  • Patent number: 4429445
Abstract: A cast-iron pipe having an end socket is rotated about its axis by a driven first roller applied against the outside of the socket and a driven second roller applied against the inside of the socket and pressing the latter against the first roller. The rollers can be rotated at differing speeds, and as the socket revolves they rub off or crush burrs or other irregularities on the outside and inside of the socket. A cutting tool on a pivoted lever arm is applied by motor power to an outer face of an end flange of the rotating socket to trim burrs therefrom. The second roller supported on an articulated arrangement can be swung into and out of the socket by operation of a first hydraulic jack. Another hydraulic jack arrangement presses the second roller against the inside of the socket and increases the pressure suddenly when the roller encounters a large irregularity and decreases the pressure to normal when that irregularity has passed the roller.

  • Patent number: 4429456
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for inserting elements into a workpiece. The apparatus includes reciprocating feeding means movable between first and second positions for sequentially advancing a supply strip of integrally connected preformed elements towards the workpiece. Actuating means cooperate with the reciprocating feeding means for rotating the reciprocating feeding means when the reciprocating feeding means has reached its second position. During the rotation, the supply strip of elements rotates with respect to the lead element which has been inserted into the workpiece thereby breaking the lead element from the supply strip. As the feeding means, holding the supply strip, rotates back to its initial position, the interaction of the supply strip and the lead element which has been inserted into the workpiece polishes and wipes away any burr that may have remained during the severance.

Abstract: The printed circuit board for mounting electronic parts thereon is obtained by transferring flux from a supporting film to the surface of a printed circuit board, and soldering the electronic parts thereto after the supporting film is removed. The supporting film is first coated with the flux, and the flux is transferred to the printed circuit board through the application of heat and pressure. Hot air can be blown from an oblique direction on the flux-coated surface of the printed circuit board after the flux is transferred thereto and before the electronic parts are soldered thereto. This method can provide a uniform flux coat on the printed circuit board and can eliminate various drawbacks which are encountered in conventional approaches in which the surface of the printed circuit board is coated directly with flux in liquid form.

Abstract: A compliant terminal pin for use in electrical connectors for housings or circuit boards and the like which is press fitted into position and is retained in the connector housing, printed circuit board or the like by means of a friction fit. The terminal includes a rigid post at one end and a resilient spring contact structure at the other end thereof. The contact structure and the post are joined by an intermediate section having an aperture therethrough and a lance or tyne extending outwardly from the bottom of the aperture, the tyne being fittable into the aperture but being of smaller dimension. The intermediate section is a spring member having tapered sides with the narrow portion of the taper extending toward the post. The intermediate section can move inwardly from both sides by spring type action to occupy a portion of the aperture, thereby decreasing the dimension across the intermediate section.

Abstract: This invention is directed to solving the problem of matching first and second roll-portions of grouted-tile-pattern linoleum roll stock along the longitudinal edges thereof, so as to maintain the overall repeating grouted-tile pattern ("field") without showing the joint. The problem is solved by a remarkably simple implement for cutting the grouted-tiled-pattern linoleum roll stock along a longitudinally continuous grout line with a manually operable blade means, by making no measurement other than visually inspecting the width of the grout line through spaced apart apertures in an elongated relatively thin metal laminar strip member, and positioning its longitudinal edge, nearest the apertures, on the salvage edge in such a way as to leave a predetermined width thereof when cut with the blade's manually guided edge.

Abstract: A coilable measuring blade for coilable rules has a concavo-convex cross section which has an intermediate portion with a smaller arc and greater height extending through and beyond the normal standout length to provide greater standout length. The blade may also have an outer terminal portion of greater height to require its deflection as it enters the rule casing and thereby provide reduction of the speed with which the blade is being retracted into the casing.

  • Patent number: 4429463
Abstract: An electro-mechanical dynamic datum point locator tool is provided to determine x and y axes datum points on a workpiece. The locator tool is a cylinder for placement, for example, in an adjustable chuck in a mill head of a milling machine. A cylindrical tip assembly depends from the cylinder and is flexibly supported for eccentric to concentric rotation during contact with the edge of a workpiece which is held in place on the bed of the milling machine. During rotation of the locator tool, a light emitting diode emits light from the circumference of the cylinder whenever the initially eccentrically placed cylindrical tip touches the edge of the workpiece. As the edge of the workpiece is moved closer to being in line with the centerline of the mill head of the milling machine, the cylindrical tip is reactively moved progressively toward its concentric rotating position.
