  • Patent number: 4760621
Abstract: The device includes a coiled extension spring, one end containing a hook for pivotal attachment either to the door or door frame, the other end being open to receive an elongated, tubular guide, one end of which threads into the open end of the spring. The other end of the guide is closed and contains a coaxial aperture through which slides an elongated rod having one end adapted for pivotal attachment to the other of the door or door frame and a piston attached to its second end which is slidably-retained within the guide to position the rod during relative coaxial sliding of the rod and guide, and to stop the rod against further protractive movement when the piston abuts the closed end of the guide. Camming surfaces located radially on the piston cooperate with opposing follower means in the guide, of which two embodiments are disclosed, to clamp the piston in the most extensive position of the rod, which clamping action can be overcome by a retractive force of the rod of a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 4760627
Abstract: In one embodiment, the oscillating pinch roll assembly or web handling apparatus includes a rotatable spindle having an input which accepts the tubular web. A pinch roller is mounted at the input. A plurality of rollers are circumferentially disposed around the pinch roller and the axis of rotation of those rollers is parallel to the center line of the tubular web. A turning bar is disposed in the interior of the spindle and turns the flattened web exiting the pinch rollers 90 degrees and feeds the horizontal web to a first roller of the plurality of rollers disposed at the periphery of the spindle. The traveling web always passes over this first roller. By rotating the spindle in an oscillatory manner about the center axis of the tubular web, the horizontally traveling, flat web is wound and unwound around the outer periphery of the spindle and is fed to a fixed idler roller.

  • Patent number: 4760628
Abstract: Methods and means for allowing heddles to be drawn-in with warp yarns away from a loom for subsequent loading into the loom. A heddle holder allows rows of drawn-in heddles to be carried to the loom. Removable heddle rod sections allow for the heddle holder to load the rows of drawn-in heddles into intermediate portions of heddle rods of adjacent harness frames. The heddle holder also positions the adjacent harness frames during loading of the drawn-in heddles. Individual warp yarn beam canisters provided with the drawn-in heddles facilitate the heddle holder loading of the drawn-in heddles into the harness frames. A protective covering protects the drawn-in warp yarns as they are transferred from the remote drawing-in site to the loom.

  • Patent number: 4760631
Abstract: An improved roller apparatus for treating material webs, in which energy requirements are reduced by decreasing losses caused by fluid turbulence. The apparatus includes a cylindrical, hollow roll, supported on a shaft by hydraulic fluid under pressure. Longitudinal seals subdivide the area between the roll and the shaft into chambers. As the roll rotates, a fluid flow is established within the cylinder, in the direction of rotation. Rather than allow the fluid to establish a turbulent return flow path within each chamber, a return path isolated from the rotational flow is provided. One such return path is a group of channels formed transversely through the shaft, or alternately, recesses can be formed circumferentially in the shaft, covered to separate the return flow from the rotational flow.

  • Patent number: 4760632
Abstract: A method for joining stacked thin plates (metal sheets in particular) or plate sections by stamping dies, and an apparatus for performing the method, in which stacked plate portions are severed by stamping them along a longitudinal portion of their peripheries and pressed them out of the plane of the plate, and in which subsequently, by means of a counterpressure die element, the plate portion nearer the plates is enlarged on the cut sides by swaging, yet without the plate portion remote from the plates being enlarged. Further, during the stamping and pressing operation the counterpressure die element, or the swaging die, remains stationary inside the bottom die 2, but subsequently, during the coining operation that generates higher pressing forces, the yields counter to an elastic supporting force, whereupon the flowing material of the plate piece nearer the plates forms flange portions which grip the plate associated with it from behind.

  • Patent number: 4760634
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing the method, for connecting stacked thin plates 4, 5 (in particular sheet-metal plates) or plate sections, according to which stacked flat parts 10, 11 of both plates are first deep drawn together with one another, after which the bottom area of the deep-drawn flat parts is swaged wider, and wherein the radial expansion of the bottom area of these deep-drawn flat parts is limited, as a result of which a plastic deformation of the material of the plate takes place, particularly in the peripheral area, so that a connection point is created. By means of a crimp 17 present in the peripheral area of the bottom 16 of the blind opening 3 of the die 2, the swaged material flows into itself at the point that is to be connected, and hence the clinching strength, is improved.

  • Patent number: 4760667
Abstract: Process and apparatus for the preparation of synthesis gas by the partial combustion of a carbonaceous fuel with an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor also producing molten slag, the molten slag being removed through a slag discharge in the bottom portion of the reactor and being passed by gravity into a water bath where it is solidified by quenching. Solidified slag floating on the water of the water bath is removed therefrom by lowering the water level in the water bath to a location or point below the lower end of a baffle, the baffle being arranged in the water bath and dividing the water bath into an upper quenching zone and a lower capturing zone, and by raising the water level again to above the upper end of the baffle, thereby capturing floating slag under the baffle, the captured slag being discharged from the water bath through an outlet arranged at or near the top of the capturing zone.
