Patent number: 4519140Abstract: An incremental path measuring instrument is disclosed which includes a plurality of reference marks R.sub.1 . . . R.sub.n which are interposed between respective code marks C.sub.1 . . . C.sub.n. The reference marks and code marks are applied alternately and serially to the reference track included on the measuring scale. A scanning unit is included in the measuring device for scanning in series the reference marks and the code marks. Each of the code marks is unique, and only one of the two adjacent code marks and the respective reference mark must be scanned by the scanning unit in order to identify the reference mark unambiguously. When absolute position values are allocated to respective individual reference marks, the incremental path measuring device can operate in a quasi-absolute mode of operation, since then the position of each of the reference marks is established with respect to a predetermined zero point.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1982Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Dr. Johannes Heidenhain GmbHInventor: Walter Schmitt

Patent number: 4519141Abstract: In a gear probe for testing the shape and orientation of gear flanks, a control and computer unit is used to effect the necessary positioning between the gear flank to be tested and a measuring sensor. First the gear is positioned coarsely; during this step a transmission disc and a linear transmission track are out of engagement with one another. Thereafter, the measuring sensor is advanced into the tooth gap and a fine positioning for a zero balancing of a potentiometer of the measuring sensor is effected by automatically displacing the linear transmission track with respect to the carriage on which it is mounted or by automatically changing the relative angular position between the gear to be tested and the transmission track. All displacements of apparatus components for the coarse and fine positioning as well as for the performance of the measuring process proper are automatically effected by the program-controlled control and computer unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1982Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Willy HoflerInventors: Willi Meder, Hans-Ulrich Bertz, Peter Golder

Patent number: 4519182Abstract: An article wrapper for an article, or plurality of articles in at least one row, is formed from an elongated blank having a top panel, a pair of side panels connected to the top panel along fold lines, and a pair of bottom panels with each of the bottom panels connected to the adjacent side panels at two score lines. Compression tabs are positioned between the bottom score lines to allow tightening of the wrapper by squeeze guides. The bottom panels are arranged in overlapping relation and secured to each other by an adhesive, for example, after tightening the wrapper. The uppermost bottom score line adjacent each of the side panels enables a right angle corner to be formed at the bottom of each of the side panels so that each of the side panels presents an uninterrupted surface. The tabs are tucked under the bottom so as to be hidden from view.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1982Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Certipak CorporationInventors: John K. Lever, Angelo N. Patent number: 4519183Abstract: A sheet of flexible material such as fabric or plastic is provided with flaps, loops and ties so that it can be laid over a pile of loose material with rigid sticks attached to loops along two parallel edges of the sheet and the rigid sticks can be grasped by the user and forced together between the surface and the material forming an open ended envelope containing the material which is then turned over and the flaps at the end of the envelope pulled up and tied over the ends to close the envelope while the two sides made rigid by the sticks are tied together. Then the sticks may be removed leaving the flexible sheet formed into an envelope that encloses the material and so forming a bag containing the material for disposal.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Inventor: Ross Parody

Patent number: 4519185Abstract: In order to realize a device for the deflection of a continuous film web folded in its axial midline in a packaging machine for wrapping a number of sequentially fed objects in which the two film web halves, making flat contact with each other, are fed in a vertical plane located parallel to the feed direction of the objects and are separated in a roof-like manner along a ridge edge extending parallel to the feed direction--and in order to obtain an adaptation to objects of different size vertical to the feed plane on the edges of a guide extending parallel to the feed direction, it is proposed that the guide comprise two guide rails parallel to the feed direction which are inserted opposite to the feed direction into the space between the two roof areas and the top layer and which by their free ends define the lower corners of the triangular area, and that the spacing of the guide rails as well as the vertical distance between the guide elements defining the ridge edge and the guide rails are adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1982Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Beck & Co., PackautomatenInventors: Roland Horn, Erhardt Glausch

Patent number: 4519186Abstract: A device for slipping segments of film, such as originally flattened but tubular segments of plastic film, on vessels such as bottles. A rotor rotates about a horizontal axis. Sucker devices mounted on swivel arms and expanding mandrels are arranged alternately about the circumference of the rotor. The flat sleeve segments are fed toward the rotor and are attracted by a sucker device. As the rotor rotates from the position in which a sleeve is gripped by a sucker device the sucker parts spread to open the tubular sleeve and the arm carrying the sucker is caused to swing and turn the sleeve segment 90.degree. whereupon the sleeve is passed over the presently unexpanded mandrel which is circumferentially adjacent the designated arm and its suckers. The mandrel is caused to expand for holding the sleeve and the sucker is timely released.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Krones Aktiengesellschaft Hermann Kronseder MaschinenfabrikInventors: Horst Winter, Erich Eder

Patent number: 4519187Abstract: A nose guard for preventing flies and other insects entering the nose of an animal includes a generally cylindrical body with a cup-shaped bottom end formed of a material having sufficient flexibility to be folded for packaging or storage, and being sufficiently rigid that the guard retains substantially the shape given to it when unfolded. A hollow border is provided around the top periphery of the body for receiving a drawstring for tightening the guard on the animal's nose or bridle. The drawstring passes over the animal's head to secure the guard in position on the animal. Half flaps are provided in the top sides of one version of the guard, and full flaps on a further varient, so that the guard can be used effectively on, for example, a horse, with a western-style bit and rein arrangement, double rein Pelham bit and snaffle-bit and double bridel used in Dressage.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Inventor: Jeannette Reynolds
