  • Patent number: 4788741
Abstract: The caster has a generally cylindrical stem which is received in a well in a socket which, in turn, is securely received in the bottom of the hollow leg. The stem has a longitudinal groove which receives an inwardly projecting rib on the socket. This prevents rotation of the stem in the socket so that when the swivel braking mechanism on the caster is actuated, the wheel cannot pivot relative to the vertical axis. This economical mechanism facilitates installation and replacement of the caster.

  • Patent number: 4788746
Abstract: Concentric tubes, mounted for relative rotation about their common axis, each include radially extending hinge plates. The tubes carry contra-rotational cam slots through which project the ends of a cross-shaft. Bearings on the ends of the cross-shaft engage the milled cam slots. A cylindrical cross roller bearing block mounting the cross-shaft is axially, slidably positioned within the inner tube and is under a biasing force exerted by a compression spring abutting one end of the block. The cam profiles of the slots includes portions at the ends of the slots extending parallel to the rotational axis to lock the inner and outer tubes together at the beginning and end of the stroke with the cam profile controlling the hinge plate acceleration, deceleration, and velocity, in addition to ensuring positive locking of the hinge in plate open and closed position.

  • Patent number: 4788747
Abstract: A transversely mounted, single pneumatic spring, and dual bell crank and idler link assembly providing a compact counterbalance for hinged closures such as automobile trunk lids. In an automobile trunk installation, the assembly is installed with the spring in lateral disposition in the forward upper portion of the trunk, thus being effectively concealed. Alternative pneumatic spring enhancements, e.g., a multi-output force feature and a pressure decay compensation feature may be incorporated in the spring unit to enhance opening of the lid and to improve life expectancy of the pneumatic spring by minimizing and effectively negating pressure loss due to leakage of gas past the shaft seal. Excess spring cylinder length can provide space or volume zones used for the enhancement features.

The yoke member is attached to a hinge bracket which is, in turn, attached to a pointer positioned at a predetermined angle relative to the axis of the shaft. The pointer is positioned within a housing preferably covered by a face of which at least a portion is transparent to permit observation of the angular position of the pointer when the golfer grasps the club simulation member in a ball addressing configuration. The face may also advantageously provide indicia to permit convenient observation of the angle of the pointer which may easily be calibrated to correspond to the angle between the shaft and the underlying surface.

  • Patent number: 4788776
Abstract: The apparatus recovers solvent vapor and is used in a process for drying goods. A closed system of pipes guides an air flow through a heat exchanger comprising a condenser and an air heater. The system of pipes has a blower for providing a circulation forming this air flow and a switching means for the air flow comprising a plurality of valves and at least one pipe segment by which an adsorber is connectable in series in the circulation with a processing container. The adsorber is connectable by the blower or directly in the circulation with an outlet of the processing container. Advantageously at least one other pipe segment bypassing the heat exchanger with the switching means is provided so that the circulation only runs through the processing container, the blower and the adsorber without running through the heat exchanger. Furthermore at least one additional pipe segment and at least one additional switching means are provided bypassing the processing container.

Abstract: A sticker for spacing wood products apart vertically in a dry kiln is formed as an elongated, hollow, internally reinforced extruded rectangular profile of synthetic resin reinforced with glass fiber. The internal reinforcement is provided by one or more reinforcing webs that extend between the top and bottom peripheral walls of the rectangular profile. The preferred extrusion is made of a mixture of polycarbonate resin, polysulfone resin and 20-40% by weight glass fiber. The peripheral wall thickness of the rectangular profile ranges between about 0.0625 inch and 0.125 inch. The external width of the rectangular profile ranges between about 1 inch and 3 inches, preferably about 1.5 inches. The external height of the rectangular profile ranges between about 0.25 inch and 1.25 inches, preferably between about 0.625 inch and 1 inch. The length of the sticker ranges between about 4 feet and 9 feet.

Abstract: An apparatus for drying gel slabs which includes a porous support pad resting in a recess, a flexible vacuum-retaining cover sheet covering the support pad and the periphery of the recess, and means for pulling a vacuum down from underneath the support pad, is improved by adding a perimeter groove around the periphery of the recess, preferably spaced a small distance therefrom, with channels connecting the groove to the recess to transmit the vacuum. The perimeter groove provides a faster distribution of the vacuum, and provides a further means of sealing the cover sheet around the periphery of the recess, to provide more even and more reliable gel drying.

  • Patent number: 4788780
Abstract: An overboot is described which is adapted to be worn over a conventional boot or shoe and which is further adapted to connect to a ski (e.g., a cross-country ski) or a showshoe. The overboot includes an elongated, generally flat sole member. Attached to the periphery of the sole member is a flexible, water-resistant upper member which extends upwardly from the sole. The upper member can be opened to allow a boot to be inserted; closure means is adapted to close the upper member around the boot. Strap means are used to urge the boot forwardly in the overboot and to secure the boot to the sole member. The overboot is adapted to fit more than one size of boot. A connection member projects forwardly of the upper member for detachably connecting the overboot to a ski or snowshoe. The sole member can be flexed between the forward and rearward ends.

Abstract: A manipulation element for closing and latching a rear spoiler of boot on the leg of a skier. The manipulation element is journaled on the rear spoiler so that journalling of this element tensions a cable which closes the spoiler on the leg of the skier. The manipulation element comprises a U-shaped lever having an open space therein adapted to receive a second manipulation element which can, for example, lock the heel of the foot in the boot. In this way, two manipulation elements can be positioned on the dorsal zone of the spoiler. In another embodiment, the manipulation element includes two lateral ribs, each having a groove extending along the length of the rib for engaging and protecting the cable.

  • Patent number: 4788787
Abstract: A scent propagation device (10) for luring animals and then masking the scent of a human who is hunting game has a line (21) of substantial length that is wound on a free-moving spool (20). The spool (20) is rotatably mounted within a leak-proof container that is comprised of an upper housing (11) that sealingly mates with a lower housing (12). A plug (40) in the body of the container may be removed to open a channel to the interior of the scent propagation device (10) so that a liquid concentrate of a desired scent may be added. The line (21) is absorbent and becomes saturated with the scent. To disperse the desired scent, the user withdraws the line (21) from the container by tying the line (21) to a fixed object and walking away from that object. The line (21) is guided to exit the container through a bushing (26) that also partially meters the scent concentrate and extracts excess liquid concentrate.
