  • Patent number: 4910957
Abstract: In a staged lean premix low NOx gas turbine combustor, the inside of the combustor is lined with a low density refractory thermal insulator for maintaining the hot face of the lining at or near the flame temperature, i.e., within 200.degree. F. and preferably within 50.degree. F. The heat release value in the first stage is held at a maximum value consistent with low NOx emission while decreasing the heat release value in the second or third stage to achieve a wide range of turndown. The flame temperature in the respective stages are maintained between a low of 1700.degree. F. and a maximum of 2700.degree. F. The flow of compressed air into the combustor is maintained generally uniform over the entire operating range of 5 to 1 turndown.

  • Patent number: 4910958
Abstract: The cooling-air ducting of the axial flow gas turbine runs in the area of the last blading stage (9+14) radially inwards of the heat-accumulation segments (23, 24) inside the outer boundary of the rotor (4) and through blade root channels (21) in the blade roots of the last moving blade ring (9) and finally through a cooling-air blade ring (28) fixed to the rotor into the diffuser into which the cooling-air flow enters with a velocity vector which essentially corresponds to the average velocity vector of the exhaust-gas flow entering into the diffuser. This avoids the flow losses which occur when the cooling-air flow passes out into the exhaust-gas flow in the area of the last stage or stages. At the same time, the temperature difference between the rotor circumference and the last rotor disk (4), likewise cooled by tapped air from the compressor, is in this way reduced, as a result of which the thermal stresses in the rotor are also reduced.

  • Patent number: 4910993
Abstract: A progressive former and method of producing progressive formers is disclosed in which the bed frame is formed of two side frame members and a spacer member. The two side frame members and the spacer member are substantially fully machined before the side frame members are assembled on opposite sides of the spacer member. Within a given machine size, the side frame members are identical and the width of the spacer member is adjusted to provide the proper spacing between the side frame members for the particular number of work stations in a given machine. By utilizing component parts to produce the machine bed frame rather than a one-piece casting, substantial cost savings are achieved. Further, since the side frame members are identical in machines of a given size having different numbers of work stations, it is economically feasible to produce side frame members for inventory and then assemble them with an appropriate spacer member to provide the desired number of work stations.

Abstract: In a drop tester for repeatedly dropping an article from a predetermined height, the article is vertically suspended by a string which is guided through a guide member to a fixed support post. The string is reciprocally pulled by a drive member on a side of the fixed support post to hoist the article to the predetermined height and is thereafter released to drop the article. A detection member is located at the predetermined height to produce a detection signal when the article reaches the predetermined height. The drive member horizontally pulls the string within a predetermined distance with the string brought into contact with a retractable drive pin. The drive pin is retracted when the detection signal is produced by the member to release the string from the drive pin and to thereby drop the article.
