  • Patent number: 4723344
Abstract: A method of processing textile fiber includes the steps of removing fiber tufts from fiber bale tops by a fiber bale opening device by effecting a travel of the opening device back-and-forth above serially arranged fiber bales to execute consecutive opening passes; lowering the opening device prior to each opening pass for adapting the opening device to the height level of the fiber bale tops; introducing the fiber tufts removed by the bale opener into a fiber storage device; conveying the fiber tufts from the fiber storage device to a successive processing station; and varying the duration of the opening passes by varying the travelling speed of the opening device. The travelling speed is varied as a function of a fiber quantity requirement by a fiber processing machine forming part of a fiber processing line and being supplied by fiber, at least indirectly, by the fiber bale opening device.

  • Patent number: 4723355
Abstract: Superconductors having a high proportion of stabilization material are produced by first forming a composite member composed of pieces of stabilization material and rods of stabilization material containing cores of superconductive material and this composite member is deformed to reduce the cross section by extrusion and drawing. To increase the proportion of stabilization material, the composite material is subsequently introduced into an enveloping tube composed of stabilization material and the resulting assembly is deformed to final dimensions by means of further drawing processes. Breaks of the superconductive filaments are avoided by providing adequate amounts of stabilization material in the central region of the composite member. The result is that filament superconductors having a high proportion of stabilization material can be manufactured at a relatively low cost.

Abstract: An examination unit which is particularly suitable as an ophthalmologic examination unit for the examination of a patient by an ophthalmologist, comprises a storage region for an examination apparatus, wherein the storage region is defined by a wall, and an opening in the wall for passing the examination apparatus therethrough from the storage region. In order to ensure an easy transfer of the examination unit to the patient a support frame is provided in the storage region having a pivot bearing with a pivot axis. A swivel arm is pivotable around the pivot axis from a rest position in which the swivel arm is positioned within the storage region, into an operating position in which the swivel arm has the free end thereof laterally swung out of the storage region through the opening. Furthermore, the examination apparatus is suspended at the free end of the swivel arm.

Abstract: Building structures based on polygonal members with coplanar straight edges and icosahedral symmetry. The building structures comprise a set of ten elementary polygonal members, including four triangular members and six parallelogram-shaped members, that are combined to form tetrahedral, octahedral and half-octahedral or trucated tetrahedral, cuboctahedral and truncated octahedral or rhombohedral and parallelpiped building members that in turn fill a three-dimensional space periodically or non-periodically. The orientation of the building members is such that all edges are parallel to the fifteen two-fold axes of rotation of icosahedral symmetry.

Abstract: A molded roof section for use with dwelling units includes a domed main body portion which is arranged with a leading edge, an opposite trailing edge, and two side edges. The leading edge is configured with strengthening ribs and a defined groove while the trailing edge also including strengthening ribs is configured with a tongue such that the leading edge of one roof section may be assembled to the trailing edge of the contiguous roof section by a tongue-in-groove assembly concept. The side edges of said roof section are arranged with downwardly opening channels which are spaced so as to correspond to the spacing between dwelling unit side walls. Each roof section is molded of a high-density polymer foam as a homogeneous, unitary member and each roof section may be easily and readily lifted in place and lowered onto the side walls such the side walls fit into the downwardly opening channels of each section.

  • Patent number: 4723384
Abstract: In order to decrease the number of different structural elements required and to expedite the assembly of a rapid-construction framework as a support structure for ceilings and wall plates of a building, modular connections are used, each having four shaped guide bars, for connection of supports with tie bars of the rapid-construction framework, which are brought into force- and form-locking engagement with the hollow spaces of the supports or hollow main elements at the ends of the tie bars, for the assembly of the framework. Main elements, which are hollow on the tie bar side, are of the same dimensions and are welded in the same manner to the ends of the tie bars. A leveling member 40 is of diameter to that of the supports.

  • Patent number: 4723386
Abstract: A vaulted skylight apparatus provides modular skylight panel having a pair of first and second spaced apart, generally parallel, sheets of flexible material with an insulating air space therebetween. The modular panel can be curved by cold forming so that the panels can conform to a network of structural tubing, forming a quarter round vault, a half round vault, a structural barrel vault, or the like. The sheets are supported peripherally by a frame which includes first and second frame members that are affixed respectively to the first and second panels forming a seal therewith. The first and second frame members are movably connected, holding the first and second frame members together during simultaneous cold forming of the first and second sheets into the desired curved vaulted position as aforedescribed.

In the batch operation, a single vessel for receiving and pressuring slurry is provided and this vessel goes off line, to be recharged with slurry, when it has disgorged its contents to the nozzle. In the continuous operation, a pair of such vessels are provided, and one supplies the nozzle with slurry while the other, having been emptied, is recharged with slurry; valves switch therebetween, to put a re-charged vessel on line, and an emptied one re-charging, to maintain a continuous slurry input for the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4723390
Abstract: A method and apparatus for tensioning or drawing taut a plastic bag or packaging around a product prior to sealing is disclosed. The apparatus operates in combination with presently available conveying means and packaging sealing means. The apparatus includes a housing to support and contain a pair of conical brushes having rotational axes parallel to the direction of travel of the conveyor belt. The conical brushes rotate in opposite directions so as to draw excess packaging material into the nip formed by the tip of the brushes to smooth away wrinkles and/or folds. A transport and gripping belt then closes the bag and moves it past a pair of cylindrical shaped brushes which may be on the same shaft as the conical brushes. The cylindrical brushes draw the packaging material tight or taut around the product in a manner suitable for sealing.
