  • Patent number: 4477970
Abstract: A method for preparing a printed circuit board for mounting of surface mounted RF components such that the lead inductance of the components is minimized. The process consists of producing plated through apertures in the printed circuit board to create a component body hole with lead contacts extending to the edge of the component body hole. The resulting aperture is then blanked to remove portions of the metal lining to provide electrical isolation between the lead contacts while maintaining lead contacts that extend to the edge of the component body hole. A component is then soldered into position such that solder is wicked through the plated through apertures to create solder contact of the leads at the edge of the component body hole. This results in substantial reduction in lead inductance improving RF amplifier gain and stability and improving bandwidth characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4477983
Abstract: A cylinder dryer usually includes a plurality of heated cylinders (4) about which a web-like material (1) is taken in a zig-zag mode and pressed against certain of the heated cylinder surfaces by means of an endless high-permeability wire (3), whereby cylinder pockets are formed between the cylinders (4), web (1) and wire (3), when the latter relinquishes contact with the web at a cylinder surface (6) to pass over a return roll (7) arranged between the cylinders, and once again makes contact with the web at the next following cylinder circumference (8). According to the invention these cylinder pockets are ventilated by a flow of drying air from a blowing box (9) being blown over the width of the wire against its surface facing away from the cylinder, in a direction forming an acute angle to and having a directing component substantially counter to the direction of travel of the wire. Blowing is carried out thereby within an area (6) where the wire relinquishes contact with the web.

  • Patent number: 4478001
Abstract: The present invention relates to a protective entranceway contained in the outer door of a van, trailer or other shelter means. In one mode our device takes the form of a door operable about a vertical hinge line, and although thicker than an ordinary door, it serves in the manner of an ordinary door to provide closure for the shelter means at such time as no contamination is present. A platform is contained on the outer portion of our door, which is enabled to swing downwardly at the time of a contamination alert. A canopy that had been contained in the door in a folded condition is caused by downward movement of the platform to deploy and form a closed entranceway serving in a second mode of use to prevent contaminated air from entering the shelter means.

  • Patent number: 4478009
Abstract: An automatic control system for machine tools having rotary tools is disclosed in which the tool drive motor load current, which is proportional to the mechanical load on said drive motor, is maintained at a selectable desired level by controlling the duration and phase of the power supplied to an alternating current feed motor which controls the distance between the rotary tool and the workpiece. A sensed load signal which is greater than the preselected level will cause the feed motor to move the tool away from the workpiece, while a load signal less than that desired will cause the feed motor to move the tool toward the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4478010
Abstract: An in-line sander for hand held operation and having a housing in which a rotating electric motor drives a drive shaft to rotate on a first axis, with a second axis of the drive shaft canted to the first axis and supporting a bearing thereon. A wobble housing is supported on the bearing to orbit therewith, the wobble housing having an arm extending to a platen support and extensibly and pivotably connected to a portion thereof. This orbiting of the wobble housing influences motion of the platen support in accordance with the angle of the cone described by the second axis of the drive shaft. The platen support is made of a resilient material and carried by the housing on legs extending to a base portion, which legs have a low moment of inertia in the direction of in-line sanding, and a high moment of inertia normal to the direction of in-line sanding, so as to be disposed to motion in the in-line sanding path only.

  • Patent number: 4478013
Abstract: Extruded aluminum members provide a sloped framework for supporting glazed panels in an inclined or sloped roof structure. A sill has a flat upper surface and upwardly sloping rafters rest on the sill and have channel defining portions to support the panels and to provide a passageway which moves moisture toward the flat sill. Purlin means provide a moisture proof joint for the panels between the rafters, and stop means at the sill and at the ridge of the roof structure provide a clean appearance for the resulting structure.

  • Patent number: 4478016
Abstract: A device for use in positioning and securing a door jamb in a level condition. The device includes a spacer plate assembly having a planar member with a lip extension at each end which extends beneath the inner portion of the sides of the jamb during the leveling process. A pair of bolt shaped members are threadedly received in the planar member, one at each end thereof, to provide a means of raising and lowering the ends of the spacer plate assembly. A suitable level indicating unit such as a carpenter's level is also mounted on the spacer plate. The device further includes a pair of anchor base plates which are mounted in the floor, one at each end of the spacer plate, adjacent the lip extensions. The bolt members are rotated until the level indicating unit shows the spacer plate to be in a level condition, at which time each side of the door jamb is fixed to the respective anchor base plate by anchor screws or similar means.
