  • Patent number: 4488354
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simulating custom chips to be used in a data processing system. Each chip is simulated by a chip simulator that includes a mother board and a plurality of baby boards mounted and interconnected on the mother board. Each baby board has circuit components mounted thereon for performing the circuit function of one cell of the chip. Chip simulators are interconnected in an interconnecting apparatus that supports the mother boards in parallel and spaced apart relation. Chip simulators that represent all of the chips found on a single printed circuit board in the system are interconnected at the interconnecting apparatus so that design errors which are only evident when the chips are interconnected can be tested for and detected prior to fabrication of the chips.

  • Patent number: 4488355
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for forming wire-like contact elements within a plastic housing (32) to form a coupler (35). Each of a plurality of leading end portions of wire supplies (61-61) is moved into a cavity at one end (38) of the plastic housing which is held in a nest (55), through one aligned passageway and into a cavity at the opposite end (37). The cavities are designed to receive modular plugs, the terminals of which are connected by the coupler. The leading end portions of the wires are formed into a retroflexed configuration (41) by tooling (57) which remains in the cavity at the opposite end (37) while the wire lengths in the housing are severed from their supplies adjacent to the cavity at the one end (38). Additional tooling (59) is moved to engage the newly formed trailing end portions of the wires and to bend them to have a retroflexed configuration (43) with free ends being disposed between partitions.

  • Patent number: 4488356
Abstract: This invention concerns a method of making electrical contact buttons comprising the steps of presenting a strip of clad metal having a width narrower than the diameter of a finished contact electrical contact button and having a thickness greater than the thickness of the finished electrical contact button to a coining operation where the strip is successively pressed between a coining punch and a coining die to successively plastically deform uniformly spaced apart portions of the strip into the configuration of the electrical contact button. Tranverse ribs are then formed in the spaces between contact buttons in order to prevent forward flow of the metal during plastic deformation thereof. The electrical contacts are then punched out of the strip.

Abstract: An elongated structural member including two preferably identical wooden members permanently joined in spaced relation by a web member having a length equal to that of the wooden members and a thickness preferably not greater than about one-third that of the wooden members. A groove is formed centrally of one side of each of the wooden members along the full length thereof and marginal edge portions of the web, having a thickness substantially equal to the width of the grooves, are securely fastened in the grooves to join the wooden members. An additional member may be secured to the web along its length, with one edge in abutting relation to one of the wooden members and the other edge in spaced relation to the other wooden member to provide a channel for insertion of an edge portion of a panel member which extends between two of the structural members.

  • Patent number: 4488391
Abstract: A centering clip for window frames, comprising an element of spring metal to provide a resilient clip, having a base portion attached to the top edge of a window frame, and inclined portion integrally formed with the base portion at an acute angle, with the inclined portion having a row of teeth along the free end. When the window frame is inserted into the mounting opening or mounting frame, the inclined portion of the resilient clip engages the top edge of the mounting frame and is compressed when the window frame is inserted. The row of teeth at the free end of the centering clip bites into the top edge of the mounting frame and holds the window frame against removal until the centering clip is depressed to disengage the teeth from the top edge of the mounting frame. The window frame is thus held within the mounting frame until a workman is able to nail the window frame in place.

  • Patent number: 4488392
Abstract: An underground house includes a dome-shaped structure disposed on a solid floor slab. A plurality of curved arch members extend from the floor slab to a ring structure. A layer of stiff mesh supporting a layer of fabric extends between each arch member and the arch members adjacent thereto. Alternate layers of spaced horizontal and vertical reinforcing rod extend over and generally parallel to the fabric and are supported by the various arch members. The various pieces of reinforcing rod are tied together and to the adjacent mesh by pieces of tie wire to support the mesh and the fabric. The fabric provides support during construction for a layer of gunnite or shotcrete into which various pieces of the reinforcing rod are embedded. Front and rear atriums with vertical, semi-cylindrical walls extend to the lower floor level. The atrium walls extend to adjoin the layer of gunnite to laterally enclose the atriums.

  • Patent number: 4488395
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved lawn mower construction adapted for cutting vegetation into pieces and delivering the cut vegetation pieces into a disposable flexible air impervious baglike receptacle for disposal of the cut vegetation pieces. The lawn mower includes a housing having a plurality of wheels movably supporting the housing. A prime mover, such as, a gasoline internal combustion engine is mounted on the housing. The prime mover has a drive shaft drivingly connected thereto. A cutting blade is connected to the shaft. The cutting blade is mounted in the housing for cutting vegetation under the housing and throwing the cut vegetation pieces toward the outer periphery of the housing. A blower impeller is mounted on the drive shaft within the housing for blowing air out of the housing. A junction is a part of the housing for receiving air and cut vegetation pieces propelled by the blade and air blown by the impeller for moving the cut vegetation pieces.

  • Patent number: 4488398
Abstract: A power plant integrated with coal gasification includes an oxygen plant for separating oxygen from air and a coal gasification plant for producing a combustible gas by reaction of coal with a gasifying agent containing at least oxygen as an effective component. The combustible gas is supplied as a fuel to a gas turbine, and a portion of compressed air is bled from an air compressor for gas turbine at the outlet or at the intermediate stage of the air compressor, and divided into two portions, one of which is supplied as feed air to the oxygen plant, thus eliminating the need for a feed air compressor, and another of which is mixed with the oxygen from the oxygen plant to prepare oxygen-enriched air, which is supplied to the coal gasification plant, thus reducing the capacity of the oxygen plant.

Abstract: In a propfan engine, the need for an annular or chin-type intake when the propfan is mounted in front of the engine is avoided by mounting the propfan downstream of the engine. The engine exhaust is ducted to atmosphere through inner chutes which alternate with outer chutes through which ambient air flows. The alternate streams of exhaust gas and ambient air then flow through axial ducts which are located between adjacent blade mountings in the rotating hub of the propfan.
