The insert includes a threaded bore 48 with a pressure screw 50 threadably mounted in the bore 48 in which the threaded screw has a pointed end 54 engaging the barrel at a selected point. A tool access aperture 58 extends through the forearm from the lower profile surface 16 in alignment with the threaded bore 48 for enabling a tool to be inserted through a tool access aperture 58 to engage the pressure screw 50 to rotate the pressure screw to the desired position. Preferably a locking means 60 is provided for locking the pressure screw 60 in place when the correct pressure is obtained.

The technique is especially advantageous in removing excess material, burrs, nicks, chips and other minor irregularities in workpieces. A second profiler may be used to check that the grinder has properly ground portions of the workpiece.

The lead screws are mutually synchronzied by an annular planet gear, and are driven by a spiroidal gear set. At a predetermined mast extension, motor drive is switched over for rotation of the mast rather than extension-retraction. The switch over is controlled by an actuator in the form of a movable guide element dimensioned to clear normal-sized protuberances but to be seized and carried by an oversize protuberance at the desired mast extension. The actuator is coupled to a lock which unlocks the annular gear to the canister so that motor drive results in mast rotation. An auxiliary lock allows re-locking of the canister to the support structure for allowing resumption of the mast extension-retraction mode.

The system has received approval for earthquake resistance support from the State of California. Also disclosed is the corresponding method of providing support to a mobile home in the presence of displacement forces generated by ground tremors.
