  • Patent number: 4910817
Abstract: A fabric web having a high modulus of elasticity is used as a spring element in an upholstered article such as a seat or a bed. The fabric web is joined to a metal rod serving as a frame member of the upholstered article by an end portion of the fabric web, which is folded on itself over the metal rod to provided folded and unfolded layers that are united together by means of a heat-fusible resin film. The heat-fusible resin film is held against the inner surface of the folded end portion of the fabric web and fused by high-frequency welding. The folded end portion of the fabric web is protected by the intermediary film against damage which would otherwise be caused by abrasive contact with a rust layer on the metal rod. The film sandwiched between the folded and unfolded layers has opposite ends folded and fused over the unfolded layer of the fabric web for reinforcing marginal edges of the fabric web.

  • Patent number: 4910838
Abstract: The present invention provides a substantially gauss-shaped sound field by means of an ultrasonic transducer, the potential on one side of the transducer being varied continuously by means of a thick-film electrode applied in a uniform or varying thickness. The thick-film can be a resistance paste or a conductive paste applicable in different thicknesses onto selected portions of the surface in question. The resistance paste can for instance be trimmed to different resistance values on selected portions of the surface. Such a technique makes it possible to alter the distribution of the potential so as to vary the distribution of the pressure in the sound field in such a manner that for instance a substantially gauss-shaped sound field is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4910841
Abstract: An index plate (9) is moiunted on a shaft (7) which is supported against axial displacement on a machine frame (1) and is stepwise rotatably drivable, said plate carrying clamping devices (10) arranged around the shaft and each intended for one workpiece (11). On either side of the indexing plate (9) a unit carrier (20) is arranged axially displaceably of the unit carriers (20) towards the indexing plate (9) into a stop position and for displacement of the unit carriers (20) away from the indexing plate a displacement drive (31) is associated with each of said carriers. The two unit carriers (20) are guided solely on the shaft (7) and are supported on the machine frame (1) only against rotation.

  • Patent number: 4910843
Abstract: A stainless steel roller for conveying a web has a surface prepared by blasting the surface of the roller with steel shot to create on the surface a deep texture with well rounded down features and sharp up features with peaks. The blasted surface is finished with a grinding action for removing the peaks to produce plateaus surrounded by interconnected channels. The interconnected channels of the surface allow air entrained between the roller surface and a web to be vented through the channels while the web is in contact with the roller.

  • Patent number: 4910845
Abstract: A roller, and more particularly a precision transport roller formed of elastomeric material is disclosed. The roller is characterized in that the elastomeric material is formed into inner and outer concentric cylinders which are joined together and which encompass therebetween in co-axial relation a rigid cylindrical bushing. Preferably, the inner and outer cylinders are connected by bridges defined by holes formed in the bushing. The bushing may include beveled end faces for facilitating centering of the bushing in a mold.

  • Patent number: 4910846
Abstract: A cylindrical roller bearing of the kind having a separate abutment ring at the inner bearing ring is used to provide intentional compensation of axial play between a journalled shaft and the surrounding bearing casing in a bearing combination which comprises at least one conical roller bearing in addition to said cylindrical roller bearing. The axial position abutment of the inner ring of the cylindrical roller bearing on the shaft to be journalled is located with an axial spacing from the position abutment surface of the outer ring of said bearing in the casing, which spacing corresponds to the maximum expected axial play which is to be compensated for, and spacing means of required thickness are then mounted between the abutment ring and a locking member on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4910847
Abstract: A cage and roller assembly in a hardened thrust bearing race is restrained within the race by heating a plurality of circumferentially widely separated parts of the race lip to soften the lip parts and bending the softened parts over the cage of the cage and roller assembly. An apparatus for assembling the thrust bearing includes a pair of electrodes located to apply a current through the lip to soften the lip and a form punch which is constructed to bend the softened part of the lip over a cage and roller assembly to an acute angle with respect to the rest of the lip.

  • Patent number: 4910849
Abstract: A spring-loaded device that separates a golf club head and a golf club shaft to which it is adhesively secured. An elongate drive tube means has a distal end that engages a member that abuts the hosel part of the golf club head and a proximal end that carries a compression spring and a nut that compresses the spring when rotated. The proximal end of a golf club shaft is axially received and secured within a shaft engagement member that is disposed at the proximal end of the drive tube member in axial alignment with the drive tube but which is unsecured thereto. Thus, as the nut is rotated, the spring urges the shaft engaging member and the club shaft secured thereto to travel away from the hosel which is held against movement by the member that engages it. Heating the hosel releases the grip of the adhesive and the spring member drives the shaft out of the hosel before the shaft can suffer heat damage.

  • Patent number: 4910851
Abstract: A machine joins edge stiffening means (2), longitudinal and transverse spring wires (6, 6') of a spiral spring cushion (1), e.g. a car seat. A machine table supports the cushion, clamping heads (37) cut off a blank from a strip (38) and bend it around edge stiffening means and wires. A clamping head reciprocating puncher is located outside the cushion and has a cutting edge (48) and a bending die (52) with a groove (47) for receiving the blank, edge stiffening means a wire (6). A dolly part (39) cooperating with the puncher (40) is devised for cutting off a clamping blank and to form a clamp around edge stiffening means and wire (6) when bringing the clamping puncher in contact with the dolly die.
