  • Patent number: 4727667
Abstract: When a comparatively large amount of material must be located on the label for a comparatively small container such as a bottle it is desirable to form the label so that a first portion of it can be wrapped around and adhesively secured to the exterior of the container and so that a second portion can be wrapped around and adhered to the exposed surface of the first portion. The adhesive used in adhering the second portion to the first has less adhesion than that used to hold the first portion to the container. This is preferably achieved by overprinting an adhesive coating on the second portion with a non-adhesive material.

  • Patent number: 4727700
Abstract: A ceiling or wall for a partition structure that contains framing members has the usual sheets of wallboard applied side-by-side to the framing members so that seams exist between the edges of adjacent sheets. Improved fire resistance is derived from runners which extend between the framing members directly behind the seams so as to serve as fire stops and as additional support for the wallboard sheets. Each runner is at its ends attached to the framing members between which it extends and further consists of several components which slip relative to each other, so that the length of the runner remains constant even though its components experience thermal expansion. This prevents the runners from bowing and pushing the wallboard sheets away from the framing members in the event of a fire. The runners further receive and anchor edge fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4727707
Abstract: A form, fill and seal packaging machine includes a tube former for forming a film having spaced apart registration marks thereon into a tube around a hollow mandrel. A pair of endless belt devices driven by stepping motors, located at the sides of the hollow mandrel advances the film through the machine. A stripping and sealing apparatus is located beneath the mandrel, for stripping product from the area of the film tube to be sealed, and sealing and cutting a filled package from the tube. A photoelectric cell located upstream of the tube former senses the passing of each registration mark as the film is fed. The photoelectric cell is operatively associated with the belt drive and the actuator for the stripper and the sealer through an index controller. The index controller deactivates the stepping motors. A master controller activates the stripper/sealer actuator at a predetermined point in each packaging cycle.

  • Patent number: 4727708
Abstract: A blank for forming a wrap-around carton is delivered to a moving support carriage which is moved to a station where the moving carriage receives a predetermined number of articles to be packaged. The carriage, with the articles resting on the bottom portion of the blank, is moved downstream while cams actuate tucker fingers which pivot up to fold the tuck flaps of the blank toward each other, causing the end and side panels to be elevated. Another cam actuates a pusher bar which pivots up to push the articles. The carton blank and the articles are thus positively moved through subsequent flap folding and gluing stations, avoiding the problems which can arise due to the use of separate means for moving the articles and the carton blank. A cam operated hinged plate is used to segregate the leading articles at the entry to the machine.
