  • Patent number: 4537008
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for packing tubular bags into boxes by machinery. The tubular bags to be packed are conveyed over various conveyor belts to a positioning belt and from the positioning belt to a positioning table. Layers of tubular bags are then moved onto a rake-like main base that is lowered in a stepwise fashion to receive consecutive layers of tubular bags. When the desired number of tubular bag layers is positioned on the main base, the main base is lowered to deposit the tubular bags onto an intermediate base which together with side walls makes up an intermediate container. Once the intermediate container is in a lower position, a box is pushed over the intermediate container and the intermediate container is swung through a 90.degree. arc onto a conveyor belt. The intermediate container is then removed from the box and by this process the tubular bags which were previously in the intermediate container are transferred into the box.

  • Patent number: 4537011
Abstract: The invention provides a method of vacuum packing by defining a "dummy product" 17 alongside a product article 14 on a support sheet so that any "webbing" 18 is to the side of that projection 17 which faces away from the adjacent product article 14. That projection 17 can subsequently be trimmed to leave a webbing-free pack. Cutting down webbing reduces the risk of leakage of the pack. Preferably the height of the projection 17 is adjusted in response to the height of a product article 14 so that the extent of such webbing 18 is at a minimum.

  • Patent number: 4537016
Abstract: A form fill seal type wrapping machine uses equal speed conveyors which are start/stop controlled to accept randomly fed packages and uniformly space them for wrapping and sealing in a roll fed wrapping material such as thermoplastic film. Different length packages can be wrapped without adjustment. One embodiment uses a traveling transverse seal mechanism so the machine can run continuously. Machine speed is enhanced by controlling dwell time for the transverse seal and time of travel for the transverse seal mechanism to be no longer than required to make the seal. A fast return mechanism for the transverse seal mechanism operates at a speed independent of machine speed.
