  • Patent number: 4485616
Abstract: Method and apparatus for supplying vacuum to a serving device which travels along a multi-station parent textile machine such as a spinning frame and providing a servicing operation such as yarn piecing or package doffing to the stations of the parent machine are disclosed, wherein a vacuum duct, which has vacuum outlet openings corresponding to the individual stations of the machine and lids rotatably supported for closing the vacuum outlet openings, is arranged along the parent machine and the servicing device includes a nozzle which takes in vacuum from the duct. The nozzle is advanced toward the vacuum duct just before the servicing device reaches a station which calls for the servicing, and the end of the nozzle rotates the lid to uncover its vacuum outlet opening and then is stopped in alignment with the opening. Then, the nozzle is moved with the servicing device to rotate the lid thereby closing the outlet opening, whereafter it is retracted to its original position.

Abstract: A false-twist apparatus has three parallel shafts carrying interleaved sets of friction disks interconnected by drive belts for joint rotation; one of these shafts is journaled in a stationary mounting plate while the others are journaled in a carrier pivotally connected with that plate for swinging about a fulcrum offset from the three shaft axes whereby two of the disk sets can be separated to facilitate the introduction of a yarn into the intervening twisting region. A whorl on the carrier-supported shaft nearest the fulcrum is normally driven by frictional contact with a continuously moving tangential belt but is disengaged from that belt in the swung-out position of the carrier so that the disks are arrested during introduction of the yarn.

  • Patent number: 4485619
Abstract: An anti-icing system for a rotating blunt nose bullet of a gas turbine engine uses a rotating thermosyphon effect to create a circulation within a chamber connected for rotation with the nose bullet which draws hot air from a downstream region of the engine forwards to impinge on the nose bullet over a small region close to the engine axis. This avoids complications with separate hot air supplies or electrical heaters. As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 of the drawings, in one embodiment of the invention the chamber consists simply of a tube closed off by the nose bullet and in combination with an engine main shaft which extends to the turbine region of the engine to draw hot gas from this region. Alternatively, the chamber may extend only to the downstream end of the first compressor.

Abstract: A coolable stator assembly 18 positioned outwardly of an array of rotor blades 32 in a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The stator assembly includes an outer case 48 and an outer air seal 76 positioned outwardly of the array of rotor blades by the outer casing leaving a variable clearance gap G therebetween. The outer case has an upstream flange 52 and a downstream flange 54 for joining the outer case to adjacent cases 46, 50. A coolable rail assembly 22 for varying the diameter of the outer air seal and the clearance gap G is attached to the outer air seal. Various construction details for improving the sealing effectiveness of the stator assembly are developed. The coolable rail assembly is supported inwardly of a plurality of spray bars 26 from the upstream flange and the downstream flange. In one embodiment, a first section 102 and a second section 104 of the outer casing support the rail assembly from the flanges.

  • Patent number: 4485621
Abstract: A method for removing particulates from internal combustion exhaust gases in a system which includes a first gas conduit which connects with an engine exhaust pipe and which communicates with a trapping chamber containing means for filtering or trapping particulate matter present in the exhaust gas. A second gas conduit connects with said first gas conduit at a location upstream of the said trapping chamber and leads to a regenerating chamber which contains an electrically conductive substrate which carries an oxidation catalyst. A third gas conduit carries the hot gas from the regenerating chamber and connects with said first gas conduit at a location also upstream of said trapping chamber. The electrically conductive substrate material within the regenerating chamber is part of an electrical circuit and is heated by current passing therethrough.

Abstract: An exhaust gas cleaning device comprises at least one exhaust gas flowing passage, at least one particulates collecting member composed of two filter elements having different heat capacity, which is disposed within the exhaust gas flowing passage and heating means which is interposed between the filter elements so as to be closely contacted therewith. The filter element having smaller heat capacity is disposed on the upper stream side of the heating means and the filter element having larger heat capacity is disposed on the downstream side thereof. The filter element having smaller heat capacity is rapidly heated by the heating means and the heat of the filter element having smaller heat capacity is transmitted to the filter element having larger heat capacity. All of the particulates collected by the particulates collecting member can be burnt off with excellent heat efficiency.

Abstract: A lift truck is disclosed with a changeable speed electric motor for driving a single positive displacement pump to supply the power steering and various work handling hydraulic load circuits. Manually actuable selector means are operatively connected with the load circuits and a speed range control means is operatively connected with the selector means for energizing the electric motor in different speed ranges according to the actuation of the selector means. A priority demand valve is connected between the pump and the respective load circuits and supplies fluid to the load circuits, giving priority to the power steering circuit. The speed range control means includes speed regulating means for the electric motor. The motor is energized from the battery and the regulating means includes a pulsing circuit with a motor current feedback to vary the mark/space ratio of the pulses produced by the pulsing circuit.
