  • Patent number: 4528741
Abstract: A device is disclosed for stripping insulation from the end of an insulated wire. Four identical insulation blades are provided. One pair of blades is mounted on one pivotable arm while a second pair of blades is mounted on a second pivotable arm. The blades on each arm are inverted relative to each other so that the beveled surfaces of the blades which form the cutting edges face in opposite directions, and the beveled surfaces of the blades of the respective pairs which face in the same direction are opposite to each other. This arrangement provides a balanced pattern of the cutting edges and therefore uniform cutting action on the insulation so that when the insulation is removed from the end of the wire, wire skiving is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4528770
Abstract: An artificial fishing lure which includes a pair of hooks normally disposed within a retracted position within the lure's body and movable therefrom to a position outwardly of the lure's body in response to a predetermined amount of tension being applied to a fishing line leading from the lure. For actuating said hooks, the present lure provides a flexible molded plastic bow assembly set within said lure's body and operatively interconnected between said fishing line and said hooks.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a relatively transparent, flexible hollow tube (12) having a plurality of elongated strands of tippet material (14), having a variety of diameters, positioned therein. Each of said strands of tippet material (14) being color coded to provide for ready identification of tippet material diameter. A cylindrical plug (16) is inserted at a first end of the tube (12) to retain the tippet material (14) in the tube (12). A plastic cord (20) and snap (22) are provided for attaching the tippet tube (12) to an item of one's wearing apparel while fishing.

  • Patent number: 4528773
Abstract: A method for producing genes conferring resistance to herbicides, growth regulators or other chemical agents in vascular plants is disclosed. Mutagenized spores of ferns of the genus Ceratopteris are grown in the presence of a herbicide, growth regulator, or other chemical agent and resistant mutant gametophytes are selected. Self-fertilization in the selected mutant gametophytes yields homozygous diploid sporophytes which also exhibit resistance. The sporophytes grown to maturity yield mutant spores having identical haploid genotypes which are grown to confirm the existence of resistance to the herbicide, growth regulator, or other chemical agent. The method produces vascular plant genes conferring resistance to the herbicide, growth regulator or other chemical agent.

  • Patent number: 4528774
Abstract: An organic growing medium for plants or seeds placed in standing water having substantially all the major and minor fertilizer elements is exposed to humid air over its substantial outer side surface thereby making air available to plant roots. The growing medium may be in a pot having porous sidewalls which allows air to be admitted into the pot or air openings may be formed in the pot sidewalls. The pot may further sit in a container wherein an air passageway is formed between the container and the pot to provide humid air around the growing medium. Alternately, the growing medium may be spaced from the container wall having air openings and an air chamber is formed between the growing medium and the container wall.

  • Patent number: 4528775
Abstract: A sealing means for a door lacking a threshold comprises a lath of resilient material, which with a substantially plane main portion is attached to the lower edge of door leaf. A head, enlarged with respect to the main portion, is provided with sealing ridges and may be bent in relation to the attachment of the lath, so the ridges will be forced towards the floor. An actuating member, comprising a longitudinally compressible leaf spring, is fitted between the lower edge of the door leaf and the head of the lath, so it extends outside the vertical hinge edge of the door leaf. Just before the door reaches its closed position the leaf spring contacts the door frame, and will then force the portion of the head adjacent to the hinge edge downwards. During the terminal portion of the closing movement the friction between the floor and the downwardly turned portions of the ridges will "roll" the head to full contact with the floor.

  • Patent number: 4528776
Abstract: A reversible d.c. torque motor advances and retracts a cone mechanism for radially expanding and contracting the stones of a tool for honing a bore in a workpiece. The motor is adapted to advance the cone mechanism at three different speeds so as to effect expansion of the tool first at a rapid traverse rate, then at a slower coarse feed rate and then at a still slower fine feed rate. Pulses representative of changes in position of the cone mechanism are routed to and are counted by a reversible counter which causes the cone mechanism to retract to different starting positions as the stones of the tool wear and reduce the effective diameter of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4528778
Abstract: An apparatus for holding a blade of an implement while sharpening an edge thereon with a rotating sharpening wheel. The blade is carried by a blade holder which is, in turn, supported on a vertically extending bracket. The angle that the blade holder is supported on the bracket can be readily adjustable. A pair of opposed vertically extending posts are provided on the bracket so that the entire holder can be rotated for presenting the edge of the blade to different directions of rotation of the sharpening wheel.

  • Patent number: 4528780
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the control of the path of the grinding tool of an all-around edge grinding machine supporting a glass pane for movement about a rotational axis. The grinding tool is positively guided into contact with the edge of the glass pane as controlled by the contour of the glass pane. A scanning roller, also guided into contact with the edge of the glass panel provides the control heretofore described. Both the grinding head and scanning roller are movable in a direction toward the rotational axis of the glass pane. Path signals determined by the scanning roller are stored in a sliding register, and delayed at its output for a period of time required for movement of the glass pane through an angle which corresponds to the rotational angle (.alpha.,.beta.) between the point of contact of the scanning roller and the point of contact of the grinding tool on the edge of the glass pane. The path signals from the sliding register are used in position controlling the grinding tool.

  • Patent number: 4528781
Abstract: A method of grinding a workpiece for shaping it into a cam by imparting a rotary motion and a rocking motion, which conforms to the profile of a master cam, to the workpiece. In the first rough grinding step, a grinding wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a low velocity. In the second rough grinding step, the grinding wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a velocity greater than the low velocity. In the third rough grinding step, the wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a high velocity. Each of the three steps includes a step for removing the portion left uncut in such a state that the infeed of the wheel is ceased. The depths of cut in the three steps DS.sub.1, DS.sub.2 and DS.sub.3, respectively, are so set that the following relation holds:DS.sub.1 >DS.sub.2 >DS.sub.
