One roller of each set is mounted on a slidable base portion (27) that provides for varying the roller spacing and is removable from a main base (26) and reinsertable thereinto along the opposite side to reverse roller positions. Modified forms of seaming apparatus have two spaced slide bores (335) in blocks (333) sandwiched between spaced plates (331, 332) with thrust pins 341 slidable in the bores for guided movement of two base portions (326, 327).

  • Patent number: 4470189
Abstract: An improved method for making polycide structures for use in electrode and wiring interconnection applications. It includes depositing a layer of polysilicon on an insulating layer and forming on this polysilicon layer a silicide structure and a silicon capping layer. The deposited layers are defined and etched through dry etching techniques using a dry etching mask made of a refractory metal that does not form a volatile halide in a dry etching environment. Metals with such characteristics include cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), and manganese (Mn). The metal mask and the other deposited layers may be formed and defined using a photoresist mask as a deposition mask formed to be compatible with lift-off techniques. The silicide may be deposited either through a chemical vapor deposition process or through evaporation techniques. If it is formed through the co-evaporation of metal and silicon, then the structure is subjected to a low temperature reaction annealing step at a temperature between 500.degree.

Abstract: A method for changing Josephson device parameters, e.g., the critical current of a Josephson junction. The method comprises incorporating doping material into the device, or part of the device, followed by a light anneal. Exemplary dopants include In, Sn, Sb, Te, Bi, Hg, Mg, Li, Cd, Na and Ta, with In, Sn, and Sb being preferred dopants for changing the critical current of a Josephson junction having a Pb-containing counter electrode. The dopant can be incorporated into the device by in-diffusion after deposition onto the surface, by ion implantation, or by any other convenient method. The amount of dopant required is typically small. For example, deposition of a Sn layer of 0.05 nm effective thickness onto the 200 nm thick Pb-Sb(1.5 wt. %) counter electrode of a cross-type Josephson junction, and annealing at 80.degree. C. for about 3 hours, resulted in an increase in the critical current of the junction by a factor of about 2.5.

Abstract: A method is provided for selectively doping a compound semiconductor such as GaAs in situ by molecular beam epitaxy. The surface of the GaAs is coated with a thin layer of As by exposing it to an arsenic flux within a molecular beam epitaxy chamber. Selected areas of the surface are irradiated with a laser beam or a beam of photons, electrons, or ions in order to desorb As and form a mask of As on the surface. Dopant material such as tin is then deposited over the surface and As mask. The semiconductor is then heated to desorb the As mask while leaving the dopant in the unmasked areas. An epitaxial layer of GaAs is then grown over the surface by molecular beam epitaxy.
