  • Patent number: 4852263
Abstract: A measuring device is used for measuring the length of cable between a surface winch and a well tool in a well bore. A tension device measures tension on the cable supporting the well tool. Constant parameters for the cable, temperatures and coefficients are input to a CPU summation means which also receives measured data inputs of length and tension and determine the net change of cable length. The net change of cable length is used to constantly correct the length measurements sent to a recorder so the log depth is corrected for change in cable length due to wheel measurements, tension and temperature.

  • Patent number: 4852264
Abstract: An oscillator oscillates at a frequency determined by the distance moved by a probe. The probe in contact with an object under measurement, moves according to the displacement of the object. A controller computes the distance moved by the probe from a reference position at predetermined time intervals by using the shift of the oscillating frequency of the oscillator. The controller further decides if the computed distances are within a predetermined range. If the computed distances moved are within that range, the controller supplies the computed distance moved to a transmitter, which in turn wirelessly transmits the distance. When the computed distance moved is outside the predetermined range, the controller does not output the distance moved to the transmitter, nor does it supply the distance moved every four computations of the distance moved.

  • Patent number: 4852279
Abstract: A blade is provided for a digging implement, especially a snowthrower. The implement is of the type having an auger blade arranged for advancement sideways into a body of material to be removed. The blade consists of a band with a leading edge wound along a blade axis, preferably helically, and a tapered body that slopes towards the axis away from the material discharge of the device. In the case of a snowthrower, where the material discharge is at the center, the blade will have two sections, wound oppositely around the blade axis and tapering in opposite directions towards the axis, away from the center discharge. The blade performs a slicing action on the material to be removed rather than scraping material from its face as is the case with the conventional snowthrower and analogous implements. The blade is thus aggressive and draws itself into the material, reducing the power requirements of both the blade and the system for propelling it into the material.

Another embodiment has a curved base of reduced thickness over its central region to fit within a gap between the trailing edge of a door and the mating edge of adjacent body structure. The reduced thickness of the base is attained by selective removal of material after the edge guard has been extruded to a basic transverse cross sectional shape. Material is removed mechanically, by grinding or shaving.

  • Patent number: 4852304
Abstract: In an apparatus and a method for slicing a cylindrical semiconductor ingot into thin wafer pieces using an inner peripheral sliding blade, a grind stone shaft with a grind stone mounted to the tip end thereof is located movably axially within a rotor provided with the inner peripheral sliding blade so that the grind stone shaft and rotor can be rotated integrally but axially movable relative to each other. The grind stone and slicing blade are arranged efficiently so that, after the semiconductor ingot is sliced with the slicing blade, the grind stone approaches the end face of the ingot to grind it. This can save a lapping step, thereby improving working efficiency.
