  • Patent number: 4309903
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing selected properties of a ferromagnetic material by magnetically inducing acoustic emissions in the material. The acoustic emission response is measured at a plurality of values of a selected response parameter, the response parameter being characterized by an acoustic emission response which, for each of its selected values, varies in mutual nonlinearity with the acoustic emission responses for the other selected values. The measured acoustic emission responses are compared to each other and to standard responses, thereby providing a more reliable measurement of the selected property than is attainable by analyzing at only one value of the response parameter. Comparing the ratio between acoustic emission responses at different values of the selected response parameter, with standard response ratios for the same response parameter values, further enhances reliability of the measurement.

  • Patent number: 4309905
Abstract: The method for detecting non-uniformities of magnetic materials resides in the use of the direct and inverse electromagnetic-acoustic conversion, effected in the zone of magnetic non-uniformities of magnetized articles. The method is characterized by effecting said conversion in an intermediate layer located in the vicinity of the material being inspected. As the intermediate layer, materials with great values of dynamic magnetostrictive constants are used. The use of the intermediate layer of a predetermined configuration enables estimation of the non-uniformity value not only singularly by the amplitude of the established elastic vibrations, but also by the number of recurrent pulses whose pulse-height distribution is conditioned by the damping factor of the intermediate layer.

  • Patent number: 4309908
Abstract: A liquid filled pressure pick-up or transducer comprises a housing, as strain gage sensor is supported in a liquid filled cavity in the housing and a membrane extends across an opening in the housing. A force transmitting rod connects the membrane to the strain gage sensor. In order to avoid damage especially to the membrane by extreme excess pressures, a plastically deformable support member acting as a stop is operatively held in the housing substantially in parallel to the membrane whereby the rod extends with play through the support member. Abstract: A cross drive transmission having a hydromechanical propulsion drive and hydrostatic steer drive. In the controls, a ratio governor has a set speed control wherein set speed is established in accordance with throttle position, steer request, engine power and brake torque. At least one wrench segment has a laterally and outwardly-extending head defining a plurality of notches having ridges which are rounded and inclined to allow the application of a force thereto as by the rod of a hydraulic cylinder. A reaction-and-support structure serves as a mounting platform for the hydraulic cylinder. This structure also generates the required reaction forces. The rod of the hydraulic cylinder carries a drive pin which applies, during each power stroke of the cylinder, a drive force against consecutive notches, thereby rotating the threaded connector through a small angle during each power stroke of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4309924
Abstract: A wrench having an adjustable jaw on a neck slidably supported by a guide on a handle with segmental threads on at least one side of the neck. An adjusting nut is threaded on the neck and has segmental threads rotatably and drivingly engagable with the threads on the neck. The threads on the neck are axially slidable between the ends of the segmental threads on the nut in at least one rotated position of the nut. A U-shaped spring has spaced arms which springably engage the opposite axial faces of the nut to confine the nut therebetween. The spring has a connecting bight which is nonrotatably opposed to wrench handle. The arms of the spring defining openings through which slidably and nonrotatably pass the neck.

  • Patent number: 4309925
Abstract: A boring bar for machining an internal spherical surface. The bar has a cutting element and a holder therefor both of which rotate bodily with the bar and are simultaneously pivotable in a cutting operation about an axis transverse to the rotational axis. At the same time, the portion of the holder carrying the cutting element can be adjusted radially to the transverse axis for precise positioning of the cutting element. Remotely operable actuator mechanisms are provided, one for pivoting the holder to make the cut and the other for making the radial adjustment to set the cutting element initially to the desired radius dimension and subsequently to compensate for wear, the latter mechanism being uniquely constructed and arranged to make the adjustment while the boring bar is still rotating so as not to affect the normal cycle time of the machine and to provide solid support for the cutting element in all adjusted positions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4309926
Abstract: A method for the preparation of a spherical hob for generation of a gear, which has a plurality of hob blades formed on the surface of a spherical hob blank, is disclosed. This method comprises forming spirally on the peripheral surface of the hob blank projections having a section defining an involute tooth profile by means of a cutting tool, cutting and forming a plurality of blade spaces intersecting said projections to thereby form a plurality of spirally continuous hob blades, and forming reliefs on the side faces and peripheral face of each hob blade so that as the blade faces of the hob are cut, the tooth profile of each hob blade corresponds to the tooth profile before cutting with a certain amount of addendum.

  • Patent number: 4309927
Abstract: A continuous cold cut slicing system utilizing a slicing machine having a conveyor which feeds a loaf into engagement with a series of drums located on each side of the slicing machine channel; said drums are driven by a variable speed motor with the rotation of the drums providing a feed mechanism of the product to the slicing blade. A gripper assembly is provided which rides on guide shafts adjacent said channel with the movement of the gripper in the channel constantly being monitored by an encoder connected thereto and positive drive is supplied to the gripper towards the blade by a clutch means in conjunction with a rack and pinion arrangement. The positive drive may be synchronized with the feed of the drums. As the gripper approaches the knife, the drag may be placed on the gripper thereby compensating for pull of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4309929
Abstract: A trim press employs a hammer assembly to deliver a hammer blow to the punch of the press at the moment the punch begins to apply shearing pressure to material being trimmed. A spring system applies a steadily increasing spring loading to the hammer as the punch carrying platen moves downwardly in its operating stroke toward the die. A latch assembly, triggered by an abutment on the die, unlatches the hammer at the time the punch engages the material so that the downward velocity of the punch due to the downward movement of the platen is increased by a hammer blow as the punch moves through the material being trimmed. The spring system is operable to restore the hammer to its latched position during the upward stroke of the platen.

Abstract: Music playing apparatus for playing selected musical notes in accordance with a selected rhythm pattern. A rhythm pattern is selected having a multiplicity of intervals. The rhythm pattern is repetitively reproducible and musical notes played at any interval within the rhythm pattern may be selectively played as either an unaccented note or as an accented note. Selected musical notes are played at each interval within the rhythm pattern and the pitch of a selected note is determined. The pitch of a selected note is within a predetermined range of octaves in the chromatic scale and this range of octaves may be selectively extended. A tone generator generates audible musical tones in accordance with the established rhythm pattern, the selected musical notes, and the octave band within which the selected musical notes are found.

The shuttle linearly moves between two positions so that the firing chambers are alternately fed a round of ammunition and discharged. The feed system has a pair of augers, each with a helical groove therein which receives a round of ammunition which obtains a dwell position on the zero pitched section of the grooves. A ramming system rams a round of ammunition to the firing chamber aligned therewith and simultaneously ejects any spent cartridge through a forward aperture in the housing. The spent cartridge is frictionally engaged by an axially aligned acceleration belt which quickly withdraws the spent cartridge from the firing chamber and accelerates it onto a deflection cam.
