The extent of movement of the filament corresponds to the magnitude of the physical measurement being taken. Pulses from the photosensor are received by a memory-chip-containing electronic processing counter or calculator for counting, storage calculation, conversion to appropriate measurement units, etc. and a final reading of the measurement taken appears on a digital display. For length measurements, the apparatus is provided with a storage reel for the filament and a reversing switch for rewinding or for reversing the counting element.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Inventor: Peter Sing

Patent number: 4765067Abstract: Disclosed is a steam-shower apparatus and method including a supply of steam which is fed through a Coanda nozzle and along a path running adjacent one surface of the apparatus which is heated to a temperature in excess of 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The sheet to which the steam is to be applied runs adjacent this same surface of the machine, but in a direction opposite to the direction of the flow of steam. In one embodiment, the heated surface is located relative to the sheet so that an upstream edge of the apparatus is spaced from said sheet by a greater distance than is the downstream edge of the apparatus which preferably contacts the sheet to back pressure the steam between the apparatus and sheet. The flow of steam runs the entire length of this surface heating the sheet as it flows in the opposite direction. The apparatus may be divided into several sections so that the sheet may be profiled along certain regions which are defined by these sections.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Assignee: Thermo Electron - Web Systems, Inc.Inventor: Bruce F. Patent number: 4765068Abstract: The present arrangement is a hot zone structure for a vacuum furnace which includes an endlessly shaped outside wall (e.g. shaped substantially into a circle) preferably made of stainless steel. Disposed next to the inside surface of the outside wall is a layer or layers of heat insulating material means such as graphite felt. Further disposed next to the inside surface of the insulating material means is an inside wall preferably made of graphite. The inside wall defines the chamber of the hot zone structure into which items to be heat treated are placed. Passing through the outside wall, through the layer of heat insulating material, and through the inside wall are many continuous apertures. At the end of each continuous aperture there is located a threaded terminal piece and threaded into each terminal piece is a graphite nozzle. Accordingly there is a plurality of graphite nozzles passing from outside the outside wall of the hot zone structure through into the inside chamber of the hot zone structure.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Assignee: Vacuum Furnace Systems CorporationInventor: Fred W. Patent number: 4765072Abstract: A dirt deflector overtravel mechanism for a digging boom assembly which permits raising and lowering of the dirt deflector when the deflector is impacted by a rock or the like. The dirt deflector is pivotally attached at one end to a frame. A deflector link is pivotally attached at one end to the boom frame and its opposite end supports the dirt deflector. The opposite end of the deflector link is also pivotally attached to an overtravel link which, in turn, is pivotally attached to the deflector such that it remains in close proximity to the deflector under normal conditions. When a large rock or the like is thrown against the dirt deflector by the digging chain, the deflector link and overtravel link move from a scissors-like position to a colinear position which permits the dirt deflector to be displaced thereby preventing breakage or damage to the deflector. After the impact and displacement of the dirt deflector, the deflector will automatically fall back into place under its own weight.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Assignee: J.
