  • Patent number: 4793035
Abstract: The amount of textile warp size added to a sheet of threads in a running slasher is controlled by measuring the force applied to a separator bar, by passage of alternate threads on alternate sides of the bar. This force is the result of the dried size, which causes adjacent threads to adhere to each other. The force is compared to a predetermined value corresponding to the desired amount of size to be added to the threads. Based on this comparison, the pressure on the nip rolls is adjusted in order to squeeze more or less of the size solution from the threads. In this way, the amount of size added is maintained substantially equal to the predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4793048
Abstract: A tube is wound into a coil, and the resulting coil of tube is vibrated so that a given point of the tube reciprocates along a helical path. An optical fiber is fed into the coil of tube that is being thus vibrated. Because of the vibration, the inner wall of the tube exerts such a force as to move the optical fiber diagonally upward and forward. This force causes the optical fiber to jump in the tube diagonally upward and forward and slide forward along the inner wall of the tube. The intermittent conveying force exerted by the inner wall of the tube in the direction of the circumference of the coil causes the optical fiber in the tube to travel forward, thereby pulling in additional length of the optical fiber from outside the tube.

  • Patent number: 4793065
Abstract: In an annular saw force-exerting mechanism (56, 57) is provided so as to act on flange-equipped support rollers (40, 41) for the saw blade (8). The support rollers have at least one flange (44) engaging a groove in the web portion of the saw blade. The force-exerting mechanism acts essentially only in the axial direction of the support rollers essentially parallel to the plane of symmetry of the saw blade towards the centre of the saw blade. Alternatively, force-exerting mechanism is provided so as to act on a drive pulley for the saw blade essentially only in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drive pulley, parallel to the plane of symmetry of the saw blade outwards from the centre of the saw blade. In both cases the drive surfaces (22, 38) of the drive pulley and the saw blade are pressed against each other, and the inner edge of the flange on the support rollers is pressed against the inner edge of the groove in the web portion of the saw blade.

Abstract: An instrument for measuring the relative position of two objects comprises a scale with an incremental graduation defining a measuring direction X. A plurality of identical reference marks are positioned along the graduation, each reference mark allocated absolutely to the graduation. To determine the absolute value of a reference mark, two successive spacings between the two reference marks preceding in the measuring direction X are determined. The two spacings are determined by scanning the incremental graduation.

  • Patent number: 4793068
Abstract: A spacer for use in aligning and spacing tiles relative to each other, the spacer being cross-shaped, T-shaped, or bar-shaped, with four, three or two arms, respectively, each arm of which, in cross-section, is provided with a lower surface of tapered or contoured configuration to provide a surface in contact with the adhesive on the supporting surface of smaller area than the total arm area. The opposing vertical edges of the arms, which are in contact with the sides of the tiles are narrow in height and, while providing the desired spacing between tiles, provides a narrow area of contact between the arm and the tile to minimize frictional engagement between the abutting surfaces. At the juncture of the arms, there is provided an upwardly extending rod-like projection which serves as a handle to facilitate removal.

  • Patent number: 4793071
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for measuring the relative distance of closely adjacent objects, in particular for measuring and adjusting the distance between a printing head and a roller in needle printers, in which the chamber of a distance measuring sensor filled with liquid, which chamber is bounded by a diaphragm-like wall, is reduced in volume by deflection, while a part of the liquid escapes into an ascending conduit visible from the outside. This arrangement can be particularly readily manipulated in that the distance measuring sensor (1) comprises a rigid base layer (4), to which a solid intermediate layer (5) is applied, which has recesses for forming the chamber and the ascending conduit adjoining an opening of the chamber (7), which are closed by the rigid base layer (4) and a rubber-elastic at least partly transparent covering layer (6).

  • Patent number: 4793073
Abstract: An apparatus for continuously developing travelling bands of film has a tank which accommodates a processing bath. A device for the removal of moisture from film leaving the tank is located in the region of the tank exit. The device includes a substantially airtight enclosure having registering slot-like inlet and outlet openings for the film. The inlet and outlet openings divide the enclosure into two portions. A suction nozzle is disposed in each portion and is provided with a suction opening which faces the path of the film. Flexible sealing strips are arranged adjacent to the inlet and outlet openings of the enclosure. When there is no film passing through the enclosure, the sealing strips essentially close the inlet and outlet openings so that a vacuum is maintained in the enclosure. The sealing strips are bent away from the inlet and outlet openings during the passage of film through the enclosure.
