  • Patent number: 4757631
Abstract: A fish lure has a bouyant casing containing a pump and a battery mounted inside a watertight compartment providing positive bouyancy to the casing. A spray nozzle is mounted on top of the casing and is driven by the pump. The prepulsive force of its discharge causes rotation of the casing about a vertical axis. The underside of the casing is open and leads into a water chamber which fills with water quickly when the lure is placed in the water, to provide it with a self-righting capability. The outside of the immersed portion of the casing is of frusto-conical shape and has horizontally-spaced upright reflectors attached to it. As the casing rotates, the reflectors produce an occulting effect under water which appears to attract deep-swimming fish to it. A light may also be provided on the casing for night fishing.

  • Patent number: 4757640
Abstract: The invention pertains to culturing ascoscarps or fruitbodies of species of the genus Morchella. Mycelia are provided with nutrients and subsequently produce nutrient-primed mycelia, such as nutrient-rich sclerotia or nutrient-rich hyphae, in which are stored sufficient nutrients to supply the ascocarps that develop later. The fungus is induced to give rise to ascocarp development by initially maintaining the fungus in an environment that is poor in exogenous nutrients, and by exposing the fungus to a high level of water. After induction, primordia appear. The period from primordia appearance until midway to maturation of the fruitbodies represents a critical period during which the fruitbodies are prone to abort. During this critical period, particular attention is directed to maintaining favorable conditions. The fruitbodies, which may be grown to maturation, are ultimately harvested.

  • Patent number: 4757668
Abstract: To provide for continuous feed of a packaging film, the film into a tube, filling the tube into packages and severing the packages, markers are located longitudinally along the film for example of plastic; the film is fed and formed into a tube by a pulling mechanism, the drive of which is synchronized with the bag-forming operation as such, that is, sealing and severing tube portions, under control of the markers so that slippage between drive rollers or units and the film being fed or inaccuracies in operation of the filling mechanism are immediately compensated by change in speed of the drive unit or operation of the filling and bag-forming mechanism to maintain relative alignment of bag closing with respective areas on the film, preventing accumulation of positioning errors and hence possible misalignment of printed information on the film with respect to the closing seams of the bag.

  • Patent number: 4757673
Abstract: A tool, and method of utilization, for achieving fine vertical adjustment of a crop divider pivotally mounted on the front of a crop header. The tool includes an inverted J-shaped support member adapted for attachment to a frame member of the crop header. Rotatably secured to the support member is an elongated screw member to which is threadably mounted for axial movement an annular ring. The tool is mounted such that a coarse adjusting chain, which normally extends between the crop row divider and crop header, passes through the annular ring. By rotating the elongated screw, the ring moves axially in a direction generally perpendicular to the normal orientation of the chain to alter its effective length, causing the crop row divider to pivot about its mounting and thereby adjust its vertical position relative to the ground.

  • Patent number: 4757675
Abstract: An apparatus and a process for simultaneously twisting a channeled core rod, inserting optical fibers into the channels and capturing the twist of the rod while minimizing the insertion stresses imposed on the optical fibers. The apparatus comprises a shape capture die, an insertion die and a core capture means which are located proximate one another to provide a short region of twisting. The insertion die is rotationally fixed to the shape capture die so that as the core passes through the center of the insertion die the fibers are automatically inserted into the channels of the core. The core and inserted fibers are then passed to a core capture means which controls rotation of the core but permits its axial translation. The rotating elements of the machine are driven from a line shaft or other suitable means providing them with identical rotation rates.

  • Patent number: 4757676
Abstract: A yarn splicer having a closable pneumatic chamber which is permanently open at each end so as to receive the yarns to be spliced from opposite ends, discrete yarn rolling means arranged on either side of the splicer adjacent each end of the chamber to engage the running portion of a respective yarn in the chamber, and yarn gripping means also disposed at either end of the chamber to engage the respective loose ends of the yarns. Actuation of the splicer results in a prescribed rolling action on the yarns in a direction to completely detwist them, and deactivation results in an equal and opposite action on the yarns so as to restore the original twist. The preferred arrangement has a biased lost motion linkage between the actuation means and the chamber-mechanism which provides a drive to the rolling means and gives an over-twist to the yarns during detwisting and which recovers the over-twist as well as restoring the original twist at the termination of the splice.

  • Patent number: 4757677
Abstract: An open-end spinning machine includes a low inertia sensing wheel frictionally engaging the package so that the rate of rotation of the frictional sensing wheel is sensed by a tachometer generator to provide a "winding rate" signal fed to a controller for controlling the speed of a stepper motor driving the fibre feed roller of the fibre opening unit during piecing, in response to the take-up of yarn at the package. Optionally, the sensing wheel is supported on a link such that the angular position of the link indicative of the diameter of the package is sensed by an angular position transducer and the signal of the transducer is also fed to the controller.Yarn delivery rolls are separated, during piecing, to allow the rate of withdrawal of the yarn from the doffing tube of the open-end spinning unit in response solely to the accelerating package. The draft is non-linear during piecing, in accordance with a predetermined programme.

  • Patent number: 4757679
Abstract: A doffing carriage is mobile at the level of the flyer support bed of a roving frame, and carries cop and empty tube gripping elements which are orientatable between a vertical position and an oblique position. A peg conveyor loaded with empty tubes in a reverse zig-zag arrangement to that of the cop rotators is disposed at the level of a footboard. The cops, lowered on to an orientatable cop carrier, are gripped by the gripping elements in an oblique position, raised, disposed vertically and deposited on to the free pegs of the conveyor, proceeding from one end of the roving frame to the other. After moving the conveyor through one step, the gripping elements deposit the empty tubes on to the cop rotators by proceeding in the reverse direction. The same carriage loads the empty tubes on to the conveyor and unloads the cops from it at one end of the roving frame, while this latter is in operation.
