  • Patent number: 4685237
Abstract: The retractable swivel stud which extends to allow the attachment of a detachable gun sling swivel and strap to a firearm; and when force from the thumb or finger tip is exerted on the textured top surface of the spring-loaded stud, the stud retracts into the gunstock to a flush position and is retained there by means of symmetrically disposed slots, thus, leaving the stock free of protrusions, holes, or slots. The retracted position is retained by rotating the stud ninety-degrees in a clockwise direction, allowing the retaining device to enter detents in the sleeve's cylinder. The reversal of the foregoing procedure will extend the stud and retain it in the extended position. This movement is facilitated by the use of the spring which exerts pressure on the base of the stud at one end and the bottom of the hole in the stock at the other.

  • Patent number: 4685252
Abstract: A reciprocating sander particularly adapted for sanding remote surfaces such as ceilings and walls is provided by concentrating a substantial part of the weight of the sander in a motor assembly. A lightweight extension tube extends from the motor assembly to a universal joint which in turn is coupled to a sanding attachment. The sanding attachment includes clips which secures a piece of sandpaper in an mechanism for converting angular rotation of the universal joint into relative reciprocating motion of a sanding plate and sandpaper with respect to the sanding attachment. By bringing relative force between the sanding attachment and the motor assembly, a resiliently retained driving rod within the extension tube, which is coupled to the universal joint and sanding attachment, is forced downwardly in the extension tube toward the motor assembly. This ultimately causes two clutch parts to engage thereby permitting the transmission of the motive force to the sanding attachment.

  • Patent number: 4685253
Abstract: The structural member of the present invention includes a pressure tube either having a cable tensioned between its ends or being mounted within an outer member. The pressure tube is mounted such that it can move axially with respect to the cable or the outer tube. When the tube is pressurized, some of the force is absorbed in hoop stress in the tube, and some of the force is directed to the ends of the pressure tube and to the cable or the outer member either through a piston arrangement or otherwise. When compressive loads are placed on the system, it can support force up to the preload without exhibiting Euler buckling. The system is useful for long, thin columns and for long beams where ridgidity is important. The pressure tube is not subject to compressive loading because its ends are free to move axially without compressing the tube. The pressure tube may be wrapped in high tensile strength unidirectional fiber material to withstand higher hoop strees.

  • Patent number: 4685267
Abstract: A reinforced fiberboard box for creating a void in and under concrete formations. A single piece of double faced, corrugated fiberboard is defined by a face, a bottom, a pair of end flaps, and a pair of side flaps. The end flaps are folded into at least four uniformly shaped partitions which are subsequently folded onto the face of the fiberboard and are aligned along the longitudinal axis to create a box-like structure. Pairs of side flaps are then wrapped around the sides and top of the partitions to form a completely closed, internally reinforced, box-like structure. A portion of the side flaps are tucked inwardly, intersecting the partitions so that slots in the side flaps interlock with slots in the partitions which prevents the box void from unfolding during use.

  • Patent number: 4685271
Abstract: A packaging and dispensing system for pills and like objects includes a rectangular, box-like housing preferably made of metal or other durable material. On the floor of the housing is a sliding template which is equipped with three or more spaced-apart parallel rails to receive between them the rows of blisters on a fold-over drug card. A second, removable template provided with a plurality of holes is superimposed over the sliding template to create a space between the second template and the tops of the rails to receive the fold-over card. The fold-over drug card is inserted between the two templates through an opening at one end of the housing and positioned so that the blisters in the card are not aligned with the holes in the upper template. A spreader is used to spread the pills along the length of the second template, dropping one or more pills into each hole in the second template.
