  • Patent number: 4464844
Abstract: A method for dewatering an aggregate solid substrate is disclosed which comprises placing the substrate between two moving permeable belts, compressing the substrate between the belts, contacting the substrate with a displacement fluid while it is still compressed between the belts such that the substrate and the fluid remain in plug flow while in contact with each other, removing relatively pure water which is expressed by the displacement fluid, further compressing the substrate between the belts to remove excess displacement fluid, and collecting the dewatered substrate. In a preferred embodiment, both the relatively pure water and the excess displacement fluid are collected for recycling, direct disposal, or other use.

  • Patent number: 4464848
Abstract: Impregnated wood and other impregnated cellulose based materials are dried in high boiling drying media, drying oil, under reduced pressure. During the treatment the material is withdrawn from direct contact with the drying medium at several times. The absorption of oil in the materials can hereby be controlled. Materials of different qualities and origin can be dried with good results and the oil absorption does not have to be made dependent on the penetration depth of the impregnating solution. An autoclave for drying of wood according to this process preferably has a rectangular inner cross section and is provided with means for lifting and lowering the materials. Preferably a lifting table or frame.

  • Patent number: 4464851
Abstract: A mechanical harvester for marine bivalve mollusks and the like. A harvester head is provided for movement along a bottom to be harvested, which head includes driven tined elements for dislodging mollusks from the bottom and for removing dislodged mollusks and conveying same away from the bottom. The harvester head is supported by a cable system, preferably from a marine vessel, that is adapted to impart a substantially constant lifting force on the harvester head over a predetermined range of water depth, such that a predetermined pressure only is applied by the head against the bottom during harvesting, whereby damage to the bottom that would hinder replenishment of marine life is avoided. The harvester head is also capable of pitch and roll movement to follow the contour of the bottom during harvesting.

  • Patent number: 4464879
Abstract: Retractile cords disposed in a U-shaped configuration are arranged about the periphery of a turntable with the ends of each cord adjacent to the peripheral edge being terminated with modular plugs. As a cord having its ends terminated with modular plugs is moved into a last work station, a pickup arm removes the cord. As the plug-ends are moved outwardly from the turntable, a middle section of the U-shaped cord is engaged by a snagging pin that is moved into one portion of a foldable tray to hold the middle section of the cord as the plug ends are moved farther along above the tray. The plugs are released, and the cord retracts and drops into the tray. Then the snagging pin is retracted, and the tray is caused to be folded to form an opening beween portions of the tray. The cord descends through the opening into an open end of a bag formed between two plies of a plastic material. The plies are bonded together adjacent to the open end and the bag is separated from its supply.

  • Patent number: 4464885
Abstract: A truss assembly and attachment member for use in constructing assemblies. The attachment member includes an intermediate leg with first and second connecting plates disposed at opposite ends of the intermediate leg. Each of the connecting plates have a plurality of sharp projections extending generally perpendicular from the connecting plates. The intermediate leg has at least one projection extending from the side opposite the sharp projections of the connecting plates and extending substantially the entire length of the leg between the connecting plates. This projection is higher in the proximity of the connecting plates than in the center of the leg midway between the connecting plates. The leg also has a pair of side flanges projecting from both its outside edges and extending in an opposite direction from the projection.

  • Patent number: 4464887
Abstract: A method for cleaning threshed grain in a combine harvester is disclosed wherein the threshed grain is conveyed into a cleaning cylinder that is rotatably driven at a sufficient speed to impart centrifugal forces on the threshed grain to urge the grain through sieve openings during each entire 360 degree revolution of the cleaning cylinder. The cleaning sieves are mounted within axially extending cleaning shoes connected to the rotating cleaning cylinder for individual reciprocatory movement along a generally axial direction inclined inwardly toward the axis of rotation to convey the threshed grain rearwardly and help the cleaned grain pass through the sieve openings. Simultaneously with the rotating of the cleaning cylinder and the reciprocating of the cleaning shoes, a fan blows air through the sieves in the cleaning cylinder to make the unwanted residue airborne for discharge rearwardly from the cylinder, the air also being directed through the threshold grain twice before it is received on the sieves.

  • Patent number: 4464889
Abstract: Charges of loosely bunched crop material are swept along an arcuate wall section leading to the inlet opening of a baling chamber while their volumes are decreased by compressing them radially outwardly against the arcuate wall section. The feeding and compressing mechanism is in the form of a rotary drum having radial partitions defining the feeding and compressing chambers and hinged plate portions to effect the compressing.

  • Patent number: 4464890
Abstract: An agricultural-machine intake has a frame adapted to travel along the ground in a travel direction, a transverse feeder fixed extending horizontally and transversely to the direction on the frame, a pair of end mounts on the frame and a center mount transversely flanked thereby, supports carrying the mounts on the frame for up and down movement generally tangential of the transverse feeder, and a jointed reel centered on and rotatable about at least one horizontal reel axis extending transverse to the direction through the mounts. The reel has outer ends journaled in the end mounts, a jointed center journaled in the center mount and axially subdividing the reel into two halves, and radially extending tines. Respective ground-engaging end and center skids are vertically displaceable on the frame. Respective end and center links connect the end and center skids to the respective mounts for synchronous vertical movement of the skids with the respective mounts.

  • Patent number: 4464891
Abstract: A combination yarn processing machine and overhead creel assembly comprising a machine mounted overhead creel assembly including a bobbin carriage which pivots about an axis mounted on a framework above the yarn processing machine. The bobbin carriage pivots through a circular arc between an up position substantially above and over the processing machine and a down position substantially above and beside the machine without substantially changing the length of the yarn extending between creel bobbins or other yarn packages in the bobbin carriage and the processing machine and is loaded and unloaded to replace empty yarn packages while the processing machine is in operation drawing yarn from still laden yarn packages on the same bobbin carriage. A spring loaded counterbalancing system holds the bobbin carriage in the up position and in the down position and aids in minimizing the effort expended by operators servicing the machine while moving the bobbin carriage between the up and down position.

Abstract: On the main frame (1) of the ring spinning machine a box-shaped frame (11) is supported, which is used for exchangeably and loosely taking up storage devices (14), which can be lined up in a row. The storage devices (14) on their lower side are provided with a plurality of suspension devices (16) for taking up the roving bobbins (10). The frame (11) also is used as a rail arrangement for a transporting carriage (15), which can, using suitable elevator devices (17,18), and along its movement from one end of the machine to the other, take up at least one plate-shaped storage device (14) with empty roving bobbins (10), and can deposit at this location a plate-shaped storage device (14) with full roving bobbins (10).These measures permit complete automation of the exchange of roving bobbins on the machine.
