  • Patent number: 4907453
Abstract: A colloid analyzer is provided employing a relatively low frequency, low power, continuous "acoustic" wave signal propagated in the direction of spaced electrodes mounted adjacent to the side wall of a chamber or vessel containing a colloid sample. The chamber further comprises a series of probes for respectively sensing the pH, temperature, and conductivity of the sample(s) being analyzed. A piezoelectric transmitter generates the acoustic drive signal. The spaced electrodes in conjunction with an electronic signal processing circuit serves as a receiver and generates an output signal relating to the magnitude and polarity of the zeta potential of the particles being "acoustically" excited by the drive signal. A computer responsive to the signal processing circuit's output signals and/or the vessel probes' output signals alternately develop a graphical output relating to zeta potential, and/or one relating to the surface charge density of the analyzed colloid for given levels of titration.

  • Patent number: 4907460
Abstract: A torque sensor which includes two cylinders fixed to two shafts connected with each other through a torsion bar. The magnetic coupling state of the two cylinders is made variable corresponding to relative rotations of the two shafts. The magnetic coupling state thereof is detected, which is indicative of a torque acting on the shafts. The two cylinders form at the opposite end edges thereof teeth provided with cutouts disposed circumferentially of the cylinders and are opposite to each other at portions of about half a width of each tooth. The two shafts are regulated by rotation so as to not put the teeth of the cylinders completely opposite or non-opposite to each other. This enlarges a rate of change in the magnetic coupling state, detecting the torque with high sensitivity, and reducing a lateral difference in the output.

  • Patent number: 4907468
Abstract: A pedal effort-reduction apparatus according to the present invention comprises a pedal arm and a lever which is movable as one therewith. First and second torsion coil springs are provided between the lever and a support bracket. The first coil spring urges the pedal arm to return to its initial position before the arm, starting from the initial position, reaches a position at a predetermined rotational angle to the initial position. When the pedal passes the predetermined-angle position, the first spring begins to urge the pedal arm in the direction in which it is being pushed. The second spring is attached to the lever so as to urge the pedal arm only in the direction in which it is being pushed. Therefore, when the pedal arm is pushed past the predetermined-angle position, the repulsive force generated by both the first spring and the second spring then acts as a pedal effort-reduction force.

  • Patent number: 4907478
Abstract: The process for securing a machine tool bed to a base includes the steps of providing a base having a horizontally disposed first surface wherein a plurality of cooperating grooves are disposed. A selected quantity of hardenable grout material is deposited into the grooves. A bed has a second surface from which a plurality of tongues extend, and each tongue has side surfaces which are relatively rougher than the associated distal surface. The bed is horizontally positioned above the base so that each tongue is received in an associated groove and each distal surface is spaced from the associated underlying groove, thereby causing the grout material to rise by an amount insufficient to contact the second surface. The bed is maintained spaced above the base until the grout material has hardened and thereby binds each side surface but not the associated distal surface to the base.

  • Patent number: 4907483
Abstract: A sustainer for providing sustained sounds from a musical instrument has a feedback circuit for converting a pickup signal representing a vibration of a string or other vibratory element to a drive signal and applying drive forces to the vibratory element responsive to the drive signal. The sustainer is arranged to compensate for the phase lag of the pickup signal relative to motion of the vibratory element and to compensate for the phase lag of the drive forces provided by the driver relative to the drive signal. The feedback circuit may be arranged to provide a phase difference between the drive signal and the pickup signal such that the phase difference varies with frequency towards a drive signal leading phase difference with increasing frequency. This phase compensation provides enhanced response of the strings in the fundamental mode of vibration. The driver preferably is arranged so that the drive forces applied to the strings do not vary with lateral movement of the strings.

Abstract: At least two sets of filter coefficients corresponding to different filter characteristics are interpolated by using a control signal for controlling tone color as a parameter of interpolation. Filter coefficients obtained by the interpolation are supplied to a digital filter to determine its filter characteristics and an input tone signal is modified in accordance with the filter characteristics thus determined. Filter characteristics of diverse variation as compared with the number of prepared filter coefficients can thereby be realized. Further, timewise change of filter characteristics can be realized by changing a parameter of interpolation with lapse of time or changing two sets of filter coefficients to be interpolated with lapse of time. Designation of filter coefficients can be made by designating coordinate data of coordinates having at least two axes.

Abstract: A method for the attacking of a target object from an overflying projectile, and wherein the projectile is equipped with a target detector for the activation of its warhead. Moreover, there is disclosed an overflying projectile which is equipped with a downwardly oriented target detector and with a warhead which is activated in dependence upon the target detection for the attacking of the target object. The method contemplates that the projectile be guided into a lower altitude of flight for the scanning of the target area, and upon detection of a target object is pulled up steeply into an ascending path, which has its tail end oriented towards the target object, so as to launch the warhead opposite the direction of flight which is in an ascending trajectory from the tail end of the projectile in a direction towards the target object.

Abstract: A cylindrical silencer tube is fastened to the muzzle of a firearm or cannon. A quasi-parabolic reflector placed in front of the gun muzzle directs the main discharge gas and sound wave flow rearward to a tuned chamber behind the gun muzzle. The deflected sound waves strike the rear of the chamber and are directed back towards the next oncoming half cycle of sound waves. When the two out of phase waves collide at the entrance of the tuned chamber a cancellation of the noise occurs. The second section of the silencer is comprised of a series of chambers and semispherically shaped hollow baffles which direct part of the discharge gas and sound waves in a different and longer path from the main discharge gas and sound waves and then cause them to reunite in a chamber. The two out of phase colliding wave forms cancel each other. The spacing of the semispherical baffles is such that the discharge sound is raised to ultra sound.

Abstract: Apparatus for controlling a vehicle climate control system having pneumatic passages provided with doors or baffles to regulate the flow of conditioned air to the passenger compartment. The passage or passages are selected by positioning a valve that couples a pneumatic source to one or more of the door or baffle operators. The position of the valve is determined by an electric motor that has applied thereto an energizing voltage from a control bridge circuit which also has applied thereto a feedback voltage which changes in response to operation of the motor. Movement of the valve to a selected position causes the feedback voltage to equal the energizing voltage, whereupon the motor is deenergized and movement of the valve terminates.
