  • Patent number: 4757830
Abstract: Tobacco conditioning apparatus comprising a covered generally U-shaped trough containing an axially extending rotatable paddle assembly. Tobacco to be conditioned is introduced through an aperture in the cover at the inlet end, and the trough is mounted with its axis inclined downwardly towards the outlet end so that the tobacco is progressively moved from the inlet to the outlet by rotation of the paddle assembly, while being conditioned with a steam spray. The tobacco leaves the outlet end through an aperture in the base of the trough.

  • Patent number: 4757831
Abstract: This invention relates to a golf club cleaning machine characterized by a compartmented carousel having an annular tray-forming basket suspended therebeneath which holds several clubs in side-by-side upstanding circular relation for rotation therewith one-at-a-time past one or more nozzles which spray a high-pressure jet of cleaning fluid at least against the hitting face and sole of each club as it passes. An internal baffle having a concave undersurface redirects any cleaning fluid directed or splashing upwardly thereagainst back down onto the exposed portions of the club shafts and the club heads before it can reach the handgrips or otherwise escape from the machine through the opening in the lid. This baffle has inwardly-extending radially-directed slots that divide same into a plurality of individual flaps which deflect as needed to pass the club heads as they are inserted and removed from the tray.

  • Patent number: 4757832
Abstract: An outdoor sleeping system is provided incorporating a ground cover sheet to which is attached a tent cover in the form of a body section and a head section which are releasably interconnected by a slide fastener or other suitable connector. The tent cover is secured to the ground cover sheet by means of one or more slide fasteners enabling complete removal of the head and body portions of the tent cover or either of the head and body portions thereof as desired. The tent cover is constructed to permit efficient lateral or end entry into the sleeping system as is desired by the user under the conditions involved. Under wet conditions, lateral opening of the tent cover permits entry by the user while the tent cover prevents rain from getting into the sleeping system. The tent cover is supported in upright position by a plurality of ribs each of which being collapsible to a shortened condition for closure and rolling of the sleeping system.

  • Patent number: 4757865
Abstract: A fast response sprinkler head. The sprinkler head includes a frame having a base portion connected to a source of water under pressure and a pair of arms extended outwardly from the base and are connected at a junction. A cap normally encloses the outlet in the base and a lever assembly, which extends between the junction and the cap, holds the cap in the closed position. The lever assembly includes a pair of lever members, with one of the lever members being biased in a direction away from the other lever member. A fusible link assembly interconnects the lever members and includes a pair of thin metal sheets that are joined together by a layer of fusible metal or solder. Each sheet is formed with a recess in one side edge and the recesses face each other to define an opening which receives the lever member. The corners of each sheet are bent generally normal to the sheet to provide fins or tabs.

Abstract: An hydraulic drill feed unit is provided having a main support frame extending from its mounting on a base plate. Single stage cylinders are located on either side of the main support frame and also extend from the base plate. A subframe adapted to travel upon the main support frame is connected to the single stage cylinders. A two stage cylinder is attached to the subframe and extends to a slide member adapted to travel upon the main support frame. The slide member, to which the drill is attached, can move with the subframe responsive to the single stage cylinders and can move relative to the subframe responsive to the two stage cylinder. Each of the cylinders are equipped with ball and socket connectors which allow the drill feed unit to obtain increased lift out of a minimum space. In such a manner, the drill can be positioned to engage the rock strata in very narrow mineshafts or tunnels.

Abstract: A four wheel drive system of a vehicle has a transfer clutch capable of varying clutch torque transmitted therethrough from an engine to front wheels. The clutch torque is controlled by a driving force distribution control unit in accordance with a front and rear wheel speed difference determined from signals from front and rear wheel speed sensors. Preferably, the control unit controls a distribution ratio of a front wheel driving force to a rear wheel driving force by controlling the clutch torque of the transfer clutch in such a manner that the distribution ratio decreases as the wheel speed difference increases when the wheel speed difference is positive, that is the front wheel speed is higher than the rear wheel speed, and that the distribution ratio increases as the absolute value of the wheel speed difference increases when the wheel speed difference is negative.

  • Patent number: 4757873
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus useful in downhole logging tools used in the oil and gas industry. The present invention is particularly directed to an acoustic logging tool including improved, articulated transducer pad assemblies for providing improved transducer contact with the wall of a borehole or the inside wall of casing cemented in the borehole. The apparatus of the present invention provides a plurality of articulated transducer pad assemblies disposed about the circumference of an acoustic logging tool in a plurality of separately movable and adjustable groups. These assemblies each include a plurality of articulated joints permitting limited independent movement of each assembly. The assemblies are spring biased at each end into a deployed configuration to maintain good contact with the wall of the borehole or casing. A drive motor overcomes the biasing springs to retract the assemblies to provide a compact tool for tripping to the location of interest within the borehole.

Abstract: An air intake noise suppressor for reducing noise generated by intake air sucked into an internal combustion engine. An intake pipe is provided with a resonance pipe, which extends forwards within the intake pipe as penetrating through a rear end wall of the intake pipe, communicates with the interior of the intake pipe through an opening at its front end, extends backwards from the rear end wall externally of the intake pipe and has its rear end closed, and the resonance pipe is fixedly locked to the intake pipe at its portion penetrating through the rear end wall and in the proximity of the opening at the front end. Since the resonance pipe is accommodated within the intake pipe over a considerable length and only its rear end portion projects backwards from the intake pipe, a surplus space is almost not necessitated for mounting the resonance pipe, and yet the resonance pipe itself can be made sufficiently long.
