    Abstract: A recessed hinge wherein a socket is installed in the pivotable door of a piece of furniture and an arm is attached to a stationary wall of the piece of furniture. The socket contains a pintle which connects the socket to the arm, and the socket has an open side which is concealable by a closure pivotally connected to the arm by a pin which is parallel to the pintle. The closure overlies the open side of the socket in the closed position of the door, and it arrests the door when the latter reaches its fully open position. Two extensions of the closure extend into the socket and engage abutments in the socket when the door is closed. The closure can be made of an elastomeric material.

    Abstract: A spring assembly for counterbalancing a door includes a compression spring and tension members engaging opposite ends of the spring. The tension members can be connected in a conventional door mechanism, the assembly replacing ordinary tension springs of the mechanism. The tension members and the spring are maintained in axial alignment during compression of the spring, which can be preloaded as desired. The assembly is fail-safe in that the spring is completely enclosed and the spring, if broken, continues to provide support for the door.

    Abstract: A concealed swinging door hinge which allows a door to close with a better fit to the jam or adjacent door and yet allows the door to open a full one hundred and eighty degrees and provides good clearance when so open is disclosed in four embodiments. In each embodiment, the hinge employs a link member between the door and jam which defines two vertical hinges, one coupled to the jam and the other to the door. The hinge includes means for advancing the respective hinge axes out from the jam and door as the door swings open, and for retracting them as it swings closed, as well as means for coordinating such hinge advance and retreat so that each advances and retreats at least approximately the same distance as the door swings open or closed. In the first embodiment, the link member forms continuous hinges down the entire length of the door with two arm members, one coupled to the jam and one to the door.

A circumferential cutting means such as a mold cup containing a patty ejector or mold plate and a thickness adjustment means is provided. The circumferential cutting means has a sleeve connected thereto which extends upwardly from the mold cup. A shaft extends upwardly from the center of the mold plate within the sleeve. The height of the mold plate relative to the base of the mold cup determines the thickness of the patty to be produced. The height is determined by the arrangement of a key protruding from the wall of one of the plunger shaft or sleeve member, the key being slidably engaged in one of a plurality of keyways of differing lengths inscribed in the wall of the other of the sleeve member or plunger shaft.

The heat is sufficiently intense to destroy the bond between the skin and underlying flesh without significantly affecting the underlying flesh. The fish or fowl is carried to a skinning station where a high velocity spray, which is directed at the skin, rapidly separates the skin from the underlying flesh without removing the flesh.

The housing and insert include cooperative latching structure for holding the insert fixed in at least two positions relative to the housing. In a first position, the insert has an opening for receipt of the unattached end of the strap therethrough. Upon movement of the insert interiorly of the housing cavity to a second locked position, the insert opening with a portion of the strap end therethrough is moved interiorly of the housing and the strap end is deformed into a reverse bend to thereby lock the strap in the bundling tie head.

    Abstract: A quick-release radial clamp for fitting over and clamping a hose onto a rigid fitting. The clamp has a split ring with an inner and outer surface. The split in the ring extends in the axial direction of the ring and forms two abutting ends. A stretched elastomeric sleeve is placed upon the outer surface of the ring and is held in that position by the ring as long as the shape of ring is held by the abutting ends. A quick-release mechanism is provided at the ends for disengaging them from their abutting positions, thereby permitting the stretched sleeve to recover and contract. This contracts the rings as well by causing the ends to slide past each other. This clamping contraction is accomplished quickly and easily and provides a sure clamp.

    Abstract: A cord tightening device for tightening cords on anoraks, shopping bags and other bags includes a hollow body and a slider movably disposed in the body and slidable along a guide groove defined in a face plate of the body. The slider has an annular retainer for pressing cord portions against side walls of the body, and a resilient knob cantilevered to the retainer and normally projecting through the guide groove above the face plate. The cantilevered knob is resiliently flexible toward the back plate to such an extent that the knob is substantially fully received in an aperture in the retainer. With this resilient knob, the slider can smoothly be inserted in and removed from the body without damaging the body.

A space is defined between the fingers for accommodating a buckle swivel pin hingedly secured to a buckle arm. The fingers are deformable to clamp about the buckle arm. A clamping flange is formed integrally with a respective one of opposed side edges of the top wall. Gripping prongs extend above an inner face of at least one of the clamping flanges. The flanges are bendable rearwardly of the top wall and spaced therefrom to define a belt end receiving throat to attach the attachment clamp to a belt end by pressing the clamping flanges on the belt end to cause the clamping flanges and the gripping prongs to grip the belt end.

