  • Patent number: 4550448
Abstract: An improved metallic bone prosthesis having a porous coating for bone ingrowth or interlocking with bone cement is disclosed. The porous coating comprises two layers of generally ball-shaped metallic particles bonded together at their points of contact, e.g. by sintering, and defining between them a plurality of connected interstitial pores having an average pore size of from about 350 microns to about 500 microns. A high resistance to failure at the coating-substrate and bone-coating (or cement-coating) interfaces is achieved with the use of the improved prosthesis. Also disclosed are a novel method for affixing the porous coating to a metal substrate, and a knee joint prosthesis having bearing portions designed so that the function of said prosthesis closely approximates that of the natural knee.

  • Patent number: 4550451
Abstract: A locator and support for precisely locating and supporting plumbing pipes relative to structure of a building. The support includes a strap fastenable to the building structure and having a plurality of precisely located openings for receiving the pipes, the pipes being secured within the openings by an adhesive or by soldering, or by the clamping action of inserts carried by the strap and receiving the pipes. Such inserts are slotted to laterally receive the pipes, if desired, and are each characterized by a conical or tapered inner surface which spreads the skirts upon insertion of the pipes so that the radially enlarged skirts prevent separation of the inserts from both the strap and the pipes.

  • Patent number: 4550453
Abstract: A compact and portable drain having particular application to recreational vehicles such that sewage contained within a holding tank thereof can be relatively easily and efficiently emptied and disposed of at a sewage dump. The drain is connected between a drain hose and a receptacle at the exterior of the recreational vehicle. The flow of sewage through the drain is controlled by a manually operated, reciprocating valve plate which is positioned to either block or open a flow path through the drain. Thus, the valve plate can be opened so that sewage may be drained from the holding tank to a sewage dump by way of the drain and drain hose. A water inlet is also connected to the drain, so as to permit the holding tank to be flushed and cleaned via the drain once the sewage is removed from the holding tank and the valve plate is closed.

  • Patent number: 4550454
Abstract: An add-on bidet includes a moulded plastic seat (12) which has a channel-shaped cross-section. A pivoting spray-arm (108) is stowed between the toilet-bowl rim and the inside of the channel. The inner wall (16) of the seat acts as a splash guard. The spray-arm is mounted in bearings (214,102) which are formed in the walls (16,18) of the seat. The seat is able to pivot, for raising, on a pair of stubby pivot pins (36,38) widely spaced apart. One (38) is hollow, to convey water to the seat. There are no exposed hose pipes or other obtrusive components. The water control knobs (70,71,76) are accessibly located. Water leaves the spray-head (116) as a coherent tube of water, which gives rise to a soft, gentle stream, whether the flow volume is large or small. This is achieved by deflecting jets of water from nozzles so that the jets coalesce back into a stream.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a gang head for a replaceable gang head type machine tool. The machine tool includes a base, a jig table, a driving member mounted on the base and movable to an advance and retract with respect to the jig table, and an annular rail surrounding the driving member. The annular rail has a rear stationary rail and a movable front rail, the movable rail movable to advance and retract with respect to the jig table along the same direction as the driving member. The gang head comprises a base frame mounted on the movable rail, a working unit mounted on the base frame, wherein the working unit is inclined at an angle other than a right angle, with respect to the direction of advance and retraction of the movable rail, an oil pressure pump, and an oil pressure operated cylinder. The oil pressure cylinder being operatively coupled to the working unit for advancing and retracting the working unit with respect to the jig table.

  • Patent number: 4550490
Abstract: A method of producing an integrated insulated-gate field-effect transistor with an increased breakdown voltage provides in that at least one of the two zones, i.e. the source zone and/or the drain zone is surrounded by a relatively high-ohmic partial zone. This partial zone or the partial zones are first produced by way of ion implantation with the aid of a first implantation mask. After removal of this mask, the entire area of the field-effect transistor is covered with an oxidation masking layer comprising several selectively etchable partial layers, of which the lower partial layer is finally exposed and serves as the gate insulating layer. With the aid of the photoresist mask serving as an etching mask, openings are etched through the oxidation masking layer. The photoresist mask, together with the portions of the oxidation masking layer remaining therebelow, is used as an ion implantation mask for manufacturing both the source zone and the drain zone.

The operator is manufactured from a low-doped P-type substrate on which are successively implanted a highly-doped P-type layer and a highly-doped N-type layer. Below a metallic collector contact of the NPN transistor of the SFL operator, the structure successively comprises an epitaxial N-layer, an average-doped R-type layer and a highly-doped N-type layer. This structure is compatible with the manufacturing on the same silicon chip of both SFL operators and classical linear bipolar transistors.

Abstract: Batch practices of magnetic film deposition and circuit structuring are merged upon a common semiconductor substrate (chip) for both circuit and head parts. As to any one head being formed, the substrate is suitably doped and metallized to form electronics designed for cooperation with such head; then, thin films (cores) of magnetic material are deposited on the semiconductor substrate for cooperation with the electronics. After the thin film head cores are appropriately gapped, a (common) yoke is brought into contact with them . . . the substrate being thereafter contoured through its underside to expose the thin film core gaps.

Abstract: A machine for forming a head and a bulge on a copper pin and to connect the pin to a ceramic substrate by a single application of impact force at high velocity and controlled energy conditions includes an air cylinder within which a piston of controlled mass moves due to the effect of compressed air stored in an accumulator. A die block includes a two dimensional array of holes into which are fitted pin blanks that extend above the surface of the die block and on which is fitted a substrate having an identical array of pin holes formed therein. The pins are fitted within the die block and on the substrate such that a predetermined length of the pin blank extends above the surface of the substrate and a controlled length of the pin blanks extends between the substrate and the die block. The pins are retained within the die against axial movement and the holes in the substrate and die block provide radial restraint to the pins following the application of the impact force.
