  • Patent number: 4641402
Abstract: A branch-off seal between a recoverable sleeve and two or more substrates is effected using a clip the outer legs of which are positioned over the outer surface of the sleeve so as to form an appropriate number of conduits. The clip is provided with an inner leg comprising a heat-activatable sealing material and a heat-conductive member or region. The dimensional integrity of the member or region weakens on activation of the sealing material. Thus the amount of heat or mechanical rigidity between the substrate is limited.

  • Patent number: 4641418
Abstract: A novel lead frame structure is provided which contains an integral arrangement of leads for connection to a semiconductor device and a molded housing is then molded around the semiconductor device and the lead frame. The lead elements of the frame are then separated to define a plurality of individual semiconductor devices. The lead frame has an enlarged finger section which receives a semiconductor die. The enlarged lead frame finger has an opening just behind the region which receives the die. This opening as well as all identical openings along the length of the lead strip are then aligned with respective molding gates in one half of a pair of cooperating molding dies so that plastic injected through the gate flows through the opening and upwardly into the mold with the plastic filling the mold cavity from top to bottom while ejecting air from the mold as the mold fills through the clearance opening between the ejector pin and its receiving opening.

  • Patent number: 4641420
Abstract: Contacting an underlying region (e.g., doped silicon) through an access hole in an overlying dielectric layer (e.g., p-glass) formerly required flowing the dielectric to smooth the edges of the hole, so that aluminum would deposit smoothly into the hole. The present technique smoothes the side of the hole by forming a smoothing region on the sidewall. Improved aluminum coverage results, as well as allowing a smaller contact head, if desired. Improved contact resistance can be optionally provided by depositing a more conductive layer on the underlying layer prior to forming the sidewall.

  • Patent number: 4641431
Abstract: A new electric hedge trimmer utilizes an innovative metal wire whip, rotating at high speed inside a dish-shaped whip and chip guard, to cut hedge, bushes, vine and other relatively large-stemmed foliage effectively, safely and conveniently, as described above and as facilitated by a system of switches and handles. The wire whip can be constructed from any one of several metals, alloys or space-age composite wires to enhance performance and durability. However, scrap copper wire has been used to cut hedge five times faster and better than existing methods such as plastic monofilament or heavy metal blade cutters. For optimum performance, the wire whip is rotated at speeds in the order of 10,000 to 20,000 RPM which are easily attainable by modern motors. A close-coupled loop handle, a self-storing extension handle and a substitute extension handle provide for use of the device on low, medium or high growing foliage.

  • Patent number: 4641435
Abstract: A straight edge stock is lockable at any desired location along the length of a steel rule with the stock and rule forming perpendicular straight edges. The stock includes an integral protractor triangle projecting from a thicker barrel of the stock and having a hypotenuse edge extending generally from the bottom of the stock barrel angularly toward the rule. The margin of the protractor triangle adjacent to its hypotenuse edge has a scale of angle calibration markings indicating the angle of a line connecting each individual marking and the top of the leading edge of the thicker stock barrel.

  • Patent number: 4641436
Abstract: A transparent ruler with a U-shaped slot, a multiplicity of separate scales, and reference numbers. The scales are exactly perpendicular to each other, with one being horizontal and the others being vertical. Three slots are on the ruler, two of which are parallel with the vertical scales and one of which is parallel to the horizontal scale. The slots intersect so as to form one big square U-shaped slot. There are arrows on the top and side edges of the ruler which are collinear with the slots. These arrows are used for reference purposes when extending a line, squaring a line with respect to another line, etc. The vertical scales are used to draw perfectly parallel lines with respect to the horizontal slot.

  • Patent number: 4641438
Abstract: An athletic shoe for running is disclosed. The shoe has a tread design of triangular faced, slope-sided, prism-shaped, canted studs arranged in a pattern which limits and controls impact forces conducted to the foot. A set of triangular, prism-shaped stabilizer pins molded laterally into and across the outersole protects the metatarsal bones and helps to propel the foot into the next step. Tetrahedral lateral heel stabilizers control lateral roll of the ankle area and pyramidal buttress supports at the stabilizer end reduce impact shock to the metatarsal area. An interior sole further reduces impact forces and an interior lining directs perspiration away from the foot.

  • Patent number: 4641439
Abstract: The invention comprises an apparatus for digging obstructions out of the ground. The apparatus has a first frame adapted to be attached to the framework of a three point hitch connection on a tractor. The hitch connection has hydraulic means to raise and lower the hitch whereby the hitch will raise and lower the first frame. The apparatus has a second frame pivotally mounted to the first frame with digging members fixed on the second frame. The apparatus has hydraulic means for pivoting said second frame on its pivotal mounting to an angle whereby the first frame may be lowered and the digging members may be engaged into the ground at an angle to penetrate beneath an obstruction and may be pivoted upward to lift the obstruction out of the ground, a hook is pivotally mounted on said second frame to pivot down over said rock digging members to secure a rock on said members.

Abstract: A map holder for automotive vehicles comprising a transparent cover and a bottom plate adapted to receive a map therebetween. A telescopic pointer is slidably and pivotally secured on the bar which is mounted on the bottom plate. This arrangement allows tracing a route and pinpointing the actual location of the vehicle on the map. A non-permanent marker is used to apply a route on the transparent cover. After the desired destination is reached, the marking on the transparent cover is erased by a soft paper tissue or the like.

Abstract: A display unit for displaying indicia such as advertising material has a light box in which there are a series of lights. The box has a reflective surface capable of passing light outwardly from inside the box but reflecting light applied exteriorly of the surface. Indicia are mounted within the box carrying translucent and washed areas. Lighting of the lights displays the indicia and extinguishing the lights results in a mirrored surface only being apparent.Modification include making the masked areas of a reflective material to give a repeated reflection effect when the lights are lit.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a multisided, multicolored display which includes an enclosure with a plurality of translucent light scattering sides, top and bottom. A plurality of light sources are positioned in a spaced apart relationship to radiate sufficiently to illuminate all of the light scattering sides. Each of the light sources is of a different color, and the radiation from each source overlaps radiation from the other sources on the light scattering sides. A plurality of symbols may be interposed between the light sources and the light scattering sides to create colored images. Each of the enclosures represents a module, wherein several discrete modules are structured in a matrix fashion, and the entire matrix comprises the display.
