Patent number: RE31574Abstract: Apparatus is provided for handling heat-softenable batch material prior to melting it. The batch components are mixed together and then mixed with liquid and formed into balls or pellets of substantially uniform size and shape. The pellets are then collected into a heat-exchange chamber through which hot gases are passed from a melting unit in which the pellets are to be heated to a heat-softened state. The pellets thereby are preheated prior to entering the melting unit to save considerably on energy requirements. A physical characteristic and specifically the depth of a portion of the batch being formed into the pellets is sensed, the depth being related to moisture content. The ratio of the batch material and liquid is accordingly regulated to achieve uniformity in pellet size, which is influenced by the moisture content. Size uniformity is important in maintaining relatively free flow of the hot gases through the pellets in the heat-exchange chamber.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas CorporationInventor: Stephen Seng

Patent number: T104201Abstract: Process for producing diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer from phosphoric and sulfuric acids, anhydrous ammonia and water in a specially designed reactor operated at high pressures to granulate diammonium phosphate at low recycle ratios and with either no, or relatively small, fossil fuel requirement drying per ton of product. By operating at elevated pressures, it is possible to force ammonia into a high temperature (250.degree. to 300.degree. F.) melt without exceeding the recovery capacity of the acid fed to the scrubber. The high pressure slurry from the reactor is forced into the bed of materials in a rotary granulator. Previously operated reactors employed pressures ranging from 0 to 10 psig pressures. This reactor operates at 40 to 80 psig. The process substantially increases production in existing DAP granulation plants and has helped reduce grade deficiencies.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1983Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Inventors: David G. Patent number: 4445231Abstract: A bib, preferably disposable, having a top panel, a full-width pocket having side seams, and an apron panel which pendulously depends from the transverse upper edge of the front wall of the pocket (i.e., a pocket panel) so that the weight of the apron panel acts to gravitationally open the pocket and hold it open, and so that the apron panel may be used as a face wipe without inverting the pocket. Gravitational opening of the pocket is further enabled by virtue of the transverse upper edge of the pocket panel being disposed at a higher elevation than the top ends of the side seams of the pocket when viewed with the bib in its use orientation and/or by securing together face-to-face areas of the pocket panel and the apron panel which are disposed adjacent their coextensive upper edges. Preferably such areas which are secured in face-to-face relation are centrally disposed with respect to the width of the bib.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1983Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: John R. Patent number: 4445261Abstract: A tube is inserted in a bore in a tube sheet, the tube having an outside diameter slightly smaller than the bore. Hydraulic pressure is applied to the tube internally to expand it radially throughout a pressure zone that extends at least up to one end of the bore. The pressure is confined between two axially spaced seals that encircle a mandrel and are engagable with the inner surface of the tube. The mandrel and seals are then shifted to relocate the pressure zone so that it does not reach the end, and increased pressure is applied to produce a firmer contact between the outside of the tube and the bore. Any crevices between the tube and the tube sheet in which corrosion would be likely to occur are thus eliminated. The invention is particularly suitable for use in connection with the heat exchangers of nuclear plants.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1980Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Haskel, IncorporatedInventor: John W. Kelly

Patent number: 4445265Abstract: A drill pipe is fabricated by forming a tubular tool joint with a pipe connection formation at one end. The other end of the tool joint is connected to one end of a tubular adapter by a threaded shrink grip connection. The other end of the adapter is connected to a first end of a tubular pipe body by welding. A second tool joint is similarly mounted on the second end of the pipe body by means of a second adapter.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1980Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Smith International, Inc.Inventors: Wallace F. Patent number: 4445266Abstract: A method of forming a plurality of interconnected metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors on P-type semiconductor substrate (10). A layer of oxide (14) is formed on the substrate (10) and then a polysilicon layer (16) is formed on top of the oxide layer (14). A layer of silicon nitride (18) is deposited on top of the polysilicon layer (16). The silicon nitride layer (18), polysilicon layer (16) and oxide layer (14) are selectively etched to form a conductor pattern. The conductor pattern defines a gate electrode and a plurality of interconnecting lines (42) that interconnect transistors to each other and to the peripheral circuits that drive the transistors. The source and drain regions (26 and 28) are ion implanted with arsenic ions. The exposed sidewalls of the polysilicon layer (16) are oxidized lateral and subjacent to the silicon nitride layer (18).Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1981Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Mostek CorporationInventors: Chao C. Patent number: 4445267Abstract: A method for fabricating a semiconductor integrated circuit structure having sub-micrometer gate length field effect transistor devices is described wherein a surface isolation pattern is formed in a semiconductor substrate which isolates regions of the semiconductor within the substrate from one another. Certain of these semiconductor regions are designated to contain field effect transistor devices. A first insulating layer such as silicon dioxide which is designated to be in part the gate dielectric layer of the field effect transistor devices is formed over the isolation pattern surface. Then a conductive layer, a second silicon dioxide layer, a first silicon nitride layer, a polycrystalline silicon layer and a second nitride layer are formed thereover. The multilayer structure is etched to result in a patterned polycrystalline silicon layer having substantially vertical sidewalls some of which sidewalls extend across certain of the device regions.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1981Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Francisco H. Patent number: 4445268Abstract: A method of manufacturing a semiconductor integrated circuit of the BI-MOS type on a common semiconductor substrate comprising forming an oxide film by thermal oxidation to isolate the elements and a base layer of one conductivity type by a surrounding dielectric followed by removing the oxide film from emitter and collector electrode extending regions. A silicon film of a second conductivity type is formed by patterning and used to form an emitter layer and a collector extending layer by differing purities from the silicon film. Patterning is then employed to form gate, emitter and collector electrodes. Finally, the mask for the silicon film is used to form a base electrode extending layer, a source layer and a drain layer of the first conductivity type and of high impurity density.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Tadashi Hirao

Patent number: 4445269Abstract: An array of semiconductive photoconductor detectors is formed on a substr with which the array forms a heterojunction. The array has a whole or partial overlayer of the same material as the substrate. Ohmic connections are made on the detectors and conductive read-out leads are connected to these connections; the leads are made of a conductor that forms a Schottky barrier with the substrate and overlayer. Ohmic connections are made to the substrate and overlayer such that a voltage bias may be applied between the substrate-overlayer combination and the array. The bais is used to control the accumulation layer in the substrate beneath the array in order to maximize sesitivity.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1981Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Scretary of the ArmyInventor: John H.
