  • Patent number: 4558557
Abstract: The apparatus has a strip cutting device (6) in which the sheet piles (1) are cut into bundle strips (8), a bundle cutting device (16) for cutting the bundle strips into banknote bundles (17) and therebetween a banding station (9) for the bundle strips (8). This banding station (9) has as many synchronously operating banding devices (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d) as there are banknote positions per strip and a band detector system (30,31,32) which indicates the absence of a band (10) or an incorrectly performed banding operation by means of a fault signal which switches off the apparatus. Simultaneously an indication is given at which individual banding device (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d) the fault has occured. Each of these banding devices can be set in operation by means of an associated switch member (34a, 34b, 34c, 34d) for carrying out an individual late banding operation. Then the apparatus can be restarted to continue the automatic operation.

  • Patent number: 4558559
Abstract: Lawn clippings are pelletized and distributed back onto the lawn directly, for example, as part of a mowing operation. For this purpose the lawn clippings are supplied into the top of a chamber wherein compression rollers press the clippings through a stationary apertured plate for extruding the clippings in the form of compressed strands. A rotating distribution disk is arranged below the plate for breaking up the strands into pellets and for throwing or distributing the pellets over the lawn as it is being mowed. The pressure applied to the grass clippings is adjusted to be sufficient for the extrusion, but insufficient for squeezing the natural juices out of the grass clippings. To avoid clogging and positive extrusion at all times during the operation, the compression rollers are preferably driven positively by a double drive system for rotation about a vertical and horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 4558560
Abstract: A crop harvesting machine having a pivoted drawbar forwardly extending harvesting apparatus is disclosed wherein the drawbar can be positioned in a transversely extending direction to permit a transportation of the harvester in a transverse direction when mounted on a mobile carrier. A support plate on which stops are provided to limit the operative range of pivotal movement of the drawbar is selectively movable to change the position of the stops relative to the frame of the harvester and permit the drawbar to be pivoted to a transversely extending position. By positioning the harvester upon a mobile carrier the harvester can be transported in a transverse direction without disconnecting the drawbar from the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 4558561
Abstract: A mechanical fruit picker includes a vacuum-operated picking tube which is operably mounted to a tractor and which is designed to pick and deliver fruit to a trailer pulled behind the tractor. The vacuum in the tube is created by a blower mounted to the power take-off of the tractor, while foam rubber paddles are provided within the tube to slow the movement and thus prevent bruising of the fruit. An operator using the tube stands on a platform which is hydraulically adjustable in both horizontal and vertical directions and which is mounted on the top of the tractor. The tube is selectively retractible and extensible at both ends so as to facilitate the picking of fruit in difficult to reach locations and to control the distance that the fruit must fall into the fruit storage trailer. The trailer must be lined with foam rubber to further lessen the likelihood of the fruit damage during the picking operation.

  • Patent number: 4558566
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an exhaust system of an internal-combustion engine includes a resonance chamber having its terminating end closed and communicating with an intermediate portion of an exhaust passage of the engine, and a stop valve provided at the inlet of the resonance chamber for opening or closing the inlet in a predetermined operation region of the engine. The stop valve is actuated to effect its opening/closing operation in accordance with a predetermined operation region of the engine by means of a governor mechanism actuated in response to the rotation of a crankshaft of the engine. Through the opening/closing control effected by the stop valve, the natural frequency of the exhaust system is controlled in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine, thereby allowing the intake efficiency of the engine to be raised over a wide operation range, from low speed to high speed. Accordingly, a high output is maintained at all times.

  • Patent number: 4558581
Abstract: A strip (10) of delicate foil is advanced longitudinally along a substantially flat path such as along a platen (104) for printing patterns of lead clusters (12) in photoresist on the foil. A margin (28) of strip (10) is formed into a guiding member such as a standing ridge (98), leaving a residue portion (29) in a desirably flat condition. Ridge (98) has a convenient reference edge (102) and a structural angle is formed by ridge (98) with adjacent foil portions. Such angle is sufficiently strong that advancing strip (10) receives no unacceptable deformation as the reference edge (102) is contacted such as to a reference wall (100) for guidance. Strip (10) is biased so the reference edge (102) maintains contact with guiding apparatus so located that the strip follows the desired path. For example, a flat member (122) is biased downward upon the residue portions (29) of strip (10) and the flat path while a side of member (122) is biased against ridge (98) and the reference wall (100).

  • Patent number: 4558589
Abstract: An ultrasonic coagulation monitor for measurement of prothrombin times and related coagulation times includes at least one piezoelectric crystal operated at a fixed frequency near its resonant frequency. A sample of material to be analyzed is placed in acoustic communication with the crystal. The voltage across the crystal is monitored in order to detect a voltage change, preferably a drop, that occurs upon coagulation of the sample. A timer is included that is turned off at a predetermined voltage drop corresponding to a particular stage of coagulation desired to be timed. In an alternative embodiment of the invention a second crystal is included and is mounted a predetermined distance from the first crystal to define a cavity therebetween. One crystal is driven by the frequency oscillator circuit and the material the coagulation of which is to be measured is placed in the cavity. A voltage sensing device senses the voltage across the second crystal and controls a timer as in the first embodiment.

Abstract: An enthalpy control circuit has a humidity responsive capacitive element in one leg of a bridge circuit and a temperature responsive resistance element in another leg. The circuit is powered by a pulsating DC voltage of 1 kilohertz frequency for providing DC output, from an integrator connected to the output of the bridge circuit, indicative of enthalpy. A feedback from an integrator output to the bridge circuit is provided by chopping the DC output into appropriate AC for rebalance. Another feedback circuit around an amplifier provides a reference point compensated for offset voltages brought about by conditions such as temperature affecting circuit components.

  • Patent number: 4558596
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for monitoring the bond condition of a fine aluminum wire being ultrasonically bonded to an electrode pad. The apparatus comprises a counter for generating a start and stop signal indicative of a predetermined plurality of cycles from the ultrasonic generator of the ultrasonic bonder. A stable source of pulses is applied to a second counter which is started and stopped by the start and stop signal. The count stored in the second counter is read out to a microprocessor and is indicative of the frequency of the ultrasonic generator during the bonding operation. A plurality of frequency readings are taken and measured during the formation of an ultrasonic wedge bond and this information is employed to calculate a bond quality rating which accurately predicts whether a good bond has been made or some condition exists indicating that a good bond has not been made.

  • Patent number: 4558600
Abstract: A force transducer has (1) a pair of opposed rigid-body force summing members that each include a sensor member and (2) a pair of beam members that each extend between and couple the force summing members. These sensor members have opposing sensing portions which are mutually offset. A force-to-be-measured is applied to a summing member, either directly or through a rigid input force member. The force deforms the beams so that the sensing members are displaced with respect to each other while maintaining their parallel relationship. In one form the entire force transducer is formed from a single piece of material. A conductive material coated on a pair of small ceramic inserts that are bonded to the sensor portions form an accurate capacitor to measure the applied force. In another form, the sensor members are secured to the flexible beams.
