Abstract: A new plant of the Spathiphyllum species is somewhat smaller in size than that of the `Mauna Loa` variety and has foliage with variegated leaf blades that have a basic chlorophyllous field containing streaks and blotches which in colors are lighter than those of the basic chlorophyllous field, and an inflorescence with a spathe that shortly after initial expansion is provided with variegated blades which have a basic achlorophyllous field that contains chlorophyllous streaks and blotches and merges distally in the spathe with a chlorophyllous tip area, spathe coloration changing as the spathe matures to provide variegated blades that have a basic chlorophyllous field which contains chlorophlyllous and nearly achlorophyllous streaks and blotches that are generally lighter in colors than those found in the basic chlorophyllous field of a mature spathe.
Abstract: The retainer sleeve of a three piece ferrule suitable for very small diameter optical fibers has an outside diameter threaded portion at the closed end so that, after the ferrule and optical fiber have been assembled, an outer sleeve, having a correspondingly threaded inside diameter, can be used to adjust the optical fiber end to be positioned flush with the end face of the ferrule during assembly. The design of the outside threaded sleeve for retaining the connector of two fibers to be connected is improved by inserting a shim sleeve of molded, pliable material having a "D"-shaped inside diameter to apply force to the outside diameter of the ferrules when inserted therein for reliable, concentric snug-fit.
Abstract: A camera has a device for metering a filmstrip having a filmstrip metering perforation in each frame thereof, the filmstrip being locked for each frame by moving a sensing member provided on the camera body into engagement with the filmstrip metering perforation. Transmission members, adapted to transmit the movement of a wind-up member to a filmstrip winding shaft so as to wind the filmstrip therearound, cease transmission in association with the engagement of the sensing member with the filmstrip metering perforation for stopping the winding of the filmstrip, and transmit the movement of wind-up member to the filmstrip winding shaft in association with the operation of a resetting member to disengage the sensing member from the filmstrip metering perforation in the initial phase of operation of the wind-up member, after the shutter has been released.
Abstract: A method for the quantitative determination of renin activity in blood utilizing the measurement of Angiotensin I by treating the blood with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and the plasma with phenylmethyl sulfonylfluoride (PMSF) at a preferred pH to ascertain the full range of concentration where PMSF is effective for accurate and quick determination. Also, a method for the quantitative determination of renin activity in blood utilizing the measurement of Angiotensin I by incubating the samples after antibody addition at room temperature (23.degree. to 30.degree. C.) for 1 to 2 hours and separating the free from the antibody bound species with polyethylene glycol after having treated the blood with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and the plasma with phenylmethyl sulfonylfluoride (PMSF) at a preferred pH.
Abstract: Thermoplastic dynamically partially cured blends of monoolefin copolymer rubber (such as EPM or EPDM rubber) with a polyolefin resin (such as polypropylene, polyethylene) exhibit good physical properties and are reprocessable. The dynamic partial cure of the blend is effected by heating the blend with a curative such as a peroxide while shearing the blend. The blends are elastomeric and are used to make molded or extruded articles which have good physical properties without requiring vulcanization.