    Abstract: Apparatus for semiautomatic termination of conductors of a ribbon cable to electrical terminals of an electrical connector having conductor receiving cavities located on opposite sides thereof. In operation the apparatus combs and shears individual conductors of the ribbon cable. The comb means cooperates with the individual conductors adjacent the dielectric jacket of the cable, ensuring that the individual conductors will be combed and spaced as required for termination to the terminals. The shear means is retracted, leaving the comb means in contact with the conductors, maintaining the position of the conductors until the connector is brought into place. A shuttle then places the connector in engagement with the conductors. The comb means is retracted, permitting the conductors to be positioned in alignment with terminating sections of the terminals which in turn allows for insertion and crimping of the conductors to occur.

    Abstract: A catalytic converter includes a metal honeycomb catalyst support which is anchored in a canister so that it cannot telescope or blow out. The honeycomb catalyst support is made by folding a strip of metal back and forth upon itself. The lines of folding are inclined to the perpendicular to the axis of the strip. The repeating sequence of the inclinations is left, right, right, left, etc. Folding the strip in this manner produces a honeycomb that has a taper in both of two directions so that it can be anchored in the canister. The canister has a taper which coincides with the taper of the honeycomb. The invention also includes a method and apparatus for making crease lines on the strip, so that the strip can be folded.

    Abstract: A tool for inserting valve stems in the wheel rim of a tubeless tire and wheel combination comprises a tubular body having a tapered inner peripheral wall and an end portion adapted to be received in the stem hole of the wheel rim. The other end of the tubular body has a threaded aperture adapted to receive a threaded shaft therethrough. The shaft is adapted to engage the end of a valve stem and as it is rotated to drive it axially through the tubular body. As a result, the resilient, spaced apart ribs at the other end of the valve stem are axially compressed as they are driven through the stem hole in the wheel. Once the end most rib has protruded outwardly from the end of the tubular body, and expands on the inner side of the wheel rim wall, the tube is removed from the stem hole and the shaft is further rotated to extract the innermost rib from the end of the housing whereby the innermost rib expands on the opposite side of the wheel rim wall to thereby mount the valve stem to the wheel rim.

    Abstract: A tool for effecting the sealing or plugging of a hole in an object, such as a coolant passage in an injection molding die. The plug includes a flexible, hollow cylindrical sleeve and a core member longitudinally interengageable into the sleeve. The core member is slightly larger than the bore of the sleeve and when drawn into the sleeve expands it to fill the hole and secure the plug. The plug may be used either internally as a diverting plug or externally as a sealing plug. The inserting tool is designed to position the plug in the hole as desired, and to interengage the core member into the sleeve. The plug is inserted into the hole with the sleeve and core member separate. Then the sleeve is supported in position and the core is interengaged into the sleeve.

    Abstract: A field subassembly is assembled by positioning two coil supports adjacent respective core end faces of a ferromagnetic core. The core-engaging surfaces of the coil supports and the core end faces have respective surfaces which are uninterrupted by projections. During the assembly of the field, fasteners are pushed into the respective coil supports and the core such that the fasteners engage mounting holes in the coil support with a press-fit. After the field is wound, a brush holder subassembly is also pressed onto the fasteners and the resultant core subassembly is connected to a field housing by driving the fasteners in a conventional fashion. In the preferred embodiment, the fasteners provide a three-point contact with mounting holes formed in the coil supports and the brush holder subassembly.

The center portion is then partially eroded away to form a slow wave structure having a helical radially-extending portion with an inner helical axially-extending ridge to provide a helical axially-centered gap between adjacent ridges. The slow wave structure contains the microwave energy which follows the spiral path of the structure and produces RF voltage across the gap of adjacent portions of the ridges to thereby form a gapped-wall surrounding an axially-extending hole for gap electric field interaction with the axial electron beam of a traveling wave tube of which the slow wave structure is a part.

Accordingly there is a plurality of graphite nozzles passing from outside the outside wall of the hot zone structure through into the inside chamber of the hot zone structure.

    Abstract: A dirt deflector overtravel mechanism for a digging boom assembly which permits raising and lowering of the dirt deflector when the deflector is impacted by a rock or the like. The opposite end of the deflector link is also pivotally attached to an overtravel link which, in turn, is pivotally attached to the deflector such that it remains in close proximity to the deflector under normal conditions. When a large rock or the like is thrown against the dirt deflector by the digging chain, the deflector link and overtravel link move from a scissors-like position to a colinear position which permits the dirt deflector to be displaced thereby preventing breakage or damage to the deflector. After the impact and displacement of the dirt deflector, the deflector will automatically fall back into place under its own weight.
