Patent number: 4458419Abstract: A convenience improvement for rotary mowers, trimmers and edgers of vegetation that have a rotating body from which one or more flexible cord-like filamentous cutting blades or flails extend radially so that additional flail length can be fed from the device by merely bumping the rotating body on the ground. A pair of disc-shaped cams, preferably having square peripheries, are radially mounted on the centerline of the cutter, oriented at 45.degree. to each other. They interact with a cam follower so that when a first cam is moved axially out of contact with the follower, by bumping of the rotating body on the ground, the other moves axially into engagement with the follower after a 45.degree. rotation. Once the bump is over, the second cam moves axially in the reverse direction, disengaging the cam follower and allowing another 45.degree. of rotation before the first cam, repositioned by the axial movement comes into abutment contact with the cam follower. The 90.degree.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Inventor: Raymond E. Proulx

Patent number: 4458427Abstract: A gas flows through a pipe employed for intensive heat and material transfer, wherein the pipe has a length equal to 0.5 to 100 meters. The pipe features a gas inlet and two gas outlets. A solid body charge interacting with the gas flow enters at an inlet position in the pipe, passes a plurality of baffles which reduce the cross section in the pipe, and emerges from the pipe at the end position. Together with the surface of the solid body charge, the baffles form gaps of 3-50 mm which reduce the boundary layer of gas on the charge limiting the heat or material transfer. Between each pair of neighboring baffles are chambers in which the gas rotates and thus strikes the charge repeatedly. As a result the efficiency of material and heat transfer is further improved. With this countercurrent system the solid body can take up and release heat during its passage through the pipe and can take up or release material according to the character of the gas flowing in the inlet.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Assignee: Swiss Aluminium Ltd.Inventor: Rudolf Akeret

Patent number: 4458455Abstract: A building set for the setting up of a rectangular, upright plate forming the basis for adhered text comprises: (a) two uniform, rectangular plate sections (1,2) with tracks (3,4), dovetailed in cross-section, on the internal sides facing each other, (b) at least one split locking means (5) whose parts (6 and 7) can be inserted into the tracks (3,4) and, upon displacement transversely to the tracks (3,4), fix by wedge effect the two plate sections (1,2) around (c) a vertical end profile (9,10) at either end of the sign. One or both of the end profiles (10) may form a carrier means (13) for the sign, and said carrier means (13) is capable of carrying several signs. This obviates the problem of disfiguring screws, bolts or the like on the vertical side faces of the plate as the two parts (6 and 7) of the locking means (5) may be mutually displaced transversely to the tracks (3,4) by means of screws which are concealed in the space between the plate sections (1,2).Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1981Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Inventor: Bjorn Tollstoff de Voss

Patent number: 4458456Abstract: An apparatus for protecting structures from flood waters having a channel surrounding the structure to be protected, the channel having at least in part a bottom and side walls with reinforcement means therewithin or attaching a collapsible water-impermeable sheeting which, when not in use would be stored within the channel, and when in use would be raised to an erected position around the entirety of the structure. The sheeting would be sealably anchored within the channel on its lower edge by concrete, and therefore would prevent water from coming into contact with the structure. The apparatus would also have the means for allowing air to communicate between the exterior and the interior structure and a means for covering the channel to protect the sheeting while the sheeting is stored within the channel.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1980Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Inventor: Daniel S. Patent number: 4458457Abstract: An arch is formed of prefabricated reinforced concrete shells connected at the arch apex by an on-site cast concrete joint is built as a skewed underpass structure. In order to avoid complicated edge elements or a costly lengthening of the underpass, the individual reinforced concrete shells are formed to have their horizontal projection (in the horizontal projection of an assembled underpass) define a parallelogram which includes at least one acute angle which correspond to the acute angle formed by the intersection of the axis of the overpass traffic route with the axis of the underpass traffic route. Thus, edge elements are not necessary. An apex joint is formed of on-site cast concrete. Reinforcement rods extend into the apex joint and are arranged in an asymmetrical manner so that all elements can be designed and reinforced in the same manner with the reinforcement rods in the joint meeting directly.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1981Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Inventor: Werner Heierli

Patent number: 4458459Abstract: The disclosure concerns a sectional molding of an elastic material, used for spanning the gap between a pane of glass and the adjacent panel in a window opening of a motor vehicle, or the like. The sectional molding has a generally "I" shaped cross-section, including an ascending web in the gap, a transverse web spanning the space between the pane and the panel and mounting flanges away from the transverse web and extending out from the sides of the ascending web. The mounting flanges are more pliable than the webs and are folded back toward the transverse web upon installation of the sectional molding in the gap. Stiffeners are provided in the ascending and transverse web. Projections on the leading surfaces of the mounting flanges help to secure the same in the gap. A bead at the inserted end of the ascending web anchors the same in sealant in the gap.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Assignee: Gebr.
