  • Patent number: 4756100
Abstract: A cross country ski grooming device comprising a track sled adapted to be towed by a vehicle in the direction of the track and having a pair of spaced apart tracking elements on the underside of the sled oriented in the direction of the track. Each tracking element comprises an elongated body which is trapezoidal in cross section and has a pointed wedge at its front end. The present invention lies in the improvement of the structure of the tracking elements by displacing the forward wedge tips away from the longitudinal center line of each tracking element in the direction toward the space between the tracking elements. This reduces the amount of snow passing between the tracking elements as the device is moved through the snow, eliminating objectionable compacting of the center ridge between the ski tracks.

  • Patent number: 4756116
Abstract: A pair of strips formed of dissimilar materials, such as copper and zinc for example, are disposed along a surface to define a zone which inhibits the entry of snails, slugs or the like. The dissimilar materials are ones which exhibit different electrode potentials or voltages when in contact with an electrolyte. It is believed that the exudate or slime present on the skin of a snail or the like has electrolytic characteristics and electrochemical reactions occur when the body of the snail or the like spans the dissimilar strips which reactions are sensed by the snail and discourage further progress. The barrier may be preformed as a flexible, adhesive coated ribbon or tape with the two electrically conductive strips extending along opposite edge regions of one surface of the tape.

Abstract: A capping machine in which open containers are successively brought to a capping station where a respective container is held against rotation to permit closing of the open container by rotating movement of a cap fed from a reservoir to a pick-up station; a head frame assembly of the machine includes a spindle assembly carrying a chuck at the lower spindle end and drivingly connected by way of an adjustable clutch and by way of a positive drive connection with a driving motor; additionally, the spindle assembly includes a double-acting pneumatic cylinder to cause reciprocation of the spindle in its axial direction; the various components of the head frame assembly are balanced about a pivot shaft on which they are mounted for pivot movement in unison so that the actuating force for pivoting the head frame assembly can be kept relatively small; in operation, the head frame assembly is pivoted from a capping position where the chuck is in alignment with the open end of the container, into a pick-up position whe

  • Patent number: 4756139
Abstract: An article grouping technique is embodied in a machine which continuously end-loads groups of bottles into open-ended carton sleeves. The machine includes a fixed base plate 10 along which a line of bottles (B) move, a series of parallel metering bars (12) spaced apart to receive the open-ended carton sleeves which are mounted for movement together along the base plate. Fixed guides defining infeed conveyors (22, 24) are provided along which bottles to be loaded are fed into the machine. Each of the infeed conveyors converges towards the path of movement of the carton sleeves and each metering bar has a free end section which is movable obliquely across the path of movement of the bottles on the respective infeed conveyors so that a predetermined number of bottles are formed into a sub-group on each of the infeed conveyors between adjacent metering bars.

  • Patent number: 4756140
Abstract: A process of packaging goods, especially foodstuffs, comprising enclosing the goods in a sheet of thermoplastics material, preferably a bag, so as to form a package which presents two unsealed juxtaposed surfaces. The package is then placed in a container, one wall of which is made of deformable sheet material, preferably a sheet made of a silicone resin, which is stable at the sealing temperature of the thermoplastics material. The container is then connected to a source of vacuum and when the pressure has been reduced in both the container and the bag sufficient heat is applied to the deformable sheet in the vicinity of the juxtaposed surfaces to cause them to become sealed together. In a further embodiment of the invention vacuumization of the container including the bag is followed by the injection of a preserving gas such as carbon dioxide.

  • Patent number: 4756141
Abstract: A machine for conditioning a stack of pads, such as sanitary pads, for packaging includes a rotor. Radially extending chambers having closed sides and open front and rear ends are fastened to the rotor. There is a compressor plunger in each chamber. The plungers are carried on guide rods extending from cam follower brackets. A stationary cam plate is mounted perpendicular to the rotational axis of the rotor. The follower rollers are spring biased into contact with the periphery of the cam plate. The chambers are incremented in angular steps starting with a position in which the chamber is stopped momentarily for being loaded with a stack of pads at which time its plunger is retracted. As the loaded chamber increments in two angular steps to an unloading position, the plunger is driven out by the cam to compress the stack. When the chamber rotates from loading position to unloading position, the pads are effectively turned so they are standing on their edges in the unloading position.

  • Patent number: 4756142
Abstract: Apparatus for closing filled sacks, which have been transferred from a filling station to a take-over station and a closing station by a conveyor comprising a gripper, which like pliers grips the flattened lips of the filled sacks. A pair of gripping rollers, which are rotatable about axes which are at right angles to the main axis of the sack, take-over the sacks at the take-over station with the lips protruding. The apparatus also comprises a welding or sewing machine to act on the protruding lips to form a seam for closing the filled sacks. At least one of the gripping rollers is rotated as the filled sacks are conveyed to the closing machine to force the lips to protrude sufficiently to facilitate making the closing seam.

  • Patent number: 4756149
Abstract: In a stranding machine system with a single lay and take up device for the rope a take up coil (5) is provided and a single lay rotor (7) which rotates and encompasses the take up coil are coaxially disposed. The take up coil and the single lay rotor are moveable reciprocally relative to each other for generating a lay stroke for the rope in an axial direction and the rope is fed from the longitudinal axis of the single lay rotor along the same to the take up coil. For taking up a difference of the speeds is generated for the take up coil and the single lay rotor depending from the given obtained take up diameter of the take up coil. The take up coil with the nominal speed and the single lay rotor for generating the required speed for the differential speed are separately rotatably driven. Thereby, the take up roller may be mounted stationary free floating in axial direction and the single lay hollow rotor member may also be free floating mounted but reciprocally driven in axial direction.
