  • Patent number: RE30876
Abstract: A jacking assembly for moving a load, in steps, axially of a pipe comprises two pawl boxes having lateral platens and which are mounted at axially spaced positions on the pipe. The pawls of the boxes slope towards the pipe and exert a grip on it which allows relative movement between the boxes and the pipe to occur in one direction only. Inflatable hoses connected to a low pressure water supply are sandwiched between the platens and exert a thrust, when dilated, which increases nonlinearly with water pressure, to move whichever of the pawl boxes is carrying the load. This movement, which provides the working stroke, is followed by a recovery stroke during which the pawl box not carrying the load is moved up to the other pawl box under the action of springs or a second inflatable hose. The assembly is able to lift a heavy load with a low pressure water supply and has no moving seals. Its operation in parallel with other such assemblies is also described for house building and slip forming purposes.

  • Patent number: 4317240
Abstract: Sports goggles are formed with anterior and posterior frame sections each having a bow spaced from each other to define a slot to provide increased ventilation of space behind lens and particularly against the rearward surface of the lens for the elimination or reduction of fogging. The anterior frame section carries the lens at a position spaced farther than normal from the wearer's face and posterior frame section carries a nosebridge and temples. These goggles may be economically manufactured by molding lightweight material into a separate posterior frame section and a separate anterior frame section, then joining the two frame sections through tab and slot assembly.

  • Patent number: 4317242
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for the removal of foul air from toilet bowls or the like. The device comprises a conduit having an inlet opening and at least one outlet opening spaced from the inlet opening. The conduit has a hook shape and is capable of hooking over the rim of the toilet bowl and under the seat so that the inlet opening is within the bowl and the outlet opening is outside the bowl. The device also includes an air treatment means within the conduit, capable of improving the quality of foul air passing through it. The device also includes a battery-operable fan capable of drawing foul air out of the bowl via the inlet opening, along the conduit, through the air treatment means and out of the outlet opening. The air treatment means, optionally together with the battery, may be provided as a replaceable pack. A securing means, e.g. in the form of a strap, may pass through the device and be of a length to fit around the bowl. A lock can be provided on the strap.

  • Patent number: 4317243
Abstract: This invention provides a valve by means of which a major portion of the suction flow of a swimming pool filtration system is channeled through an automatic cleaning device which cleans the floor and/or wall of a swimming pool, and a minor portion of the suction flow is drawn from the surface of the pool thereby to skim the surface. The valve has a main inlet opening connectable to the device, an outlet opening connectable to the filtration system and an auxiliary opening which is closed to some extent by a closure member to normally provide a restricted aperture through which the water drawn from the surface flows. The closure member is biassed closed by a spring located in a variable volume chamber which communicates with the interior of the valve between the auxiliary opening and the main inlet opening. When the restricted aperture is blocked by leaves or the like, the pressure in the chamber decreases, compressing the spring and allowing the closure member to open.
