards the center thereof so that the intermediate portion suddenly flexes laterally when this force exceeds a predetermined limit. Strain gauges are mounted on the elongated element. The strain gauges become stressed when the intermediate portion flexes. The strain gauges generate a signal in response to stressing due to the flexing of the intermediate portion.

  • Patent number: 4267745
Abstract: A shift control mechanism is provided for a transmission or the like. The control mechanism prevents the transmission from being shifted directly from a forward speed to reverse or vice versa. A shift lever of the transmission engages a slider when shifting between a reverse position and a neutral position or between a forward position and the neutral position. The slider is mounted in a guide on a lockout plate with the slider being limited in movement to prevent the shift lever from moving beyond the next adjacent position of the transmission in any single motion. Thus, the transmission must always be shifted into neutral when shifting between forward and reverse.

A porcupine is arranged below the circular-knife roller and the axis of rotation thereof is parallel to the axis of the circular-knife roller. The porcupine grips with its needles the fur to be cut and presses same against the knives. A rake with elongated prongs is arranged on the outlet side of the porcupine, the free ends of which prongs extend between the needles. The rake is pivotally supported about an axis which is parallel with respect to the porcupine axis. The rake is driven by a gearing which is arranged between the porcupine axis and the pivot axis for the rake so that the free ends of the prongs perform a substantially radially outwardly and inwardly directed movement relative to the porcupine to effect a release of the fur from the tips of the needles.

Abstract: A power shear has a pair of parallel frame plates spaced apart to either side of a fixed blade and a movable blade. The movable blade can be displaced past the fixed blade to shear a workpiece extending across the plane and resting on the fixed blade A holddown plate is slidably mounted in rails on one of the frame plates and has a pair of edges guided by the rails and overreached by teeth formed on these rails. These edges of the holddown plate are formed with notches that can be aligned with the teeth to allow removal of the holddown plate in a direction perpendicular to its plane. A positioning spindle threaded through a nut fixed on the one frame plate can have an enlarged head engaged in a T-shaped cutout of the holddown plate so that when the holddown plate is lifted perpendicularly off the frame plate it is also disengaged from the positioning spindle.

Abstract: A tool is disclosed for slitting cable to separate individual conductors or groups of conductors from the cable as a whole and as required in order to form a wiring harness. The subject tool is particularly useful for slitting cable of the type known as flat flexible cable in which a plurality of flat conductors are embedded in or laminated between sheets of insulation. The tool includes a cutting head in which one or more cutting elements is inserted. Each cutting element has at least one cutting wheel fixed thereon at a particular location which would lie between conductors of the cable. The tool also includes clamping means so that the cable is securely positioned and will not slip during the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4267759
Abstract: A safety lock ring for a circular tool, such as a sawblade, comprising a first collar with a generally cylindrical body portion and a flange engaging one side of the tool, a circular, split tool, such as a sawblade, comprising a plurality of separate segments and having a central opening, when assembled, through which the body portion of the first collar extends, and a second collar disposed around the first collar body portion and having a tool-engaging surface on the opposite side of the tool. A pair of annular grooves on opposite faces of the tool are in interlocking engagement with corresponding annular ribs on the first and second collars, respectively, and the first collar is urged against the tool face so as to clamp the tool between it and the first collar by means of an outer locking collar threadedly secured to the first collar body portion. Dowels, press set in the flange of the first locking collar, extend into openings in the tool segments so as to key the segments to the flange.

  • Patent number: 4267761
Abstract: In a digital tone synthesizer of a type using digital data representing the amplitudes of a predetermined fixed number of sample points along one cycle of the audio waveform of a musical tone and an oscillator controlling the sampling frequency as well as the pitch of the tone, a digital filter for transferring the digital data to a digital-to-analog converter at the sampling rate. The digital filter, in response to applied input coefficient values, operates as a low pass or high pass filter in which the cut-off frequency is a predetermined harmonic of the pitch frequency of the tone. By changing the coefficient values, the cut-off harmonic can be changed for a tone independently of the pitch of the tone. Thus any tone of the musical scale may be filtered to modify the harmonic content independently of the pitch of the tone.

  • Patent number: 4267765
Abstract: A high efficiency, low cost fluid pressure engine. This engine converts reciprocating piston motion to rotary output in a novel manner. The engine comprises at least two parallel pistons adapted to reciprocate in cylinders within an engine block closed by upper and lower heads. Each piston is rigidly secured to a piston rod located along the cylinder centerline and extending through substantially fluid tight packing in the lower head. The lower end of each piston rod is flexibly connected to a first connecting means which also includes an opening surrounding a first crank pin. A pair of reciprocating valve means, located within said engine block, are adapted to selectively introduce and exhaust the engine drive fluid into and out of the cylinder above and below the pistons. Valve push rods secured to said valve means are connected to a second connecting means which also has an opening surrounding a second crank pin.

  • Patent number: 4267766
Abstract: A control valve for a servomotor having a disc located in a bore of a hub attached to a movable wall. The movable wall separates a first chamber from a second chamber. A passage in the disc connects a first passageway with a second passageway in the hub to define a flow path to allow free communication of a first fluid between the first and second chambers. A plunger located in the bore has a first end with an axial projection extending therefrom which engages the disc and a second end connected to an input push rod. An input force applied to the push rod moves the plunger which causes the axial projection to deform the disc and interrupt the flow path between the first and second chambers. Thereafter, further movement of the plunger allows a second fluid to be communicated to the second chamber whereby a pressure differential is created across the wall by the first and second fluids. The pressure acting on the wall creates a force which moves the wall and provides an output member with an operational force.
