Abstract: A new and distinct chrysanthemum cultivar originated as a sport developed by radiation of the variety "Westland" and distinguished by the unique and distinct orange coloration of its blooms. This new plant substantially retains the vigorous growth habit and physical characteristics of its parent and differs mainly by its orange color. The title of this application is the European denomination for this variety. In the United States, this variety is marketed as "Westland Orange".
Abstract: A heart valve prosthesis having an annular base carrying two pivoting valving members for use in a heart to control the flow of blood. The valving members are pivotally mounted on the annular base for pivotal movement about separate axes spaced from the center of the base. In one form of the prosthesis the base is removably attached to a suturing assembly adapted to be connected to heart tissue.
Abstract: An improved device is disclosed for tensioning a running length of textile yarn. The device has a housing with a yarn passageway extending therethrough. An annular seat is provided in the passageway to receive a spherical element, the surface around the annulus having a radius of curvature upwardly and outwardly therefrom. An upper end of the yarn passageway is provided with an abrasion resistant surface having smooth rounded edges at termination of the passageway, and may be in the form of an insert into the housing or an integral part of the housing. At least one spherical element is receivable in the passageway and resideable at the seat. The spherical element is out of contact with walls defining said passageway when at rest on the seat. One embodiment of the invention includes at least one spherical element in the passageway and a further, larger spherical element that resides atop the passageway, in engagement with the abrasion resistant surface thereat.
Abstract: A turret punch machine tool equipped with controlled automatic x-y axis workpiece movement mechanisms for moving the workpiece over a stationary work table section adjacent a punching station is provided with a separate laser beam generator and with a tool frame carried vertically retractable and extendable laser cutting head in optical communication with the beam generator. The beam generator is capable of producing both laser pulses of varying duration and spacing or a continuous beam. The cutting head is provided with two gas inputs one for use with the continuous beam, a second for use with the pulse beam, and controls are provided to automatically provide varying combinations of use of the punch and laser.
Abstract: The ion beam from a field desorption source in a double focusing magnetic mass spectrometer is monitored by disabling the electric sector of the mass analyzer such that the ion beam is not deflected. An opening is provided in the wall of the electric sector such that the undeflected ion beam may pass therethrough to a detector. This permits the characteristics of the field desorption source to be ascertained more quickly and easily so that a mass analysis may be performed. The monitor may be operated automatically to vary a characteristic of the field desorption source until ions are detected. Thereafter, the electric sector is energized and an analysis performed.
Abstract: A traffic coordinator is disclosed which utilizes a master unit and a plurality of secondary units wherein the secondary units are positioned at artery cross streets for controlling the main artery traffic in a coordinated fashion. Both the master unit and secondary units contain microprocessors for calculating parameters utilized in the coordination system. The coordination system may be installed in already existing timer-controlled intersections and serves to provide a highly efficient real time control of artery green bands, offsets and splits to achieve optimum traffic flow.

Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a protective garment for the user of a chain saw; the garment includes at least a portion forming pad consisting of a plurality of superposed layers of canvas sheets, at least one of which is loosely attached to the pad so that, when the chain of the saw accidentally touches the garment, the said loose layer is readily pulled off to jam and stop the rotation of the saw chain.
Abstract: A dual purpose jacket capable of being worn or folded and inserted into the capelette of the jacket for convenient storage during travel is disclosed. The jacket includes an elastic belt which may be used to strap the folded jacket to a person or the like during transporting of the folded jacket. A method for folding and transporting the jacket is also disclosed.
Abstract: A pair of work gloves are provided with a special attachment mechanism which permits them to be removably attached to a workman's belt or releasably connected to one another. A strip is connected to the cuff of each of the gloves. A pair of mating hook weave connecting surfaces are secured to opposite ends of the strip. The strip may be encircled around the workman's belt and the hook weave connecting surfaces pressed together so that the glove will be removably attached to the belt. Each strip further has a third hook weave connecting surface secured thereto. The third surfaces of a pair of similar gloves are adapted to mate with each other to removably connect the gloves together. The mating hook weave connecting surfaces are dimensioned so that the gloves can be disconnected from one another and the hook weave surfaces that hold each of the strips in a loop configuration will not become disconnected.
Abstract: A panty hose garment constructed of knitted fabric and incorporating stocking tubes, each having no foot portion, each having leg and upper portion with the upper portions being joined together along a center seam, thus defining the panty portion of the panty hose garment. The footless panty hose garment is provided to enable unrestricted passage of air to the feet of the panty hose wearer. The point of termination of the stocking tube portion being elastically secured to leg of the wearer by an elastic band, and the elastic band being superimposed over said fabric, secured at the point of termination by chainstitch to prevent raw edges of the fabric from unravelling. The knitted fabric of the panty hose garment enables the panty hose garment to stretch to fit different sizes of wearers and to snugly embrace the portion of the body of the wearer covered by the panty hose garment.
Abstract: Coated Prosthetic devices useful in the medical and dental fields, such as dental implants, intramedullary nails, and total hip prostheses, are provided having a porosity or density gradient in the sintered plastic coating. The higher porosity is at the outer surface which facilitates bone ingrowth while the lesser porosity which has a higher density and a more continuous plastic layer is on the inner surface and thus provides better adhesion to the load bearing component.

Abstract: An artificial leg for an above-knee amputation. The leg includes a device for restraining knee flexion and means in which motion is produced in response to the application of torque about the hip axis. Mechanical means is provided to transfer and apply such motion to the restraining device so as either to cause the restraining device to restrain knee flexion or to release, or assist in releasing, restraint of knee flexion.
Abstract: A water-saving device for use in the tank of a flush toilet has a movable latch member for supporting the inlet valve float in an elevated position upon initiation of a flush cycle. A secondary float within the tank controls the latch member and releases the main float to allow opening of the inlet valve only after the tank water level has dropped by a predetermined amount. The delay in opening the inlet valve reduces the amount of water used in the flush cycle.
Abstract: A flexible tarpaulin is rolled about a drum mounted on an axle that is secured to a rigid deck by mounting brackets. A spring acting between the axle and the drum serves to retract the tarpaulin onto the drum. A releasable retraction lock may be used to prevent retraction. The tarpaulin has apertures spaced along its edges and a plurality of fasteners are employed having latching pins that extend through the apertures into anchors embedded in the deck to secure the tarpaulin over the pool.
