The filter is obtained by sealing off the center portion of the filter with an inner member which is impermeable to the passage of smoke, thus directing all of the smoke to the periphery of the filter. In one embodiment, the inner member is formed as a thin walled tube of a material such as polypropylene, with the tube being crimped to seal one end of the tube. The crimped tube is then overwrapped with a smoke permeable material.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: American Filtrona CorporationInventor: Richard M. Berger

Patent number: 4357951Abstract: A hair frosting or tipping cap for accurately selecting a uniform distribution of particular locks of hair to be color treated (dye, bleach or tint) or any other treatment where a particular density of hair is desirable while shielding the remaining hair in order to achieve a desired intensity of hair to be treated. The device allows a person skilled or unskilled in the use of a frosting or tipping cap to achieve selective variable intensity of hair to be treated. The cap includes a plurality of hair receiving, puncturable areas forming apertures uniformly spaced about the cap surface and two or more indicia means such as color coding which are affixed in proximal relationship to particular apertures in preconceived patterns whereby the indicia means provide readily visible information to direct the user to select particular apertures through which locks of hairs are pulled out to achieve a particular desired level of intensity of color.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1977Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Inventor: Ronald A. Patent number: 4357952Abstract: A tubular valve for controlling the flow of fluids includes an outer tubular shell having pairs of ports on diametrically opposed surfaces and an inner coaxial transfer tube having pairs of openings which are selectively rotated into or out of alignment with the outer tubular ports. Deformable grommets enclose and seal the space between the outer shell and inner tube and provide lateral tubular extensions projecting through the outer ports for connection to external sources and apparatus. The inner transfer tube, which is rotatable within the grommets, provides communication for fluid flow between inlet and outlet ports and openings. Different fluids may be selectively controlled and supplied through separate outlets.During assembly, each deformable grommet is folded around an insertion device which is inserted into the outer tubular shell and twisted to release the tubular extension which projects laterally from the port.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1981Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Teledyne AdamsInventor: Helmut Knecht

Patent number: 4357953Abstract: An apparatus for introducing powdered solids into a liquid stream at a controlled rate to form a slurry. Solids are metered to an eductor where they are educted into the liquid stream. An automatic cycle timer-controller purges eductor, hopper and piping of residual solids before solids flow is initiated, and following solids flow. Pressure sensors detect low water pressure and/or plugging, shutting off liquid and solids flow.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1981Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Sterling Drug Inc.Inventor: Donald E. Patent number: 4357954Abstract: An improved check valve for a backflow preventing valve of the type having an inlet passage, an intermediate chamber, and an outlet passage, includes a stationary valve port fluidly communicating with the intermediate chamber, a movable contoured valve seat for sealing the port, and a valve closing apparatus in rolling engagement with the valve seat and responsive to the pressure differential thereacross. The valve closing apparatus urges the valve seat to a valve closed position and includes a stationary shaft, a pair of rollers, and a spring. The spring biases the rollers against the contoured valve seat to thereby effect the closure of the seat member against the valve port. An improved exhaust valve is also provided and includes a balanced valve member providing a path between the intermediate chamber and the atmosphere when in a valve open position. The balanced valve member is resiliently biased between a valve seat and a moveable diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: The Toro CompanyInventor: Edwin J. Patent number: 4357955Abstract: An electrohydraulic control arrangement comprising at least one terminal plate having an inlet port connected to a pump pumping fluid under pressure from a tank and an outlet port connected to a return conduit leading to the tank and a plurality of consumer plates having consumer ports connected to consumers of pressure fluid. All plates are arranged side by side and held in abutting relationship by tightening screws extending through axially aligned bores through said plates. The plates are further provided with three axially aligned fluid channels therethrough, one to be connected to the inlet port and the two others to the outlet port. The selective connection of the fluid channels to the respective ports is accomplished in the terminal plate by a control slide movable by auxiliary valves, one of which is controlled by an electromagnet and by an additional control slide in each of the consumer plates, the position of which is controlled by two additional auxiliary valves.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Erwin Hengstler Hydraulik GmbHInventor: Ivan Sauer

Patent number: 4357958Abstract: A non-return valve comprises a valve body 1 which supports the upstream end of a valve closure means 2 formed by a sleeve of flexible but impermeable material. Closure support means 3 of a skeletal structure are positioned within the valve closure means 2. Forward flow through the valve is relatively unimpeded, but reverse flow causes the valve closure means 2 substantially sealingly to collapse upon the closure support means 3. In one of the principal applications of this non-return valve, the valve body 1 is the efflux duct of a fan.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: British Aerospace Public Limited CompanyInventor: Colin C.
