    Abstract: A lint removal apparatus having a length of adhesive coated tape wound upon a cylindrical core which is rotatably carried by a two-piece handle assembly. Each successive layer, or winding, of adhesive tape is provided with a diagonally extending cut which extends partially, but not completely, across the width of the winding. With this construction, an uncut band of material is formed proximate one edge of the core. As each successive winding is stripped from the core as the winding becomes contaminated, the uncut band of the winding will tear automatically causing a tab of the underlying winding to be upraised. In this way, a tab of the winding of adhesive tape will always be upraised after the removal of the contaminated layer of tape to facilitate removal of the next winding as it becomes contaminated.

    Abstract: For reducing the diameter of any axially limited part of a metal tube, that part is heated externally by an annular heater while at least the adjacent part or parts of the metal tube are being cooled and held at a temperature sufficiently low to limit the free thermal expanison of the heated part. On cooling, the part that has been heated becomes less in diameter than the other portions of the metal tube. The complete length of the metal tube can likewise be reduced in diameter by moving the annular heater and the metal tube relative to each other in the longitudinal direction of the tube from one end to the other while at least the adjacencies of the part being heated are being cooled as by water. The same method is adaptable for the fabrication of wear-resistant dual wall pipe for the transportation of fluids, as is also disclosed herein.

    Abstract: A cutting device for a cutting machine comprises a chain guided in translation along a cutting plane by a chain guide and has cutting tools arranged alternately on either side of the cutting plane. Each cutting tool has a curved cutting end, which curves towards the outside of the cutting plane and defines a concave surface. A scraper is positioned on either side and in the vicinity of the chain guide and cutting tools parallel to the cutting plane, said scraper having two ends projecting towards said plane, each having a convex surface complementary to the concave surface, so that said ends remove cutting waste from the tools during the passage of the tools on the scraper. The cutting device is especially useful for cutting soft, sticking, or dirtying materials.

    Abstract: An apparatus for contacting solids with gases, preferably a needle coke preheater, which includes an elongated housing having an entrance and an exit and means for introducing solids into the entrance of the housing. A bed support divides the housing into an upper chamber and a lower chamber and is declined from the horizontal at an angle such that the solids introduced into the entrance of the housing slide down the bed support toward the exit of the housing. The bed support contains a plurality of openings distributed between two solid rectangular borders which serve as the two long parallel sides of the bed support. The openings are sufficiently large so that gases can flow from the lower chamber in contact with the solids and then into the upper chamber. The solid rectangular borders prevent preferential flow of the gases up the walls of the housing by forcing the gases to flow toward the center of the bed support.

    Abstract: A shoe heel protection apparatus. A base underlies the heel and instep portion of a shoe and has side walls 16 formed contiguous therwith. The side walls extend generally upwardly from the base to cover and protect the sides and heel portion of the shoe from scuffing. A unique strap means is formed contiguous with the side walls and engages over the instep of the shoe. A pin strap and socket strap interlock by manually engaging the pin members of the pin strap with the apertures formed in section plates of the socket strap. The strap means may be easily adjusted to accommodate differing shoe sizes by selection of a particular one of the section plates for engagement with the pin members of the pin strap. A stop means is formed on said block for engaging an abutment means of the tooth and prevents axial rotation of the tooth when the shank is received within the bore.
