  • Patent number: 4275580
Abstract: It is desirable for a pair of horizontal roll assemblies of a rolling mill to be withdrawn from the mill simultaneously with the longitudinal axes of the rolls parallel and substantially horizontal. If material is present in the mill there can be no connection between the bearing chocks on the drive side of the mill. When the roll assemblies have been withdrawn from the mill, a support vehicle is positioned relative to the roll assemblies so that the rolls can be supported on upper and lower support surfaces provided on the vehicle. The vehicle is the displaced away from the withdrawal position of the rolls so that replacement rolls carried on a similar support vehicle can be moved to a position from which they can be inserted into the mill.

  • Patent number: 4275584
Abstract: A tool for crimping a sheet metal clasp around overlapped lengths of nonmetallic strapping material. The sheet metal clasp, after being placed around the strapping, is inserted into the tool which can then be operated to cause two lips on the clasp to fold over and constrict the clasp around the strapping material. The tool has two jaws, one of which is elongated, which facilitate this folding action. The elongated first jaw is positioned to fold over a first lip on the clasp prior to the other jaw folding the second lip. In this manner the second jaw can fold the second lip over the first lip thereby securing the clasp. The jaws of the tool are of a solid and unitary construction and are adapted to deform the clasp around the strapping to further strengthen the seal.

  • Patent number: 4275585
Abstract: A densitometer of the vibrator type is disclosed wherein a spring mass system is immersed in a liquid whose density is to be determined. The system includes a pair of coaxial cylindrical masses in the form of fluid couplers having spaces which are open to the liquid. A torsion spring connects both cylindrical masses through mechanically stiff coupling means. The coupling means include a pair of high impedance transducers positioned at the shear interfaces normal to the common axis of the system, so as to take substantially the full torsional shear load between the spring and the cylindrical fluid couplers without contributing to the spring effect. The compliance of the torsion spring allows oscillatory motion of the spring mass system around its axis. An output signal having a high signal-to-noise ratio is provided at the natural resonant system frequency.

  • Patent number: 4275590
Abstract: Voltages at the diagonal points of a bridge circuit are amplified in an AC differential manner and half-wave rectified, which bridge circuit is formed of reference resistors and temperature dependent resistors located in front and rear of an electric heater in a duct through which air to be measured flows. The half-wave rectified voltage is sampled and held in synchronism with a control pulse signal from an oscillation circuit so that the sampling and holding operation is performed substantially at the center of the period during which the half-wave rectified voltage is produced. The held voltage and a constant reference voltage are amplified in a DC differential manner and then applied to a power amplifier circuit which controls a supply voltage to the electric heater. The voltage to be applied to the bridge circuit is an intermittent voltage which is produced by a chopper circuit.

  • Patent number: 4275605
Abstract: An inertial measuring unit which precesses about the direction of apparent acceleration as a consequence of the introduction of a mass unbalance to each of the gyroscopes in the inertial measuring unit. The mass unbalances and the rotational moments of inertia of the gyroscopes are carefully controlled so that all gyroscopes within the inertial measuring unit precess at the same rate about any apparent acceleration. The precession of gyroscopes causes certain of the gyroscope errors to be averaged about zero thus reducing the error in the inertial measuring unit. The effect of precession upon the spatial orientation of the inertial measuring unit is compensated for by sensing the apparent acceleration and computationally compensating for the precession due to such acceleration.

  • Patent number: 4275628
Abstract: A device is disclosed for severing both a needle portion and an end nub portion of a syringe. The device includes a receptacle for the cutoff portions and a removable cover. A horizontally movable severing means may be suspended from the undersurface of the cover. Mounted on the cover is a handle which is mechanically linked to the severing means. Actuation or movement of the handle thereby causes horizontal movement of the severing means. By resting the syringe in a shoulder portion of the cover, the needle and nub portions of the syringe extend downward through an opening and are in line with the severing means. Therefore, when the severing means is moved in a horizontal direction, it will necessarily cut off the needle and nub portions.
