  • Patent number: 4299061
Abstract: The invention provides apparatus and a method for use in machining cam profiles, and is suitable for use in grinding, milling, turning or otherwise forming cams. A workpiece, i.e. a cam blank, is rotated adjacent a machine tool (e.g. a grinding wheel) and is moved relative thereto laterally of its axis of rotation so that stock is removed from the workpiece to form a predetermined cam profile thereon. At the same time, the angular displacement of the workpiece relative to a datum is continuously monitored and the rotational speed of the workpiece is varied in dependence on its instantaneous angular displacement so that the stock can be removed at a substantially constant rate, preferably defined by a predetermined program corresponding to the particular cam profile to be machined on the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4299074
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for compressing voluminous material easy to compress and for storing and transporting the material in said compressed state. According to the invention, thus, there are provided a bottom and two opposed vertical walls capable to approach each other for compressing the material between the walls. When the material has been compressed to the desired volume the material is transferred to a storage or transport crate, which is located with its floor beneath the bottom and with its sides outside of and adjacent the walls. When the material is being discharged between the walls, it expands and presses against the side of the crate and an end side connected to the crate whereby the crate is moved with the material while being successively filled. When the material is being compressed it is pressed downward by a belt acting from above on the material.

  • Patent number: 4299075
Abstract: The method is of the kind whereby a number of strips of packing material is conducted through a cross section shaping station, through a filling station at which articles are arranged on the strips, through a longitudinally extending welding station at which each strip of material is welded into tube form, through a cross welding station wherein cross welding seams are made between the articles arranged in the packing tubes, and through a separation station for separating the finished packings from the strips of material. In order to obtain registration of the cross welding seams with respect to a pre-printed pattern on the strips of material, the cross welding means are individually controlled as regards their disengagement from the strips of material by means of pulses issued by indication marks arranged along the strips of material and arranged with a pitch corresponding to the length of the packings to be produced. The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4299085
Abstract: A textile spindle mount is provided by the subject invention in which a layer of elastomeric material is disposed between and attaches to a flat washer along its bottom surface and a cupped washer along its top surface. The cupped washer includes end sections which extend downwardly and attach to the outer edge of the elastomer layer for limiting the bulging thereof under compression loads. The bulging of the elastomer layer is further controlled by removing a generally curved section of elastomeric material adjacent the outer edge of the elastomer layer. As a result, a high compression to shear springrate ratio is obtained with the spindle mount herein which is capable of good noise and vibration isolation and can accommodate high compression loads without bond failure.

  • Patent number: 4299098
Abstract: A refrigeration circuit is disclosed which is operable in each of four distinct modes for the heating or cooling of a space, the production of a heated liquid, or the simultaneous cooling of a space and production of heated liquid. The circuit includes compressor means; indoor, outdoor, and liquid heat exchange means; along with vapor conduit means including first valve means and liquid conduit means including second valve means so as to afford selective operation of the circuit in any one of the aforementioned modes. A significant feature of the invention lies in the fact that, during operation in any particular mode, the inactive heat exchange means of the circuit is vented to the suction side of the compressor means so as to afford proper refrigerant charge control within the circuit. Control means are further disclosed which sense the load imposed upon the compressor means and prevent overloading thereof during operation in a water heating mode.

  • Patent number: 4299099
Abstract: A refrigeration system having an open front display portion and a rear storage portion. The display portion has a plurality of shelves that are accessible through an opening in the front of the display portion. Access to the shelves also can be obtained from the rear storage portion of the system. A cooling unit is provided that includes a fan and two sets of refrigerating coils. The cooling unit provides refrigerated air from one set of coils to an air conduit for establishing a primary air curtain across the front of the display portion. The refrigerated air from the other set of coils is supplied to an air conduit which in turn supplies the air to the storage portion. A second air curtain is also provided across the front of the display portion; this secondary air curtain extends along a path positioned towards the outside of the display portion with respect to the primary air curtain. A return path for the air from the primary and secondary air curtain is provided along the bottom of the display portion.

Abstract: An improved beverage container holder manufactured by a process including the steps of providing a cylindrical outer cup of foam material and press fitting a cylindrical inner cup within the outer cup after filling the annulus formed therebetween with a refreezable fluid. The cylindrical inner cup includes a radially extending flanged region at the open end which comprises an inwardly and downwardly tapered rib circumferentially disposed about the cup for engaging and becoming embedded within the side walls of the cylindrical outer cup to form a cylindrical seal therearound. A resilient outer ring means is snapped over the juncture between the respective open ends of the inner and outer cup to secure the seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4299101
Abstract: An improvement in post-type earrings, which are earrings connected to a human ear by a rigid slender short rod or post which extends from an ornament, and is rectilinear and cylindrical. The post is threaded at the end opposite to the ornament, and a clutch having a conical configuration formed by a concave base and a plurality of radial springy fingers is provided. The clutch is pushed onto the post, whereby the tips of the fingers engage the convolutions of the helical threading, and the clutch may only be removed by unscrewing it off of the post. The present clutch configuration features a terminal tip of each springy finger having a terminal lip portion which diverges away from the direction of curvature of the finger, so that the lips define, in combination, an opening from which the springy fingers extend radially, and through which the post is threaded when the earring is mounted to the ear.

  • Patent number: 4299102
Abstract: A threaded cap for sealing an automotive vehicle fuel tank is provided with a unitary molded central plastic core and a bonnet rotatably mounted on the plastic core. A pair of concentric races are defined on the plastic core. The inner race carries a unitary molded plastic frame which has a pair of resilient, closely spaced transverse cantilevered arms defining a gap therebetween. The frame is also provided with a resilient catch. A unitary molded plastic bolt is reciprocally movable along the gap to engage and disengage the core for rotation with the bonnet. The bolt has two detents which coact with the catch on the frame to hold the bolt at selected unlocking and locking dispositions of movement. The bolt includes a stud which projects into the gap between the arms so that the arms spring bias the bolt toward the locking disposition. A lock mechanism is used to shift the bolt to an unlocking disposition so that the fuel cap be disengaged from the fuel tank inlet pipe.

Abstract: A method of and apparatus for rolling metal strips in a rolling mill having a 4-high roll stand and a tension roll stand comprising a plurality of pairs of combined rollers. The method comprises advancing the metal strips through the 4-high roll stand and tension roll stand, so that the strip extends between the roller of each pair of combined rollers and is partially wrapped around each of the rollers. The rollers of each pair are rotated in opposite directions at a pre-determined circumferential differential speed ratio.

  • Patent number: 4299105
Abstract: A method of forming a permanent curve in a length of convoluted wire-reinforced flexible plastics tubing comprises the steps of first flexing the chosen region of the tube into a curve whose radius is tighter than that eventually desired; forcibly holding said region in said tighter than desired curves; applying to the tube an internal pressure which is insufficient to burst the tube but which is high enough to strain the wire-reinforcement, the tube material, or both, in the bend region beyond its or their elastic limit; maintaining said internal pressure for a finite period of time; releasing the pressure; and finally releasing the tube from its preheld curve.
