Patent number: RE30790Abstract: Improved lubrication of bearing cups in universal joints is provided. A cross of a universal joint has four trunnions extending therefrom along two mutually perpendicular lines. Bearing cups are rotatably received on the trunnions and the cups in turn are held by universal joint yokes. Lubrication passages extend from a central portion of the cross outwardly toward the ends of the trunnions. When the universal joint is stationary, lubricant such as grease may drain from an upper bearing cup down to a lower cup, leaving the upper cup devoid of lubrication when the universal joint is again placed in operation. In accordance with the invention, a cavity is in the end of each trunnion communicating with the bearing cup and a passage extension extends substantially through the cavity from the lubrication passage toward the end of the trunnion.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1979Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: The Zeller CorporationInventor: David S. Patent number: 4298992Abstract: A box-like recess between the condylar portions of the femoral component has a transverse convexly curved cam follower portion at the posterior extremity of a superior wall which engages a concave cam surface at the inferior portion of the posterior surface of a tibial post that extends up from the plateau surface of the tibial component into the recess. The camming action between the cam follower and cam surface forces the zones of contact between the condylar portions of the femoral component and concavities in the tibial component posteriorly as the leg approaches full flexion, thereby increasing the range of flexion without interference between posterior surfaces of the femur and the tibial component and preventing anterior dislocation of the femur. The plateau of the tibial component slopes inferiorly and posteriorly, also to increase the range of flexion without interference.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1980Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: New York Society for the Relief of the Ruptured and CrippledInventors: Albert H.
