  • Patent number: 4553281
Abstract: A side and heel lasting machine. The machine serves to adhere the unwiped margin of a shoe upper assembly, whose toe portion has been wiped, to the periphery region of the assembly insole. Lasting pads are employed to keep the margin in position during application of adhesive from nozzles that are spring loaded to press outwardly and track the upstanding margin when adhesive is applied in the region between the insole and the margin. The pads are then raised and urged inwardly to press the margin onto the insole. The top edge of inner lasting pads are folded onto the insole to achieve during wiping action; the direction of forces upon the top edges of the lasting pads is changed during wiping to increase downward wiping forces upon the margin. A quick-release mechanism is provided to permit removal and replacement of the lasting pads without need to remove any screw-type fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4553316
Abstract: A MESFET is fabricated using a self-aligned gate process. This process uses a vertical (anisotropic) etch to self-align the gate and source/drain. The vertical etch, in conjunction with a two-level insulator, creates a barrier between the gate and source/drain, so that when metal is deposited and reacted, and any excess removed, the gate is selfaligned with the source/drain, and contacts to the source/drain and gate are well isolated. The alignment obtained by this process is advantageous in that series channel resistance is reduced, and a more compact structure is attained for improvement in packing density.

Abstract: Apparatus for connecting the ends of stator windings to stator supply terminals comprises a stator holding device which holds a wound stator with each winding end held by a holding element and an insertion and clamping device which is displaceable toward the stator holding device and which comprises a tong-like gripper for each winding end which is swivelable toward and away and laterally with respect to the stator holding device 2 under variable tension. The grippers engage the winding ends and displace them into the respective supply terminals, whereupon the terminals are clamped by a clamping device.

  • Patent number: 4553320
Abstract: A method of making a rotor, for a dynamo-electric machine, which has a number of arcuately formed rectangular loop coils arranged edgewise in a cylindrical configuration, employs injection moulding. Moulding material is injected between adjacent coils and penetrates between and around them to form an encapsulating framework. Entry of moulding material into the central apertures of the coils is prevented by inserts. By directing the moulding material inwardly, and spacing the coils slightly from the mould core, encapsulant also penetrates behind the coil faces to form a thin skin. By use of a shutter member, which may be an integral end cap, coil terminations can be led out of the mould cavity through apertures in the shutter to protect them from damage during the moulding process.

  • Patent number: 4553321
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the production of armatures for small electric motors is provided wherein the armatures are clamped in specially designed workpiece holders and continuously processed in successive work stations. The stations may include an armature loading station, a collector pressure-fitting station, a winding station, a welding station, an electrical testing station and an armature discharge station. The transportation of the workpiece holders through the apparatus is effected by a revolving conveyor belt which moves the workpiece holders individually or in groups to the successive work stations. At each work station, the workpiece holder is raised from the conveyor belt, secured in the work station, and connected by clutch devices to corresponding actuating devices within the work station.

  • Patent number: 4553322
Abstract: An apparatus is provided to enable a press to automatically apply an electrical connector to a printed circuit board. A locator block is secured to a floating pin holder plate which is mounted to a press ram, the connector is placed in position and partially inserted on the board and the board is secured and accurately disposed below the locator block. The locator block has a recess which surrounds the connector when the locator is lowered by the ram, urges the connector to the vertical and in turn urges the floating plate a slight but important two-dimensional horizontal increment to be precisely positioned and oriented with the connector. When the position of the locator block/floating plate assembly is thus adjusted, the locator block retracts exposing push pins mounted in the floating plate which enter cavities in the connector, engage the terminals therein, and push the terminals fully into plated through-holes of the board.

  • Patent number: 4553324
Abstract: A machine for connecting successive rows of coil springs together into a coil spring assembly. The machine, in preferred form, initially picks up a row of coil springs by inserting a pick up finger into the barrel of each coil and moving the springs onto a support platen. In the course of transporting the coils between pick up and the support platen, the pick up fingers change the spacing of the coils. The springs are then compressed against the support platen to a desired height through use of a reciprocable compression bar. Thereafter, and through use of rotatable transfer fingers on a transfer shaft, the springs are removed from under the compression bar, and are moved into clamping dies. Leading rotary transfer fingers on the transfer shaft first pull the row of springs out from under the compression bar, and trailing rotary fingers then push the springs into the downstream one of upper and lower clamping dies.

  • Patent number: 4553326
Abstract: A chain saw safety braking assembly includes a sensing arm pivotally mounted to the housing and having a protrusion. A portion of the sensing arm is located in front of the gripping handle and is arranged to move from a first position to a second position in response to being struck by an appendage of the operator. A flexible brake band is disposed around the peripheral surface of a brake drum, and includes a first end anchored to the housing and a second end coupled to the sensing arm protrusion, such that when the sensing arm moves from the first position to the second position the flexible brake band is moved from a position free of the brake drum to a frictional braking relationship with the brake drum. A latch is rotatably mounted to the housing and is adapted to releasably engage the protrusion on the sensing arm. A spring anchored to the housing cooperates with the latch such that the latch yieldably holds the sensing arm in either the first or the second position.
